I want ya to know the rest of us haven't forgotten you, and all the miles you drive to these things. It WILL come back to your area and when it does, I expect all will remember all the times you guys/gals made those long trips.
These are hard times--economy sucks--and i expect no one to make a trip if it isn't in their best interest--we will be thinking about you even if you can't make it.

Really? Now that we got that straight. I'd figure I delegate you as the Travel planner since I know how much you love to investigate all the back roads of Texas.

Don, we need to start us a Rockin Red River Ruckus Road Rally VIII thread in General Chat or Events. Put all of the same info, map etc you used to make the anouncement. Don and I talked about 20 min's on the phone this morning about this Ruckus and we are determined to make this a fun trip for all in attendance. Please feel free to send us any suggestions, or anything in this general area you would like us to include on the cruise. Joe Crawford
With the new promotion at work and moving to south Texas and until the house here is sold most of our things will be in storage, like the Fiero. If we get a new place and the car is not in storage we should be able to be there. I HOPE

ahoy hoy all. okc here. edmond to be exact. anything beyond dallas would be pushing it for me for a few reasons. 1, i dont kow how my car will act after its tuned. probably better, but the reliability is a whole nother issue. gotta wait and see. and 2, since im stationed out at tinker and am on a medical hold for being medically seperated and its already past my end of service date (i should be done with the navy today, but am not) i wouldnt be able to get leave granted. and just going is really pushing it with the military.
Just to be sure--- You guys do understand that the dragstrip is not going to be an option for Sun afternoon Oct 11?
I have started a thread in "events--but will keep both threads updated, but prefer to answer questions here.
Joe--are you free to ride down with me to Baytown this Friday?
Don , wifes surgery is noon Thursday. I think friday is a bad time for me. I have to work over night Friday night and Satuerday night. I will have to play this by ear for a few days. Maybe a week. Joe

Nope. I won't be there. VERY bummed. Been hired for the football game on that Friday night and am producing the DVDs and CDs for a band competition on Saturday.
Sorry guys....just way to much $$$ would be lost if I went. Even if I chose to not be there and to go, I just can't afford to pay any of my other guys to be at these events instead of me.

Opps--I updated the thread in "events" but forgot to edit this one.
Fri Oct 9--early arrivals can check in to motel. I'll meet with them that night and give out maps etc. Sat Oct 10--9am--about 1:30 pm--show & shine. Afternoon cruise--. Sun Oct 11--breakfast, we will have the goodbye meeting and discuss next year's Ruckus. I just got back from Baytown.
Lodging will be in one of the motels in the vicinity of I-10 and Garth Road--about 1/8th mile from anticipated show & shine site. Whichever one can give me the best group rate--I'm still working on getting all the quotes.
Within 1/4 mile radius of the group of motels I am talking to, are: Sonic. Cracker Barrel. Denny's. Chili's. Whataburger. Johnny Corrino's Italian A Mexican Restraunt whose name escapes me at the moment.
This will be easy on--easy off access. I-10 to Baytown--exit Garth Road. Motels are clustered on the north side of the interstate----primary* show site is on south side.
The mall told me they would have to look at their marketing schedule to see where they would put us. If they have no vendors on the main entrance side, we can have the big parking lot to ourselves in front. If they have something like a portable building vendor in there, we will have to go to the back parking lot. The front was empty today, but the local guys in the classic car club said that changes week to week. This is a large mall, with full ammenities--food court, multiscreen cinema, even bungee jumping.
All of us will have to sign a liability release wfen we arrive Sat morning at the show site--no exceptions! The lady was very explicit about this--and we must allow the public free access to the show area. It's not the sort of situation where thru traffic will be driving thru, but for civic events such as this, we cannot stop people from walking thru the area to see our vehicles--which I would NOT want to do anyway.
* I have an alternate site picked out, which was reccommended to me today by one of the local hotrodders. A little further away from the motels area, but it has a big circular drive thru, lined with big oak trees, which may be better than an open mall parking lot if we have an Indian Summer and it's hot as blazes in Oct. The downside is, it is grassy in places, and was holding some rainwater, since we've had a deluge for the last 48 hrs. My intentions are to take both places, then opt out of the least desirable one a week or so before the event. They are only about 30 minutes away from each other. Unfortunately, in our haste to get out to my truck in a pouring rainstorm, I forgot my digital camera. I'll get some pics next time.
Ferry over the Houston Ship Channel going to San Jacinto Battlegrounds: IF there is an extremely high tide due to high winds, naviating the boarding ramps in a Fiero may be a problem. I have been on this ferry before with no problem in my 84, but those with lowering kits may want to be very careful--just go slow--you should be ok. The ferry is only about 15 minutes from the San Jacinto Mall. At 4pm today, wait time for the ferry was less than 15 minutes on the south side--longer on the north side, but we won't be coming back from the north----we will take the high bridge over the channel on the other end of baytown/LaPorte.
I'll have more for you monday or tuesday.
