So, why do Fiero's have 2m4 on their rear? What does this mix of letters and numbers mean exactly? Is it something arbitrarily assigned to it, or does it actually translate into something?[/curious]

Thanks.

Twlight,

It stands for something: 2--seat car
M---mid engined
4--four cylinder or '6' if there is a six cylinder in there

Cordially,
Kevin

But why is my car have both 2M6 AND SE on it? (86)

Edit: Oh wait. I just found the answer. Its because you could get both the 2.5 and 2.8 in an SE. Ok :P

Because unlike the other badges, the SE was made in both the I4 & V6 configurations. So your car is an SE, V6 version. All base versions were I4, and all GTs were V6... See where I'm going with it?

Why doesn't my 88 Duke have 2M4 on it? Is it not a 2 seater? Is it not mid-engined? Does it not have a 4cyl engine?

I've been robbed.

But GT means Grand Touring, so it sounds better then 2M4.

Pontiac dropped the 2M4 and 2M6 after the 1986 model year.

As far as a GT not having a 2M6 on it, the 1985 GT is the only one with a decklid decal that said simply "Fiero GT". The fastback GT model (1986 - 1988) had no decklid decal at all.

They didn't come stock with "2M4" on them in '87 or '88. Doesn't mean a previous owner didn't put one on though...assuming you're not the original owner, in which case you have an odd car!

Thank goodness! I was starting to wonder if anyone would back me up on that.
