He is speaking the truth.
I was so busy I missed a great deal of the show, however my one highlight of the event was helping Tim do the intimate filming of the Prototypes. I was able to spend about 45 mins - 1 hour with them, Opening the doors, hoods, decklids, and drooling the entire time while Tim filmed them. Made my day, in fact the remainder of the day was a blur until the banquet.

I know... I had to photoshop pools of drool out of several of the photos. by the time we were done shooting the 89/90 prototype the car looks like someone just washed it.

I'm watching Barret Jackson auction on speedtv right now. The GM heritage collection cars are getting some play, but NOT the Fieros (so far). The prices for the 70's muscle cars seem low......1969 numbers matching GTO Judge with documentation for 33K. The Popemobile we saw at the 25th is on the block NOW!...gotta go seeya later

It is to be the first one available to the public.
They might put a 01 number on it but it will not really #1.
You have pilot cars usally around 50. They are already being built as we type. They should be tested run hard used as mules then crushed except for the first one GM may keep.
THe first public one is still a good one to keep as no matter what other ones they do it will still be the first public one.
The first public ZR-1 went to a collector for a million. It is a special Blue and all. The question I have is Jay Leno has a gray 00001 ZR-1 he got from GM. IT may be the real very first one and I wonder what the guy who bought the other one will thinks now?
I am betting Vette team hid this car in Jays collection so it would be safe as they have a good working relationship.
I was in Bowling Green the day that car (000001) rolled off the line. It was gray. And as a supplier I got to touch it. I stood around with my GM friends and watched it during the last 1.5 hours of its assembly line life, then heard it start up for the first time and then saw it drive throught the test chamber. My counter part (female) was offered the first ride in it ( through the test chamber). I had to explain to her what had just happened. That happend back around June and we are still talking about it.

Also... 000001 is not the REAL first ZR1 to be build on the assembly line. They always build test vehicles. IVER, NS1, NS2, and then usually they move to S1 (saleable 1). S1 is where 000001 was built. NS build cars are usualy used as mules and for other testing. The have an "EX" number at the end of a unique VIN number. Also these cars are often used for display.

I still like to know how they explain to the guy who paid a Million for the blue first ZR-1 to the public when the 00001 Gray one went to Jay Leno. I am betting that guy is not happy that Jay got a ZR1 built before his.
If GM had kept it I could understand but for them to give it to Jay kind of short changed the BJ winner.
But that is his problem.
I saw the gray one on Jays web site I think he really likes it.

Tonight's the night where many of GM's Heritage Center cars will wave goodbye and meet their new owners for the very first time.
We reported last month that GM would be auctioning off a large chunk of its Heritage Center collection at the Barrett-Jackson auctions in Scottsdale, Arizona. For those of you not keeping track, tonight at 7pm EST the Speed Channel will be broadcasting live this significant and historical auction. The Heritage Center collection will be auctioned off throughout the week ending on the Sunday, the 18th. Though not all of the vehicles will be auctioned this week. GM will be sending the remainder of the Heritage Center collection to Barrett-Jackson’s Palm Beach, Florida auction in April.
A sign of the Carpocalypse, yes, but there are over 1,000 vehicles at the Heritage and GM periodically auctions off duplicates or little used vehicles in order to sharpen the focus of the collection. A vast majority of the cars that’ll be auctioned were created for SEMA or were demonstration cars from various shows and no longer serve a purpose in the collection.
The Speed Channel broadcast schedule for the Barrett-Jackson auction is below along with the list of cars to be auctioned.
Tuesday Jan 13, 2009 7:00PM EST Wednesday Jan 14, 2009 12:00AM EST & 7:00PM EST Thursday Jan 15, 2009 12:00AM EST & 7:00PM EST Friday Jan 16, 2009 12:00AM EST & 2:00PM EST Saturday Jan 17, 2009 2:00PM EST Sunday Jan 18, 2009 2:00PM EST

They could have said that it was the first one available to the public. That would be legit. It was a very odd sounding car. It sounded like a SBC reving at the same time as a Porsche Carrea GT with the sounds overlapping.

No bs- I have been a long time fiero fan and I had a doctor that was out there bid it up to 15k which was my limit. It went for 16 plus fees. I sure hope a true fiero fan got it and will display it for others to see. I first saw it outside the fiero factory sometime around 1997. If anyone knows who bought it I would like to know. I believe the winner was there. If any one could post a recording of the sale on youtube I would much appreciate it. The convertable will be selling shortly.

The Convertible went for $9900. What's funny is the 2+2 has a scrap title and therefore could be registered for the street. And yet the convertible has an incomplete vin and can not.

That depends. Is the VIN actually incomplete, or just vin'ed as an incomplete. For instance my 90 Grand Prix Turbo has the 3rd digit as a 5 which is identified as an incomplete car. Later to be finished by McLaren for Turbo, Intercooler, etc.
I'd like to see the VIN.

Geez... they went cheap. Oh well. If I bought one, I would have just went through the process of registering it as a home built car. There has to be a way to get it on the road legally. Just because it doesn't have a VIN doesn't mean you can get it registered.

It wasn't just the fact that these possible by some devious way might be able to be registered that drove my decision to withdrawl my bids. I honestly didn't think I would have a shot in hell at 30k but the combo went for less than that! It was more the fact that in one of the other threads either one of the builders or someone involved in the 2+2 build process said it would be very unsafe to drive and that they wouldn't drive it. That had a strong influence on me. Oh well...hindsght is always 20/20 or better. We just need to find out who has them all.
