Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that an 88 sway bar doesn't fit after the cradle is in place. I'm going to run without it until I need to drop the cradle again. You learn something new everyday.

Seems we encountered that very issue not so long ago.......
When I starting swapping over the suspension, it hit me. I thought there was something I was forgetting! Oh yeah! I don't plan on taking any hard corners for now. I should be ok.

It took us three tries to get the sway bar right. First we forgot it, then we installed it upside down, and the third cradle drop was the charm. We are quick learners.

Hey Rick. you were not supposed to tell how many times it took us to install a rear sway bar.......LOL...... It was just a test to see if anyone was paying attention = all your "whip cracking" had me frazzled! 3rd time is a charm!
I love burnouts in the garage!

That burnout was at around 1:30AM, so I was trying to be polite. After I get it burped and all the loose ends tied up, it's on! The trans fluid smelled horrible, so I wanna flush that out before I get it hot.
More to come!
Need some ideas on what to do with the rest of the car. I'm digging the flat black, but it needs to stand out.

While I don't go for the matte finishes, I think this car could be given a menacing look. If you black out the wheels it will look like a lot of other cars already done this way. . If you finish the wheels in a contrasting color, you could go for the "rally car" look with graphics and some kind of "sponsor" logos eg "Carver Performance" or something like that. Just thinking out loud......

I'm thinking of going with a satin finish and stripping down the Scion wheels to the silver finish. Maybe a wild thin stripe on the side. After I get all the bugs out, then I'll start on the cosmetics. The yellow on the bus really started growing on me though! I've started to notice a few orange cars that stand out also. As far as the logos, I like the small white logos along the rockers as long as they are clean and uniform. I have a few cadillac emblems that could be put on a few places. The 4.9 logo will fit perfectly on the rear decklid.

I took it out for about a 10 miles trip to AZ and back. FUN! No overheat issues. They SES could not be determined at the parts store. I gotta wiring issue somewhere..... It bogs down on hard throttle, so more digging is required. It runs damn near perfect though. I still think one of the injectors is going or gone at anything other than idle.
A question about the 4.9 auto setup though. If I shift into N while driving, the idle raises to around 2K. Is this normal? Vacuum leak maybe?

Not normal. Time to throw a vacuum gauge on it and see how many inches of vac you have at idle. Sounds like it's coming along nicely. Torque is your friend

That is a sweet looking fastba...notc...formu?.....It's Nice! I love the nose.
I got it all buttoned up to park outside. Fixed the leaking brakes, and I think all the air is out. Time to have fun with it now.
First I gotta clean this garage up! It's horrible.
More pics coming!
Also, I found one vac leak from a cracked hose. I'll keep digging....
LOL Ya its a little bit of everything. Its part 85GT 87GT, 93 Caddy and lots of time.
I used the 87GT Chassis with my 85GT Body and Interior minus the nose and rear deck and fastback panels. Used the Caddy drive-train from my 85GT and had a lot of friends help with the body work. Car turned out really well.

Drove the Stray to work this morning! 125 miles, all freeway. 80+ mph. No issues so far. Stayed cool the whole trip. The air cleaner needs to be moved/rerouted to get some fresh air, but that should be easy. Pics coming! The more I drive it, the better it runs. I think the fuel in the tank before the swap was most of the cause. FIlled up with 91 and it screams. I will be flushing all the fluids this weekend and double checking all the blots and connectors. So far, so good!

NOt entirely out of the ordinary. 2k RPM is a bit high. While moving, throttle realeased in neutral, it should set to your coasting idle speed. This is usually between 1200-1500RPM. You probably have a vac small leak somewhere. Quite small.
Edit: Nevermind I see now you have it fixed.

Yeah, got the raised idle fixed. Another small issue though. On the freeway, the RPM's at 80 are around 2300-2500. I am guessing the tach is off? It doesn't seem to be that high, just reading off the gauge. If I rap it up quick, it will peg out the tach. I know I am not bumping 6K like it shows. It's almost like it is hunting for the right reading while cruising, but the engine is a constant rpm.

Did you modify your tach to read properly? This has to be done for any V8 swap. The tach is an air core meter that moves based on pulses sent from the dist. So if your car was a 4cy originally then your tach is getting 2x the pulses , V6 ~25% more pulses. Info on how to do this is located here... http://fieros.de/en/main.html Click "articles"> "tachometer reverse engineered"
If you need help modifying the tach just ask. If you already did this double check the wiring from coil to C500. Should be the white wire.

Congratulations! After you recalibrate the tach you will find how easy a cruiser this combo is. A cold air set up will also do some good. If you can find the stock Caddy top for the throttle body that is a good start to making the system. You can pirate parts from the 2.8 air cleaner set up as well. Maybe now you will start liking the 88's more!

Yeah, I am looking for the top of a caddy to make a hybrid setup. Tried to do a little power brake here at work today. The front tires just slide. Need some better rubber. I might be picking up another cheap one this weekend. Time for the next project!

Can you imagine how much trouble we would get into if we didn't live 300 miles apart?
Thanks Pat!
We get into enough trouble as it is..... I went from having a couple of my own projects this fall/winter to having 3 more Fiero's to swap things around on! I'ts all your fault too! LOL.
Pat
Edit to add, if I lived just down the street, I bet I could talk you into slipping that Solstice motor into a Fiero and then doing an LSx swap into the Solstice! heehee.........

After looking at the car last night, I'm gonna cut the front springs. How does two coils sound? It looks like a pond skipper with that nose in the air.

Here is a video of my "hunting" tach. It is fine at idle and when accelerating. When cruising with a slight load, (uphill) it is hunting around with a slight miss. Could this be just plugs?
