I think a repost every now and again is a good thing.. what good is a thread thats been archived? The chances of coming across the original thread without specifically looking for it isn't very good. Anywho, thats quite an amazing build. I wish i had the skills to do that, my concern is mostly, how would you keep both sides perfectly even while carving the foam.. Mine would look wonky lol
Very very nice job. It looks great! Any more details about it? I am guessing that the blocks are foam, but how did the shape get cut so accurately? Fiberglass thickness taken into account?

Thank you for sharing.
I believe it was all shaped & smoothed on the spot by hand. Symmetry is done with a large assortment of measurement tools, profile gauges, sweeps, & templates. It may not be computer perfect, but as close as the eye can see. The foam is undersized, by maybe 1/8", to allow for subsequent fiberglass layup thickness.

I believe it was a one-off project; didn't see any tooling being made in the photos. The bodyman had excellent skill & a sharp eye. Good enough to paint it black.

Where would be the best place to buy bulk fiberglass cloth for a project like this? Cost?
Fiberglast.com is an online supplier in the USA, don't know if there are restrictions for resins to CAN. however. Also, check your local phone directory for starters; automotive/boating/aerospace. There should be distributors in every metropolitan area. Also, any Corvette specialty shop should know about fiberglass suppliers.

That is flipin sweet. I tinker with fiberglass a little bit. sub boxes are my specialty. i have build door panels and thats about it. Right now im makeing a body kit for my bmw. ill let you know how that turns out. Then after that im thinking about trying my hands on a full body.
I can cut and shape foam for the kit on the bimmer (but hey who cant cut foam lol) it is a trail and error process but for the most part i think anyone can do it. Its not beyond anyones scope!!

If I remember correctly, the builder made heavy use of templates and hot-wire cutting implements, in order to achieve the symmetry and smooth curves. The shape was made of foam, then covered in fiberglass. After the fiberglass cured, the foam was dug out, leaving the fiberglass shell.
With that construction process, there are no molds. Making another copy would require starting over from scratch, or pulling molds from the existing body. So I don't think Ferrari would have grounds for a lawsuit.
The Ferrari kit is ok. But better tell me more about this great looking minivan.
In the first post I was like, Is this in Japan? Before anyone confirmed it because of those mini vans lol. When I lived in Japan You would see those pimped out vans almost everyday rolling around.
