Hey all, the fabric on my stock seats is in great shape, but the butt cushion feels kinda like a rock. Can the original covers be removed and the foam built up or restored, and then the original fabric reinstalled? Also, the driver's side outer cushion bolster has been bent down and basically flattened. Is it possible to bend that back into position and have it hold? It is an 87 SE with tan interior.

I tried searching but found little or nothing. I was surprised because I imagined many would be affected by similar issues. Maybe this is well traveled territory for all you gurus. Thanks for helping out!

This makes me laugh because I bought my Fiero off of ebay and flew to California to pick it up (and drive it back home to Oklahoma). I made it about 300 miles or so before I had to stop at a walmart to buy a pillow for the seat bottom. Long story short, my rear section was sore for a week.......... but it gave in and conformed long before the seat bottom did .

As far as the answer to your question, I wish I knew.........I would replace the foam in mine in a second if I knew of a source and a way to form it.

You can add dense sheet foam like Mr Mikes has, or order new seat foam. I got brand new seat foams for my 66 Dodge, so Im sure there available.

Thanks all for the replies. I might contact Mr. Mike about just getting seat foam inserts. All new seat foam sounds enticing too...any idea where can I buy it? Also, will I need hog rings and a tool to put the original seat fabric back on?

Yes, you will need hog rings. The side piece of the lower cushion is most likely the foam torn. I doubt it would hold if you tried to fix it. On my drivers seat was the same way. Good news is the bottom cushion on the seats is interchangeable side to side, so you can use the bottom cushion from a junkyard cars passenger seat to fix your drivers side. This is what I did on mine. The passenger seats got a lot less use than the drivers side ones did.

You need to be a little careful. The foam Mr. Mike provides is so much thicker and firmer than the old worn out foam you can lose an inch or more of headroom if you are not careful. I had to cut my foam down an inch because I couldn't afford to lose the headroom in my choptop.

Another thing Mr. Mike told me is that all you have to do is swap the seat bottoms from side to side. That way the worn down driver's bolster will be up against the passenger side console and vice versa. Your seat foam will look new at no extra cost.

Here is an easy cheap solution for you. Just buy a nice, not very sat in, passenger seat.

The top and bottom can be interchanged with the drivers side. For the bottom seat there is a threaded clamp that the hingle bolt goes through, easily removed and can be put on the other side. The bolt holes for the mechanism on the seat bottom are already there, just need to poke through the foam to get to them.

For the seat back pry the foam away from the recline mechanism and it too can be unbolted as well as the hinge on the other side.

The worst wear on a passenger as far as foam will be the bolster on the seat bottom where people got in and out of the car. However, you will find that this really is not an issue when you use the passenger side seat bottom on the driver side because the carpeted center will actually push the bolster that was once the outer passenger seat bottom bolster back into place and hold it there, making it look perfect.

Because the inside bolsters, top and bottom, on the passenger seat were never really touched by people getting in or out in all the years it was in the car, when these bolsters become the outer bolsters of the drivers side they look as firm and perfect as they did when the car was new.

You can then do this with your drivers seat. switch it to the passenger seat and will get essentially the same result on both sides.

Hope this helps you. I have done this several times and I don't think you will be disappointed with the results.

Didn't someone do a thread about this once? I can't find it no matter what I type in.
