Haven't updated in a a few days just thought I would touch base with everyone. I spent the weekend sanding, sanding and more sanding. I did have one sight of hope when I sprayed some primer on the hood and rocker panels. I suppose I wasn't thinking clearly when I tore into this thing in the fact that it is hard for me to spray too many panels at a time with limited space! DUH Maybe I didn't think this through all the way after all! LOL By the way I own page two also!

Sad to say this is the best looking part of the car so far!
I'm a little over 2 months into this one already and right now with the body work it just seems like it is taking forever. I am really slow at this. Wish I had some help on this part. I'm not very good at it. My paint had tons of cracking in it so I had to sand down till it was gone. If it had just been bad clearcoat and maybe a couple of slight repair spots it wouldn't be so bad but, like I said I am having to sand a ton to get rid of all the cracking paint. Wish I had a couple of paint gurus near me! lol

Not unless they know how to sand a spray as well! I have got to figure out a better way to spray this thing. One or two pieces at a time is not going to cut it. I'm thinking about just spraying my jambs and putting it all back together and then spraying it all at once. My patience wears thin! LOL
Another productive day. Started early this morning and got a lot accomplished. So today all my door jambs and trunk jambs are painted. My rockers and inner sail panels and inside the gas door are all painted. Car is almost 100% retaped for a full body spray tomorrow. Hopefully by tomorrow afternoon I am putting it all back together. So far the paint is laying down pretty good. I'll try to take a couple of pics later so you can see what it looks like. I'm still a bit new to painting but how many coats do the forum painters recommend? I put three coats on everything so far and those same pieces will get more when I shoot the entire car again after assembly. I want to make sure I don't have any color variation between panels. WooHoo getting closer! LOL

So I got a few pics for those of you following this thread. Enjoy.
Trunk deck jamb all shiny for once.
Inner sail panels. They were rough. I'm trying the white but if I deside later I don't like them I will go back with black.
I painted the door jambs too but I already have those taped up for tomorrow. Here she is just about ready for paint. I think I may go ahead and throw the fenders and bumper covers on this go around so I get good coverage. I can't get the hood on because I taped off the whole nose so I didn't overspray all my cleaned up trunk space!
I guess if the painting goes wrong tomorrow I can at least read the paper! lol

I love doing the small projects. Painting a whole car is not a small project! LOL Can't wait to shoot it and be done getting color on it. I have a few more small projects I want to tackle on the interior. Once I get the paint done I still have to tackle the wheels too. Still haven't made up my mind on color for them yet either. Probably going to go with black on those. Too much white is not a good thing sometimes. Thanks for the comments. A little encouragement goes a long ways towards finishing.

Got the 1st coat on the body today. Hoping to spray at least 2 more coats today. Boy its been a while since I sprayed this big gun. Got several sags to sand out when I'm done. Can't seem to get the gun to spray a wider pattern?? Anyway will take pics later after a couple more coats.

SO I got 3 coats on her today. Got a couple pics for all to see. I have a little bit of work ahead of me still though. Couldn't get the spray gun to work right. First coat went on a little heavy and I have a few sags in the paint to show for it. Will wet sand those tomorrow and then spray a few more coats. Will also spray my hood and bumper covers. All in all I'm still happy with it even though the spray gun didn't want to cooperateand a couple of bugs desided to cop a squat on my fresh paint! lol
Maybe tomorrow it will really look like something once it all starts going back together.

So today she got her final coats. While I wish I were a paint and body man I am not! I guess we will just call this a 10 or 15 foot paint job for now until I can afford to have a professional do it! It still looks tons better. Already untaped it. What a difference a few coats of paint makes! LOL I am in the process of putting back together now. I started painting my front and rear bumper covers this morning until the wind got up and speckled my paint with tiny grass blades. Gonna have to start over on those I guess. Still pleased with it even if its not perfect. Will take a few pics later of the progress. Still have to repaint the bumper covers and paint the hood and headlight doors. Hopefully can finish them up tomorrow if all goes well.

Well it was windy again today so I didn't get any painting done on my bumper covers or hood but I got a ton of little things put back in place. Inner fender wells are all buckled up. Finished my drivers side inside door panel. Got the sunroof seal and sunroof back in place. Cleaned all the windows. Got my rockers riveted back in place (except for inside the door jambs). Repaired my front fiero emblem (cracked). Fitted my fog lights in the front bumper cover. Spent a big part of the day helping a friend move so I guess I still got a lot done all thing concidered! My to do list is still the following. 1) Paint and install front and rear bumper covers 2) I think before I paint the hood I am going to try to vent it. (Wish I could afford a drop in unit) 3) Paint and install rear spoiler. 4) Finish passenger side door panel. (Drivers side came out great). 5) Install reconditioned tailights. 6) Install and wire up fog lights. (Mounting holes already drilled) 7) Start recondition of all four wheels. (Thing I am going black on the inner mesh part) 8) Try to repair drip rails. (They were bent and dinged up pretty bad so I'm not too sure about repairing) 9) Install new sail panels (already purchased) 10) Maybe someday I will let a REAL painter redo my paint job! LOL

Not much to show off today. I did look into the measurements on my hood that Carver1 sent me to cut a vent. Can't wait to try that out! Hope it all goes well I only have the one hood! LOL

Thanks. It could have come out a lot better. I really don't have the patience for painting a whoe car like I should. I got a bit frustrated after doing all that work and then having the gun screw up on the first coat. Like I said in the thread. Its a good 10 ft paint job and later I will let a pro do it! LOL

I have come to the realization that I am not a body and fender man! LOL Like I said before it looks way better than it did but, next time a pro is gonna do it for me. I can't stand all the flaws I left behind and my patience wear thin with painting! LOL

Didn't get a lot accomplished tonight but I did manage to get my passenger door panel completed. Only thing left on the inside is the respraying of the console so it matches the rest of the lighter gray I used. Looks good IMHO LOL! Hopefully this weekend the rest gets its final coats of paint and I can at least put the bumper covers and tail lights back in. Still debating on if I want to tackle the hood vent yet or wait until winter when I wouldn't be driving it much. I think I may wait for winter. I wanna drive this thing! LOL My buddy Bob is having way too much fun with his 88GT to leave me out.

Getting closer. Just a few pics of todays progress. Hoping to finish spoiler tomorrow.
Heres a shot where you can see the new fog lamps. Going to try and wire up tomorrow.
It doesn't look too bad from this distance! LOL
Can't wait to get these wheels cleaned up and done.
Finally get to see how my reconditioned taillights look! Not too bad IMHO
Tomorrow should be another busy day. Sounded good to start this thing up and pull it out of the garage. Hasn't seen daylight in weeks! Well thats it for now.

Just a little more progress today. I'm Oh so close now. Still have to paint my headlight doors. Screwed up and forgot about them until I was putting the hood on! LOL Got the hood and spoiler painted though. They turned out pretty good I suppose. My buddy Bob came by today to check on progress. Drove his mustang Cobra over. That thing sounds so sweet. So I pulled her out of the garage to let her breath a little and got a few shots in the process. I'm down to just the little things now. Tying up loose ends. Tried to find the 3M tape for the sail panels today but noone had any. Guess I'm gonna have to order it. Spent a bunch of the day at the scrap yard looking for stuff for my sons IROC. He wants the air to work now! Geez spoiled kids! LOL Tomorrow I intend to do something with the wheels and that should really set it off. More updates then I guess.
If all goes well tomorrow and the rain holds off. She should be pertty much road ready tomorrow. I still have to find the 3M tape for the sails but, I think I know where to look tomorrow. The bulk of the day should be getting the wheels perpped and painted. I will definetly post more pics once shes done. I am having a lot of fun doing this car. Seems everytime I start on sometihng I come up with a few more ideas! LOL I even got to change my signature today since shes so close!

I wish I had more pictures before I tore into my car. It was all white including the lower rocker panels, the wheels obviously were white and the center caps were black along with the lug nut covers. It really looked beautiful with the black/white color combo.
Donnie she looks sweet! Your making great progress. In your to do list you talk about making a hood vent, if this is still undecided I say go for it! I bet you could get pretty far on it in just one day

I got the headlight doors painted and installed today. Also got the passenger side wheels sanded down and painted. Sure does make a difference! LOL I'l get a couple of pics up later for everyone. Would have gotten both sides wheels done but, spent a bunch of time helping my son with his car. Hes prettying up his engine bay and he couldn't get the passenger side valve cover off. All that darn smog equipment is right in the way. I must say his engine is looking pretty good. Its a 5.7 tuned port. He painted the top and valve covers red and all his brackets got a fresh coat of black. He spent a few days a couple weeks ago cleaning the fenderwells and all that stuff. So hes really putting the work in on it for once! LOL

Donnie get the car together and drive that bad boy. Went to Moline and saw a really nice 3.8sc swap there. Wish the girlfriend would have come with so we could have brought our 88. We had 10 club Stangs that made the drive and I would have loved to put the 88 in that procession and sat her next to the Cobra at the cruise. Oh well next time. I have yet to name the 88 yet. You met "Natasha" and my blacked out Harley is "Layla". Maybe "Miaka" which means beautiful red in Japanese.......

Just posting pics of todays progress. Still have the drivers side wheels to finish and get the 3M tape for the sail panels. Just a few odds and ends left to do. Won't be long before shes on the road. I committed myself to finishing it before I started driving it so its getting close now. I wanted it to be in really good shape before I started driving it around very much. Its too hard to work on one and drive it at the same time. I'll probably get my tape tomorrow so that will set it off a bunch with the sail panels installed.

Not much to post but last night I did finish all the support stuff under the front of the car. Everything is all tight again. I started hooking up the fog light but it was too stinking hot out to do anything. I got the ground wires landed and got my power wire ran up into the headlight bay. Think I will tie into my parking light circuit so I don't have an extra switch inside that does not match the rest. More progress later I hope. The heat is supposed to be ungodly here the next few days so who knows! LOL
