That "lake" formed right after the storm and had about 20 feet of water in it, it's mostly dissipated by now. Maybe I can claim the storm deposited all these broken down Fieros in my back yard? I'm trying to get rid of them.

What ya got that has a tan insides and is an automatic transmission?

This is the first chance I've had to get on the forum to check on you other Southeast Texas guys. We went to Lufkin, which was hit pretty hard by wind & rain, but not too much flooding. Of course, power is off in the whole region and very little gas was available. We decided to leave (we have my 80 year old mother-in-law) and go to my daughter's house in Dallas where things are almost normal. I heard from from my brother yesterday, who was in the Golden Triangle area, that my house made it through with only wind damage: no flooding in my neighborhood. Other than some scratches from flying stuff, the Fiero was not damaged. He said my area might get power back by Sept 22 or 23, though there is no food and very little gas available.
I know there are several other Fiero owners in Beaumont and Port Arthur that have not posted to this thread and I hope it is just because they don't have power or internet. I know that a few miles to the east of my house, whole towns, such as Bridge City and Orange (where some big plants like DuPont, Chevron, Firestone, etc) were all under 3 to 8 feet of water. Dcfox is to my west about 8 miles and he had high water also. We just getting back to normal from Rita, so it will probably several years before we recover from this!

We just got home. Power was restored about 10pm last evening. Lots of clean up to do in the yard. Take care all

Don't know how many people will want to look at these pics of the damage, but here are a few. Most are from the Galvaston area. What a mess. I feel so sorry for those folks that have lost so much.

Wow! Those are pretty nice. I have new respect for the power of a hurricane. It was much worse than I expected. I think the Saffir-Simpson scale needs revision. I was expecting the power of a Cat 2 but Ike packed the punch of a Cat 4 when you consider trees blown down hundreds of miles inland.

I never expected the Woodlands, and Spring to be so heavily effected. Those folks were ridiculed for evacuating during Rita, so many stayed put only to see their roofs blown off. Next time I'm leaving no matter what.

What I don't understand is, why a few people left their planes and boats behind?

I know right?... some of those boats are worth more than houses!...

If I owned one of those... I'd be like:
"Honey... time to take the boat on vacation to (insert port of call that has no hurricane looming)"

My friend is a pilot, he said that in Florida, many insurance companies will pay pilots (owners) gas money to fly their plane out the way of imminent destruction. I think it is still the owners decision... but a penny of prevention is worth... well, a lot.

Cause they have insurance and know they can get new ones from it.

The same is true of generators.. at least for me. My insurance company reimbursed me for a generator I bought a few years ago in preparation for a hurricaine that never really landed here.

I have heard that FEMA will reimburse you for a generator, if you also have home damage or other reasons to file a claim.

In Texas you are lucky if you can even buy insurance. No companies will write windstorm policies so we are forced to buy it from the State. It was intended to be the insurance of last resort, now imagine 20 million people getting their insurance from the State of Texas. You can just imagine how well run that system must be.

"If it ain't broke then why fix it"- I guess those rich guys (or those who know how-to work the system) have ways of getting a new boat, especially if FEMA is involved. However, I'm sure their insurance will increase.

So Jonathan... how did NASA fair? Are the big exhibits still intact?

Are most of the gas stations back in service?... or do you have long lines at only a few open stores?

How much of your stash do you burn up?

You doing OK?... Jon Michael? Has school started back up?

Sorry to inquisition... I've got Houston on my mind...

Overall NASA did okay. Although damage ocurred about the same as every other house in town...there was roof damage, some minor water leaks and not so sturdy structures were destroyed. Like the super guppy hanger just disappeared.

I would say 80% of gas stations are open so that's not the concern this week...the problem now is that 50% of traffic lights don't work, and now that people are hitting the roads again, traffic is a nightmare. It takes twice as long to get anywhere, and it wasn't exactly cruising before.

My son is supposed to start school tomorrow. Between buying a generator and my trip to Austin I don't know that I can swing another trip. Unless I get a FEMA debit card things are going to be tight this month.
