How about this one?

looks like my parts fiero has a taste for cherry pickers!

I bought this 87 SE last week and finally got a chance to tear it down this weekend. I knew the chassis was shot but DAMN! I didn't think I was going to tare the car in half trying to get the engine out. Here is the trunk!

I have never seen rot this bad on any vehicle before. Hardpact gave me a hand yesterday for a couple of hours and when he pulled the bolt holding the rear clip to the chassis behind the drivers side sail, the rear end sank 3 inches. The panels started to bend and was literally all holding the old girl together.

I couldn't pass it up for $300 with a getrag in it and the interior was in great condition. I didn't get any before pics but the trunk ripping off was too good not to post. I hope you enjoyed the pictures!

surprisingly, I was able to pick up the cab from the back by myself and roll it forward to make a little more room for the cherry picker. I was a little behind schedule and wasn't able to get the engine off the cradle in time to get it to its new owner tonight. In all honesty however, It was a LOT easier to get the cradle out.

Edit to add one more, Here is the trunk!

In all seriousness though, I think a little bit of por-15 and some rustoleom and youd be all set. I mean look at it this way... all that rust that has flaked off is essentially a free weight reduction process...

It was last registered in 2008. Thats the best I can tell yah. I know the PO attempted to fix it up by replacing the cradle that was cracked in half after it was taken off the road but that only ammounted to me getting a decent cradle with the car.

Being from the great Southwest.....where 40 + year old muscle cars are still spotless.....this is horrifying. I've never seen anything like this....nor do I want to. Even surface rust makes me queasy.....this is unreal !!

I was actually intending on it to fold upward similar to that and was well aware I would have to cut the trunk out. I just didn't realize it would do it all by itself! The vehicle was bowing in the center a little when I bought it and after a good inspection of the chassis, I decided I had to flat bed it instead of using a tow dolly. The body panels were all quite clean and at 1st glance, the car looked great! I really wish I had a good before pic of it now. We do get on average the highest snow fall in the country here and the roads are slathered with salt all winter but this was still ridiculously rotted. This car had to have seen all of the worst salted roads in every winter in Upstate NY since it rolled off the production line!

Edit to add a funny little skit,

Fiero enthusiast 1: "So, how do the trunk corners look?"
Fiero enthusiast 2: "What trunk corners?"

Wow. And I thought I had it bad with rust. That Fiero is one that I would not try to save. I don't even want to think if someone attempted to drive that car without knowing the fact that is has more fiberglass then metal.

The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name' sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: For thou art with me;
Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies;
Thou annointest my head with oil; My cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever.

RIP Poor Fiero
