I am painting my blue 87 Gt in about a week or when I finish sanding it. It sat in the sun a lot and killed the clear and baked the black parts. I was looking at my mirrors and trying to decided what would look better, painting them the color of the car or keeping them dull black. What do you guys think. Also what else would you suggest painting the car color that isn't already that color?

I used a rustoleum metalflake available at home depot,,I used it on the mirrors and the rear engine heat grills,, this is a very discreet metalflake it helps the appearence but you are unaware it is metal flake ubtill you look close,,I think a class upgrade much better than gloss or flat black,, I sprayed with a black paint, let dry and then covered with the black metalic.. one can will do 2 mirrors and the 2 grills...

In my opinion black mirrors cheapen the car. On most any car body colored mirrors are considered an upgrade. The Indy was the only Fiero to get body colored mirrors, but it should have been an option.

------------------ All things by immortal power near or far to each other hiddenly linked are. That thou cans't not stir a flower without troubling a star.
I've got one with black mirrors and one with mirrors painted same as car (red) and I do like the look of the painted ones although that car (88) is just a nicer car overall anyway than the other (85).
I've done both Gloss Black and body color. I like the look of both. I think the trick is to make them look as good as the paint on the car. I've seen some very nice paint jobs but they didn't put the same work into the mirrors and it showed.
As far as other parts to repaint - I've redone all gound effects in body color on my gold GT but that was because I didn't like them in gray on the gold. Engine grills, rub strips and T-Top frames are other parts that I've seen in body color. The problem for me is that if you take the mono color thing to far it tends to wash out the lines of the car and makes its blob of mono colored clay. The car needs some type a contrasting color here and there to highlite it's lines.
But like always - in the end it's what you think looks good that counts and not what I or others tell you they think looks good.

Funny that when I bought my 88 Formula new 20 yrs ago that was the first upgrade/mod I did to it. Cost me like $100 and I was so happy to pay them Black mirrors are a distraction to the lines of the car unless the car is black of course. The lighter the body color the worst. But that is just my opinion.
I vote for body colour....I'm painting my 88 this weekend...Mirrors, trim and ground effects will be white. I am not a fan of the rear grills painted to match so they will get a low gloss black.

Fellas, Count me in as one who approves of the black mirrors, as the Fiero came with, when it was born. Maybe I just like the contrast of silver and black (Oakland Raiders?) on my '85 SE. As a matter of fact, I just painted them black SEM last week.
Cordially, Kevin

I've been thinkin about the same thing. Is the car staying blue? Personally I like the side trim and engine grates left black. I haven't seen many cars with painted mirrors and black trim, aside from Eriks. Which actually looks pretty good. Be nice to see more pics of that.

Paint them!! I painted mine white to match the body, we also painted the gasket white too, just have to put some of that flex additive on it before you paint.

I had mine powder coated (hold up much better than paint) satin black. Not too shiney but not flat either. I prefer them black. It gives the car some contrasting. It matches up with the quarter glass windows and the side moldings. It also blends in nice with tinted windows.
I recently had some noticeable parking lot damage done to the passenger's-side mirror housing of my Fiero, and I was going to keep the replacements the stock black color.
However, inspired by seeing this thread, I figured this was an ideal time to change to body-colored (in this case, bright red) mirror housings, although I kept their gasket bases the stock black. Now these newly painted, bright red, body-colored mirror housings look better than the standard black did, IMHO. More specifically, they seem to add a nicer, more "upscale" appearance to the car, similar to what jscott1 had alluded to:

I realize that body-colored mirror housings aren't everyone's preference, but nonetheless, thanks to all who have weighed in with their opinions on this topic because prior to reading this thread, I just hadn't given this topic any thought, and now I'm glad I did.
