i noticed just now when the lights are up, the tilt of the lids make it look sad. has anyone done a custom hood, probably with wings like an old corvette, that reversed the tilt of the headlight doors so they went from "sad" to "angry"?

I'm sure you can custom mount the lights, for a stock but mean look, just have them (headlamps) raise up more on the outer edge and less on the inner edge. Instead of flipping open, they would raise up. get it? I don't know. Potentially expensive mod for something so little. Good idea though.

I'm not sure what he means by that. Sorry. I'm sure what ever you do, it'll look good. Throw mud at a Fiero and it'll still look good.
you know how a split hood opens from the middle? i THINK thats what he means. like the headlight doors would hinge on the outer edge of the car and lift open from the center

Wouldn't that make it look sad-er? Since the edge of the headlight door would be leaning outward, expressing low-self confidence and fragility whereas the edge leaning inwards would look for confident and pissed off.

(brace yourselves, sov3rn drove me to it for the first time in weeks) LOL. yes it would, but i think it would be unique enough to still be awesome

I don't want to ever see the head lights. I like the doors closed. Do we ever look at each others cars during the day with the lights open? I wouldn't think you would ever see light mods driving in the dark

There are times that aren't pitch black that require lights on. And im pretty sure people would notice if the doors opened from the center. Nobody sees the engine bay unless you show them...so how is that different?
I did a photoshop where I switched the doors side to side but I cant find it. Tonight I will do another. The thing is its going to be pretty hard to pull off. Its the angle of the door hinges and the shape of the doors.

I don't think its overly dependent on the angle of the headlight door hinges. When I did my slim pop ups, I noticed that it was the shape of the headlight buckets that made them look like that. When I cut my buckets down, I cut them so that the headlight door would sit horizontal and not on an angle. It worked.
the only answer I see to this is to put a 2nd hinged area on the door itself, at the very front, tapered so it is narrow near the inside & wider on the outside, and hangs downwards when the lights open. tho this will minorly shade some of the lamp - but it will look like a scowl. this will give it the \ / instead of the / \ look

I looked into it a couple of years ago. The work it would take to make them look right wasnt worth it. It could be done but it would take reworking the buckets and the hood.
Now what I have thought of doing is having the head lights lay flat with the hood when off and then rotate up when you turn them on.
I like the look of them only 1/2 to 3/4 way up. Like Doublec4 did. I never remember to turn on the lights when Im washing the car, so the lights and inside mechanisms are usually dirty. Last time I washed I remembered to open and clean them. I was playing around with turning them on, and then off quickly stopping them at 1/2 open. Looks good, but lights dont work properly that way.
I think a lot of the sad look stems from GM designers making the forward edge of the headlight cover parallel to the edge seam of the hood. If they had made the forward headlight cover straight across (perpendicular to the centerline of the car) instead, it would not have the sad look when opened. I'm sure that the leading edge seam of the headlight cover could be modified if desired. We should just be glad that our cars are not the Buick Reatta, they look much worse than ours when open.

Vendetta, #1 Very nice car. #2 A question for you. Are those the Dual 90mm Hella headlight modules, or something else? Details would be appreciated.
Thanks, and again, a very nice car, looks GREAT.

Thanks for the compliments. They are RX7 flush mounts that i retrofit to fit the fiero pop ups. They were originally done by a member here name FieroKing. And i just went off of his and did a few things a little differently. I bought the lights off of ebay. I'm not sure if they are still available or not.
Thanks again,
Austin

FINALLY someone posted a visual of cheevers idea...
i think if you attach the entire mechanism to the hood and have two crescent shaped pieces (big one for the outter part, smaller for the inner part so it lifts the outside part more) used to raise and lower the door and lights somehow (maybe raised using gears?) it could work. get what i mean?
