people still use corvette forum? I thought they all bailed to digital corvettes. Anyway, not too surprising to see prototypes being auctioned given GMs financial state.

Earlier I was wishing GM would sell the prototypes versus crushing. But these collectible cars I'm not happy they are being sold... They might never been seen again.
What do you think the 2+2 and the convertible goes for? I'm thinking at least 6 figures each.

So what's going to happen with the Heritage Center?
Rumor has it that it is going to go by by.... This was brought up at our last meeting it is a cost GM can cut to save money. I think that is why GM is putting the prototypes up for sale on that list I think most of those cars are sitting in warehouses in Detriot somewhere. We where told that at no point in time will all the prototypes be at one place at one time. The 20th was the last show where all 9 where together. sad story.

I have been considering buying another 88 gt...yellow one...but i must admit...I am seriously considering the 2+2. I will be calling Barret tomorrow to check into the details of bidding. I can't save more than one of these cars for us but I want that car to be available to all of us so we can see our heritage and what could have been. It should be at all functions and not just hidden away. I'll see what I can do but I have a feeling the bidding on this may exceed my limit. We'll see.

You mean the 25th, don't you? There were all nine cars at the 25th anniversary. We got a lot of pictures, but it still doesn't feel like we got enough.

Although no one posting the links would say the obvious, (and Before anybody wastes their time like i just did), BJ does not have pics of the fieros posted. By the way, if you try to SEARCH, make sure you adjust the day from TUESDAY (default) to ALL DAYS.

I am sure he meant the 25th, as all of them were there.
This is a sad day. I am so glad we were able to get all the cars at the 25th and that so many people were able to see them and enjoy them. IMO, some took these cars for granted, as they were shown numerous times from 2003 - 2008.
And yes the Huffaker is the Goodwrench Fiero.

Actually the Prototypes were highly regarded as being cool looking. But something happened and screwed up the production model. I guess I've gotten used to them as they don't look as bad to me as they used to.
This is sad that we will probably never again see all the Fiero Prototypes in one place ever again. Let's at least hope they go to a good home.

You can see the cars here and Fred driving the Goodwrench car. be sure to click "watch in high quality" underneith the video so you can see it clearer. Rick B
Fred has to do like I do,, make up the excuse that it is for her and how it will be so great when they can drive together showing off. Mentioned the looks all the guys will give her when she is out driving in that car. Good luck Fred. Rick B
I cant believe that the 25'th is going to be the last moment in history these will be together. I'm glad we got Fred's Pauls, and Rick's cars together with the others for what has turned out to be an absolute once in a lifetime photo opportunity. Plus Fred let me ride in the Convertable that last day.
If the Turbo prototypes comes up for sale, I really hope the new owners will let us carefully take it apart and document it. I want to read and go through it's Chip and see what ECM it is (I'm betting it's not the 85ECM with buick knock sensor) as well as document all details of the turbo build and install possibly spash a mold off the trunk lid.

Fred, are you going to take donations to help you with any of the purchases? If we get enough people, maybe a car or two could be purchased... Who's in?

Options of either posting 10% of your requested bid limit before the auction, or supplying a letter of guarantee from a particular bank to the effect of having a certain dollar amount available towards purchase. If a letter of guarantee the minimum bid limit is $30,000 so I *assume* that is the minimum you must have in cash in that account at the time of registration... I never went that avenue myself but you never know.
If/When you do register to bid, your registration is good for passes for you and (1) guest to all 8 days - yes, the day before the auctions start there is a bidders preview day and a gala event. So, if making the trip, plan for (1) day BEFORE the auction starts...
EDIT:
The $500 is for the scottsdale events, which this auction will be located there. Palm Springs is only $250...

I purchaced a car at the ACD Festival in Auburn, IN back in 2000. That sounds about right. I had to take them a check for the FULL amount I was good for they confirmed it was good with the bank and then gave me a number to use for bidding. There is also a % fee on top of the sale price. IF your limit is $10,000 then you had better only bid about $9,500.
Unfortunately count me out of this bidding. Too rich for my blood.

BJ does a 10% Buyer's Premium, above and beyond what the car sells for.... of course, the seller chips in 15% as well so you can see where they make nice coin on each car that hits reserve

Not sure if it's true, but Speed Channel's coverage of Barett-Jackson repeatedly state that the auction is 100% no reserve. Either way, they're making a fine profit from their event.

All of us seem diappointed that these vehicles are about to be lost into the system. Why don't we do something about it? My thought is that if each of us ponys up 100 dollars we should be able to float enough coin to buy every Fiero prototype (unless a very rich person with unlimited funds comes out of the woodwork). I have a six car garage and could store 2 examples but from there I would need help on the storage. I am going to attempt to get the silver 2+2 already but help on the others is always going to be a great thing.

Tim & I were just talking about this.....we should make sure that these go to a home that will be loved and will be shown in public Fiero events. So we think we should all donate to: Fred's Fiero Museum and Imporeum!! Think about if Fred, you could charge us a minimal fee to help with expenses when we come visit you in Iowa. Maybe you could get the Fiero Store to help sponsor you and sell their products in your museum store. Sounds like a good side business. Hell, Tim & I could move to Iowa and help man the store for you. Tim could get the website up and take care of security, install cameras and alarms. I could help in the store and keep the books for the museum and store. I have worked retail before. Tim would get approval from all the engineers and set up the Automatronic Hall of Engineers, like at Disney. Even one of you greeting people to : Fieroland or Fieroworld or Fred's Fiero Musuem
Think about it Fred, PM me if you like the idea.

I can take a look, the problem was I had to un-mount my stabilizer to not damage the car, and the footage from in the car was incredibly shakey and what I considered unusable.
I will go through it and see if it's not too bad for personal viewing. When I get time I can look at putting together another DVD, I currently have 3 TV episodes I need to edit for airing in the spring as well as a couple of tv commercials I need to come up with for a customer.

This proposal is humbling and very appealing to me. It is a back of the mind dream that I get when I am around the prototype cars. But, as the old saying goes; Money talks and the ........ walks. I am playing the lottery though. Believe me, when I heard about this, I was on the bandwagon to find out the details of buying a car. Bottom line, I do not have the financial capability right now to buy another prototype car. These cars are again subject to the agreement that they can not be titled, registered or operated on public roads, so that will take alot of the buying public out of interest. As cool as it would be to own any of the three being offered, I do not see it happening on my end.
The bidder requirements are pretty stiff even to bid on a car. It looks like about 10 grand will allow you to meet the reqirements to bid. Here is a cut and paste portion of the bidder registration form. The absentee bid registraion is even worse.

It would be really neat if the Fiero Commuity would pool together to buy the cars, but knowing the Fiero Community, we would not be able to collect enough capital to even come close to any of the hammer prices. The logistics of it all would be a nightmare. Going out on a limb, I predict it would cost about $100,000 to bring the three cars home. Hypothetically in theoretical situation with all the planets aligned, that comes out to 1000 people commiting $100 or 100 people commiting $1000. From my experience from being involved in selling custom Fiero parts, stainless keychains, selling raffle tickets for a Fiero, attendance to the 25th Anniversary Event, I do not see the dedication of the Fiero Community to pool together enough capital to buy these cars.
I have been in contact with several people who I feel would be able to buy one of the cars and I get the same story. With the economy like it is most of these people are strapped for finances also. I even contacted John Callies to talk him in to buying the Huffaker car. To quote," It would be a neat little car to have, but what the He$$ would I do with it?"
We will see what happens. I hope to see the cars go to a safe home.
Fred

Perhaps a letter could be written to someone like Jay Leno to convince him to purchase them, where we know the cars would be taken care of?
Edit: at the very least, send someone to the auction to talk to the winners of the auction? Tell them about the site and it would be extremely appreciated if they could in touch with the community?

Yeah, get Jay Leno to buy them. He's the guy who crushes Fieros on The Tonight Show for a laugh.
