I will take a BBS and I would like it to say Arrow. If someone out there wants the 1st coin we had done I would be willing to swap one to you for the second coin. Thanks, Chris

cornersonrails, I got the color deck today and I really appreciate it. It will be very valuable when it comes time to choose colors.
Btw, does anyone in the Des Moines area have a blue Fiero with stock paint color? I would like to color match it.
Sorry that I have been away since yesterday afternoon. The last couple of days at work have been challenging and frustrating but they are done now so I will be able to check this more often over the next couple of days.
The list has been updated. Please take a moment to verify the accuracy of your request. Let me know if you need any changes.
67 coins currently. We will stop taking requests somewhere around 100 - 110 coins so that we can place our order and begin manufacturing. If you want in on the order don't wait. I don't know when we will do another run but it won't likely happen for a while. At the rate we are going the deadline will be coming up very soon.

either is fine. maybe later I will find someone with the other, and trade for that. I have 5 of the first runs, and I want to keep 2 of them, the other 3 are for trading.

It is good to see that the reorder qty is moving up. I would like to let you know that white on coins doesn't look very good and I would highly recommend you choose anther background color other than white. If you are paying for the most expensive metal finish in the shiny gold toned it would be a waste to cover up the majority of the coin with color especially one that would wash out the coin. Bright/bold colors like navy blue, green, orange, red or purple would all be better than the white.
I will not put out a product that I have been told won't look good. Kelly makes these coins for a living and I trust her. I sent an email back asking what the default surface is under the painted areas. If I am not mistaken it is smooth.
After thinking about it, the coin would probably look better if we deleted the white all together and let the artwork, and shiny gold finish stand on their own. Since our coin will be coated in epoxy on both sides it should look great. Right now I am planning to delete the white color, and the blue checkers in the flags. The engraving letters / numbers will also not be painted on the BG coin.
If you do not already own a geocoin it will be hard to imagine what the final product would look like in person but this may help.
If this new color scheme does not work for you let me know as soon as possible. You have time to change your order.
Sorry for the late changes. The good news is that we have only had one this time.

Thanks Danyel. I appreciate your confidence. I think this might turn out to be the coin of choice after these changes.
They did not use a non-shiny gold base coin in this photo, they used an antique brass in this photo but here is a link to coin that looks similar in coloration to what ours would have looked like.
I agree after seeing that example-- the white is not the best. Would it be possible to still have another color (such as the blue) on the checkers? Just a thought, but I am still in it for all three of those coins, no matter the final appearance. I trust your judgement after how beautiful the first run was.
Edited for grammar.

I don't know, I thought the white set off the artwork better
To me, it looks like the artwork gets losts in the same gold color backround. Kind of like looking at a Quarter.

I have to agree with CoolBlue. Having the whole face of the coin in Gold is going to be just like looking at any other coin. The white sets off a background that will make the Gold stand out instead of blend in.
Also, the flags need to be 2 colors no matter what. White/Blue White/Black White/Red... something. Checkered flags shoud be just that "Checkered".

Here are some options. I can make more if there is something else that you would like to see. I like the last one on the list but I will go with whatever you all agree upon. I just can't go with a white coin after being told that they look like $%^&*.
Origional Idea
[This message has been edited by RACE (edited 06-03-2009).]
We could go against the recommendations of the manufacturer and continue with the original front side of the gold coin. My Fiero keychain is white with gold and it looks OK but I no longer think that it would pop like the 1st Edition coin or the BBS coin.
We could scrap the gold coin and just do the BBS coin or we could take a second coin in an entirely different direction. Most people who orded the BBW coin have also ordered a BWG coin so blue is pretty well covered.
We will not take any more orders for the gold coin until we get this sorted out.

I think she just is wrong about this coin. The example shown in the link, does not have any raised art work. Yeah, looks kind of ho-hum.
The Gold coin with white and the raised image would look better than that example, as there would be a contrast bordering the image.
Take a look at the 1st generation coin, the silver over the black is stunning, its just great. Now , look at that coin, imagine it with out the black paint. It would be way to much sliver, you wouldn't see the raised image as good.
The option of the gold with out any color would be the same, to much gold.
Can you ask if there is a way for them to produce 1 sample to judge by ? It would probably to expensive.

A prototype coin is available but I believe that it would cost around $30. It would take a while to produce and ship as well. Even after I got it I am sure that a photo would not do it justice.
Edited:
I could order one if somebody wanted to pay for it. (I don't need it all that bad since the BBS coin is so good). I would ship it to you after reviewing it. It may or may not be available with engraved on it but I could check on that.
If we chose not to use it you would have the most rare Fiero geocoin ever made. If we did use it I would add the price of the prototype to the total price of all GOLD coins only so that you could get your money back beyond the normal price of the coin, (minus whatever paypal would charge us).
I will do whatever you all want. It you want it to be baby poop orange we can do that too.

The 1st gen was just perfect. Thanks for being open to ideas, I know this is your product, you want to be proud of it.

CoolBlue87GT, I edited the previous post while you were replying. You have dibbs if the manufacturer still has a prototype program. Let me know. I will check tomorrow if you are in.
This is our product and I want all of us to be proud of it.

This way we can tell if it looks good to us.

I am having a hard time with this one. We all agreed upon the BWG coin then the manufacturer warned us that it would not look good so it will still be available. I'm still going to buy one.
We are going to proceed as planned with the BBS coin and the BWG coin. If you still want the BWG coin even after the manufacturer said that white doesn't look good on coins that is your choice. If you want out of the BWG coin let me know.
[This message has been edited by RACE (edited 06-03-2009).]
I'm still in on the the BWG coins. If we change our minds on this coin again, put me next in line after coolblue87GT for the $30 charge for a sample. If we continue on with something different , then you can still count on my order.
If we had to change coins..then this would be the one I liked the best:
thanks. John

We are so close to 100 we will continue as planned. If you all don't like the BWG coin when it arrives just know that I warned you. If you are not sure that you will like the BWG coin change your order to the BBS coin.
The writing in the ring will be gold since the letters are metal. The engraving plate is also gold metal and there will be a gold metal ring inside of the blue ring. Blue or black checkers? You decide.
This is a group buy and we have to agree as a group. If everybody chose what they wanted there could be 150 different coins and that is too much work for me and the manufacturer. I have a wife and two kids who have to compete for my time when I am not away working. Until you have done a project like this you have no idea what a time commitment it can be just packaging everything. Last time with only one coin type it took nearly 20 hours to organize and package everybody's orders.
Please know that this is not a rant. I apologize if you have taken it that way but I have to keep balance in my life. I think this project is really great and I am happy to lead it.
Next time
How we order these coins is going to change. I will offer custom everything (using the current dies) but the group will consist of only 5 people, 10 coins each. Each person will get to choose whatever they want their coin to look like and each person will get two coin options. (Go in with a buddy if you want). If I keep the groups small and limit the quantity, the complexity diminishes to a large degree. The chance for errors in production also decreases.
Small groups can work faster. If you are interested in participating in the next time, decide what you want your coins to look like right now so that the process of taking orders can take one day next time. Also have $90 into your Paypal account. It won't take all of that, especially if you choose less expensive metals.
If I had done it this way for this order our coins would be nearly done by now.
Tomorrow I am going on a Fiero road trip with my wife to northern MO. where there are actually some curves. (I think that there is a law here in Iowa that says roads must be flat and straight). I will update the list tomorrow night after I get home.
Pricing update
Use this chart to begin, then add the cost of the options that we have chosen to determine the price of your coin using current metal prices. (All coins will have 2 sided epoxy coating. It has a higher-end look, and be more durable).
Add $2.93 for epoxy on both sides, engraving, and paypal fees to the price of each coin.
BBW coin before shipping $6.18 - (Using current prices from the manufacturer, subject to change) BWG coin before shipping $6.53 - (Using current prices from the manufacturer, subject to change)
After you have determined the price of the coin add $4 for actual shipping + $0.80 for the padded shipping envelope.
The last coin cost 8.28 per coin. This time we do not have to pay the fees to have dies made. Our last coin was shiny nickel. The BBS coin will be as well. Kelly says that real silver tarnishes and won't look good over time, and it is more expensive.

Please take a moment to look at Page 1, Post 1. We are offering a Black Blue / Silver coin and a Blue White / Gold coin to choose from. The BBS coin has been very popular this time. Let me know which one you would like. I am going to bed right now but I will add you to the list in the morning.

I know this has been a large project. All of us appreciate your efforts.
This is a fantastic product you've created. You can be very proud of yourself.
I've changed my order slightly, same number of coins, want to get a few in the BBS to keep my "collection" complete.
BWG Qty 1 CoolBlue Qty 1 RedHot88 Qty 2 Pontiac
BBS Qty 2 Pontiac
About the color of the checkers in the flag, I'll go with what you & the group decide. Both look good. I hope I didn't created to much of a headache for you with the BWG coin. If they don't look good, I'll take the blame.
Thank you again.
