Before I post pff for pda has no search engine. I use my blackberry and do not have a computer. Anyways I want to make a hood scoop. I want to see some pics and what car they came off. And does anyone have prices for hoods at pick n pull?
That looks sweet. What are the scoop that are sunk into the hood. I don't know any other way to word it. Like a gt40 scoop
That is like a Corvette scoop.
This is like a GT 40 scoop in a way. The GT 40 is a little different but it vents out directly behind the raditator tovent out the high pressure area under the hood.

hey hyperv6, can you enlighten us as to where one of those heat dissipating devises can be purchased? that looks exactly like what i've been looking for. it goes down at a steeper angle than the warbler style. more like the venturi 600slm hood. i like that hood alot!

hyperv6 - I too would like to purchase that exact style of vent. I have a Ferrari 328 kit with a non working vent - your vent would fit perfectly with lines on the hood and the venting slats on the headlight covers. Please enlighten us, Fiero inquiring minds want to know!

I can now say, wow, what a difference in handling. I drove down to Ashland, NE from St. Paul, MN for school for the Nat'l Guard and will be heading home tomorrow. If you want to see more you can find it here https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum1/HTML/074427.html

all the style of hood that relieves air pressure from under the hood look good...not trying to hijack but how much cooler does it make the car run??? v8 project down the road and i'd LOVE to know how well it helps cooling

It is not to help with cooling. It is to relieve under hood pressure to help with handling at high speed. It probably indirectly allows a little more airflow though.

The wheels are Pime wheels. They have been out of production for a while now. They are a rip off of a BBS wheel. I wanted the BBS but not the $650 price. These were around $200 in 1992
I made the center caps out of the center of a 1988 Pontiac Bonneville hub cap. They were larger with w red star burst pattern and I cut them down and sanded off the star burst.
The then polished them out and repainted them.

Guys I am sorry but the hood has not been made for many years. It was offered out of the Fiero Club of America years ago.
It was over priced and really poor quality. I hate to say but I may have more in that hood than some paid for their cars. It was like a Tar Baby and I was latched on and just could not let go. I just finally got it to not crack anymore.
As far as I know I have only seen 3 of these hoods. One is gone and the other was on a Fiero in Chicago. I am not sure it is around anymore.
Where many put as vent into the hood this hood was a fiberglass mold that had a stock under frame molded in. This hole was not cut it was molded in as a whole hood.
Not sure where the mold is today. It was in California but that was years ago.
Most of my car was built prior to 1992. I bought it in 1985 and did about one mod per year till the early 1990's. Other than the factory sub and cd radio up grade and the Mr Mike seats this car is a show case of many of the parts avaiable in the 80's and not often found today.
The Ground FX are Peguses ground fX from the 80's the Rear Scoop is a original DGP form the 80's the sway bars are the Herb Adams set up from the 80's. The T top is a Cars and Concepts retro fit by one of their installers in the 80's. The rear bumper FX are the Mecham VSE FX.
Over half the car is still the original paint.
Even with it being through 3 winters I kept it clean enough I still wax the floor pan as it is still has a shine.

i like this style best, the 2 separate scoops dont look as bulky to me, and should be just as much help. if/when i get a project fiero to build to performance this will be something like what i do.

My car always ran cold with the 160 degree thermostate. So I can not say it runs any cooler.
It does handle higher speed better with the lost of the high pressure aresa up front. It does genreate some lift and high speed instablility. The Fiero was never designed for high speeds as the stock car with a V6 barely would make 125 MPH. If they had they would have done the light doors different and other aero things to make the car more stable. But in the 80's that was never a big factor on most cars.
The one thing the vent does is it make a hell of a bug deflector. At night you can see a big moth flying infront of the car and once he passes over the hood he will shoot straight up and over the roof. It is funny to watch them miss the windsheld.

this is the one my son and i built from scratch. With our tired duke i doubt it will ever see speeds that would make it feel any different but we liked the look and didn't want to cut any support structure from the hood or the radiator area. the openings go under the covered portion at the front and then open into the high pressure area behind the radiator.

hyperv6 - thanks for the explanation and congrats that you have a rare hood vent even though it drove you crazy!!
IMHO its the best looking hood vent I've ever seen on a Fiero. If anyone out there in the Fiero community is so inclined to produce these vents I would think you would have no problem selling them. Anyone out there willing to try?

Not having the hot air trying to find its way back under the car after the radiator does help with cooling. Look at the space behind the radiator now and think about where the air has to move. A nice vent will allow it to move in a smoother flow and the less air under the car the better. I have a large vent in my hood and it helps with my V8 but I also have large side scoops and a vent on the back deck lid.

Thanks. It is one of only a few hoods I ever liked and that made it easier for me to waste all the money I put into it. LOL.
The hood did come into the front trunk front wall. They recomended to cut the wall but I just took a rubber mallet and bent it back just a little and it cleared. I have put the stock hood on form time to time when I had the other hood off. It readjsut fine.
Some day I may see if someone could make a mold off of mine but with as much trouble I had I don't want to risk it right now.
If I sold them I could make back all the money I spent and break even.
Note I did french in the over flow cap so it is exposed in a cut out so I did change this a little.

Is that some of the hex mesh from the underside of the decklid vents?
Negative. Well, they are hex, but they're just some "vents" off a Grand Prix front bumper. I haven't got them molded in yet as I'm still tossing ideas around, but if you want a little more info or want to see some of the other ideas, check out this thread:
OK since I'm not very mechanically inclined, I have to ask. Why do some people choose a rear facing scoop and others choose a front facing scoop? Is one more effective and one more cosmetic?

Front facing scoops on a Fiero hood only works if there are actually rear vents as well. The idea is to get air out from under the hood.
