Yes, there is a guy who made a Cosworth Vega powered Fiero several years ago. I'm pretty sure he's a member of this Forum.
I made an adapter plate for him.
I'll try to find some details later when I'm at the shop.

Gee Archie, I wonder who that could be! There have been two that I know of. Gerald Storvik of Fresno, CA put one in his '84 for autocrossing. He had completely redesigned the rear suspension and frame the last time I saw it. Being a Cosworth Vega guy, I had seen his web site when he was first putting the engine in his car. While out in CA I made plans to stop by his shop to check his progress. At the time I knew very little about Fiero's, I still don't know a whole lot! Gerald's engine fit with just a little shoe-horning and modification to the right rear shock tower. What I did know about Fiero's was that the '88 had a redesigned and better suspension. So when I returned home I started looking for an '88 GT. Found a very clean one in North Carolina. I visited Archie, he modified a V8 adapter plate for me, his clutch and starter went right in and I was off. Little did I know the '88 shock towers were closer together than the earlier models. My shoe-horning turned out to be a bit more work. There was no room for the distributor drive and not enough room for the intake system. I finally got it in and learned a couple more things after that. I should have rigidly mounted it and found some way to replace the dog bone that I did not have room for.
I probably drove the car a total of 50 miles, always had trouble with the hydraulic clutch. I took the engine out of it three years ago to put back in a Vega. Started a 3800 conversion which I haven't yet finished and probably won't.
So yes, it has been done but probably won't be done again. The 2.0L street versions can easily make 180 HP, stroked 2.4L versions about 240 HP. The engines actually did very well in open wheel midget racing, won their last championship in '93 or '94, ARCA midget series. Chevy designed a heavy duty block for it although they only made 50 blocks. In race trim the 2.0L made 300 HP.
