may i offer one suggestion, since the date is rapidly approaching and other events have done it. why not push the date back a week to the 18th, it would give a few more days to plan and for things to get back to semi-normal. plus i might be able to attend. to me the 2nd saturday in October is reserve for the big game either by me going to it or watching it on TV. just my lousy .02
edit: i got pg 2. notice on the map if Lufkin is still in the running that Sam Rayburn reservoir is close by and a little east is Toledo Bend reservoir. i'm sure there are thing to do around there if they didn't get flooded out.

That would really help me out as well, not that I am important.
Just a suggestion to keep in the back of minds. JScott did a lot of work and planning for the Galveston thing. Let's reserve next year for that location if at all possible--(assuming Jonathon still wants it)
How does the weekend of the 18th work for everyone else? Jed and I can do that just as well, Daniel says it's better paycheck-wise for him, but it might be a sale weekend (which he cannot take off). Blake, Stephen... I know yall have to ask off in advance, would moving it one week be a problem? Everyone else?

Dunno--have you DFW--North Tex folks chosen the location yet? I have been told within the last hour, that Livingston now has electricity--but gas is still in very short supply.

That almost sounds like I will be able to attend! I haven't heard back from the people ordering my tickets, but this would increase my chances from "no chance" to "maybe."
Okay, so Blake and anyone else who planned on attending will the weekend of the 18th work for you? Looks like we've got alot of people who it will, but I don't want to leave anyone out.
Also, are we thinking Lufkin is the place? If so, Blake, did you want to go out there someday for a planning excursion? If so, let me know, if not let's start a list to delegate planning responsibilities.
Let's get all the details set in stone ASAP.

I just got my day off changed from the 10th to the 17th... sorry for the delay, but I could not say 'yay or nay' until the vacation gods speak... and they have to get sacrifices and prayers for 48 hours to ponder any requests.
Let's say with 2/3 certainty, vote 'yes' for Lufkin, and 'yes' for change. Wait, I've been listening to politics too much.
Any interested parties up for a scouting trip after the normal monthly meeting?

Due to popular demand... weekend is now October 17-19. (editted first post)
**note** this is breaking Ruckus tradition which has held that the host picks the October weekend. For some reason the host has always picked the weekend prior (around Columbus Day), but this is an extenuating circumstance.
Tom, you're right... about 3 hours. We'd probably overnight. Camping anyone? C'mon!... we'll call it a pre-Ruckus. Y'all don't leave me in a lurch now... you do and I'll play give up and this thing will get held on the median between Loop 410 and I-20.

Have you checked the room availability in Lufkin yet? Anywhere in or around the SA and Austin area all the rooms are in very short supply due to remaining requirements. Just a thought. Sorry I have been in the shadows, but I have been doing 60 to 70 hour weeks at work. The payoff you ask? Whenever the event is, I should be able to make it as I have been booking the favors at work!

Blake, thanks again for making an executive decision. It will be a long time before the Houston area is anything approaching normal. My DSL is still down, I had to throw away everything in my refrigerator, and most stores and restaurants are still closed. I don't forsee making Ruckus 7 but maybe the third time will be the charm with having R8 in Galveston. You all have fun for the ones who can't be there.
Sounds good to me on all fronts, I can do a scouting trip in the morning (not too early though ) but not overnight. Maybe meet up at 10am somewhere on the road to Lufkin, get there by 1-2pm, spend til 6 or 7 looking, then be back by 9-10pm?
Or we could totally wing the whole thing... pick a hotel at random, show up, and go from there! Okay, yall probably don't want to do it that way (although it should appeal to everyone's sense of adventure).
Blake, let me know what you need me to do and I'll be on it.

Blake, Lufkin is just about 65 miles north of me. I can meet you there somewhere, If I am back home by then. I went home yesterday to check on my home. TDPS says 30 days till we get power back. I hope Lufkin is up and running by then. There is a Ralph and Cacoon's there , (from New Orleneas) real good food. On Hwy 59 south.

not to but in, but i live about 60 miles from lufkin and was just there yesterday, most businesses have power (in fact, i didnt see any without power). I lived there for 7 years from 01 to 07 so if i can help with any thing let me know. i can tell you that as far as sam rayburn goes there are activities. YOU CAN SWIM OR YOU CAN FISH. i live in pineland tx which is between sam rayburn and toledo bend. this is not a water sports type communitty, even though boating activitys (tubing, skiing, kneeboarding) are aloud. this is a retirement community. i dont know of any buisinesses other than bait shops that make a living because of the lakes. dont get me wrong im glad that it is coming to lufkin, i can actually go, but the best things to do will be found in lufkin and naccogdoches, not in their surroundings.
chris but cruising aroung there should be fun

FWIW you guys, AFAIK the 24 hours of Lemons is still going on south of Houston that same weekend. Test and Tune at the track Friday, racing Sat & Sunday. We plan to bring the Mighty Toyota Supra down to see if it can make the whole race this time (instead of snapping a rod bolt with 17 minutes left like it did in California). I'm going to drive a stint or two and that alone should be worth a chuckle or two.
No Fiero there for me this time, and I won't be able to leave the track to speak of, but anyone that wants to stop on by is welcome and root us on to ??Victory?? (Failing that, survival)
'87. 7MGE Engine, non turbo, DOHC inline 6 with a 5 speed. Mostly stock. Mildly ported. Naturally aspirated. In the Thunderhill race the engine went 13 minutes short of the 17 hour race and broke a rod bolt. I'm putting it together this weekend with ARP rod bolts this time.

yes... this is a good point Don... R8 or R9 is up for grabs, and first right of refusal will go to JScott/LSF. I don't know if Galveston will recover in time for R8... but his efforts will not go to waste. Many of us were looking forward to a Galveston event... but like many of us 'regulars' feel... it is not so much the setting, but the people. That's why I know that even with short notice, Lufkin is going to work out.
BTW, thanks very much to Josef and Maryjane for driving up this past Sunday to help with planning. We were able to scout out an eating establishment or 2, and after many visits with many hotel managers, we were able to find a hotel that had a lot going for it.
As for future Ruckus locations... ( I / NTFC ) are calling dibs on Ruckus 10. And R16 has also been called. We ought to go someplace really cold for R12. Get it? R12... cold... freon?... get it? Maybe somewhere on the Frio River?... or the Canadain? Maybe in Winters, Coldspring, Chillicothe, or Frost? or not...

Just my luck, . Be careful what you ask for, . My week on/off, just got swapped. Oilwell, if it can happen, it can happen again, .
My week getting swapped, was a con job to get me in on my days off, . Oilwell, if it can happen, it won't happen again, . But, I am a week behind schedule in my off time, with things to do which need to get done. One is look for another job, so I can tell 'em to shove this one. Jobs can be had in the Houston area so, I still have hopes to make it.

Best of luck with your race John. I had the first year Supra, a 79. Back then, I preferred my old 77 Celica GT better.
