Welcome aboard Ray! We need a new color to add to our squadron. Currently we are heavy in Red Fieros. I just bought a red 88, and recently sold my yellow 88 GT 5-speed. What part of town do you live in?
Pat, good thing you had a front plate on the XTC. Sheriffs seem to be the only ones that enforce the front plate law. I guess I will have to fab up a bracket for mine.....or move to New Mexico.
OWNAGE! Top of the page to you gents!

Ha - yes it was bad. Took me 20 minutes to get from the big curve above the Museums through the light and I had an Escort! I have no idea why the traffic was that bad? Never seen it like that. Did not see any accidents?
Another 4 hours and it's done I believe.
No accidents.....just bottlenecked traffic. That time of year I guess. Damn city is getting too big for my tastes.
Ray....definitely come join us sometime.

Well I got the XTC up on the jack and started tracing wires. The whole rear light harness was hangin by the wires and I found the problem. it was hanging down low enough to rub on the inside of the right rear tire. The ground wire was missing about 3 inches. A quick splice and some electrical tape, a few wire ties and she is good as new. I also tackled another little project that I have been meaning to do for awhile now. The deck lid was held shut with the old ood pins and clips setup and I hate those. My plan was/is to eventually set it up with a regular latch setup with a remote manual relaease and also use the stock trunk popper. That is still a ways off so I picked up a set of locking hood pins, did a little fabricating and got those isntalled today. They turned out pretty good and now the engine compartment is secure.
Bad wires!
New hood locks:
More later!

Wow - been awhile since I updated this! The Bus was sold yesterday to a Young Military guy here in El Paso. He has "Fiero" experinece as he has an 86 GT back home. He has big plans for the Bus and I am pretty sure this is not the last time it will see my garage. The "parts" gathering has already begun. Stay tuned to see what's next for the Bus!

The fun and games begin tomorrow! I should have the Coupe out of the garage by the time you get here Rick. Jeff is heading over early and I need to rattle Dan's cage!
No Pics again today - but we did get a lot of work done on the Mera - new 1" lowering ball joints and a set of cut springs to lower the front. Then we disassembled the rear suspension ad lubed all the poly bushings - they do not look like they were ever lubed! Had a good time today.
More tomorrow - I'll take some pics!

Another big day at the El Paso Fiero Fest. Plan for the day was to get the valves adjusted on the Mera and swap a bed out on Jan's truck. We accomplished both plus some other fun things. While Rick was putting the top end back on the Mera, Chis and I yanked the rear struts and cut 1 coil out of the back springs. After we got the car on the ground and the suspension settled, it looks like we got a 2.5" drop in front and 1.5" drop in the back. Once the valves were adjusted and the top end was put back together, we had to tackle another issue.
The Mera was running a little rough before we tore it apart - had a little lifter noise when cold and recently, started "missing" - as RPM increased, the tach would start jumping and the car would buck? What we found was the base plate on the Dizzy was loose on the dizzy housing. As vibration increased, the dizzy cap would dance around scattering the spark. Never seen that one before. We fixed it by "peening" the plate to the housing. Once we stuffed the dizzy back in, got all the vac lines reinstalled, eletrical connectors snapped on, we fired her up. Had a serious vac leak. Discovered that we failed to revconnect the brake vac line - you should have seen the exhaust manifolds glow due to running so lean! Got that fixed and set the timing - she runs great - no noisy lifters, no miss! As Rick was heading off to drive the Mera home, we found another issue. The front a arms would rub slightly in the 15" wheel when turned to lock either way. Back in the garage, up on the jack , wheels off and did a little "tweaking" of the lower a arm. All is good now and Rick is on his way home. Should have a report tomorrow!
How many Fieros can you see in this pic?
The usual suspects were in attendance!
Not a Fiero - but it needed to be done and we needed a few extra hands so we swapped out a bed on Jan's truck - had a little fender bender so he is changing from the step side to the fleet side.
Working the front end of the Mera yesterday!
And the back end today!
Rick taking a union nap on the Mera!
While Chris takes the struts out!
Got a lot of work done over the last 2 days - have some more to do tomorrow. Someone in this group went and bought a 2000 3800SC out of a Bonny today! You will have to guess which car it's going into. Should be starting a build thread next friday when we pick up the motor. Will be doing rotors and pads on the XTC tomorrow plus finish the exhaust on the V8 Coupe and maybe finish the aux gauge pod in Jeff's GT! I also need to do some interior maintenance on the Formula! It never ends!
More tomorrow!
Pat

I have been swamped at work. This is the first chance to get on Pennocks. The rotors on the XTC look great. Don't forget to send me the link where you got them with the ceramic pads. There are a number of resonator tips you can look at for the V8 coupe if it needs the edge taken off.
By the way, that is not my "good side" in the pics.

I had to trim the bump stops in front. Now it has the same clearance it did originally. The Mera really has a nice stance with a little more sorting it will be great. The best part so far, absolutely no more poly squeaks!!!!

Spent a few hours in the yard getting a cradle and some trans mount brackets! While Jordan and Chris took the cradle out, Jeff and I roamed the yard looking for SC parts. We had good luck with 3 out og the 4 bolts on the cradle. The 4th one in the rear decided to "spin". So we cut a "window" in the frame adjacent to the frame nut and ended up working it out by wedging a couple pry bars under/around the frame nut. Vice grips simply would not hold the nut. We found the brackets we needed on several cars but while we were roaming, we found the 2 we needed just laying there on the ground next to a cradle "winning"!
We took the cradle to the car wash and degreased it then back to the man cave for some fit up. Rick came by in the Mera and we changed the front springs. We installed some cut springs last week along with some lowering ball joints. Although the car looked good, it was just too low in front so we installed the stock Mera front springs. Still have some work to do in the rear but it's getting close.
All in all, this weekend we turned a wrench on 5 Fiero's this weekend.
Get that bolt out Jordan!
Out and stripping off all the unwanted parts:
The usual gathering!
Got the trans mounts completed this afternoon - will start fabbing the front motor mounts this week.
More later!

Hey Pat, did somone strip the roof off the red GT in the yard? The 2.8 looks pretty complete. Might be nice for donor parts for another 3.4 swap.
On the Mera, It drives much better with the stock front springs. I can clear a speed bump, my driveway, mosquito, etc. without panic. And best of all not a single poly squeak!!!!

Not much to report today. Went over to Frizlefrak's to assist in a oil leak repair on his 20k mile cream puff! Seems the dealership that he bought it from botched a valve cover gasket replacement job and tore the gasket on the firewall side valve cover. We tore the top end off and mamaged to get the valve cover back on - will finish it up in the AM.
This looks familiar:

FWIW, I emailed the dealership in California and politely laid out the problem. They responded, accepted responsibility, were very apologetic and have offered some compensation. Can't ask for much more than that. Tomorrow, she lives again.

It was a busy day at the El Paso Fiero Fest. Early this AM, we finished buttoning up Frizlfrak's GT. Had a few little issues but we were able to figure them out. Then we headed back to my place and started some disassmbly of the 3800SC - pulled the valve covers to inspect the inside and we pulled the blower to inspect inside. It's pretty clean inside and looks to be in very good shape. Got the injectors in the cleaner and pulled the motor off the cradle so I could finish welding the mounts.
We went to the pick and pull to get some SC swap parts. Found a 99 Grand Prix with the correct passenger side inner CV but the Driver side axle was gone. Also got the short blower idler setup. Jordan pulled the front harness and one headlight motor out of an 87 for a Gen 2 swap on the Bus and he and Jeff completed the swap this afternoon. Works great and was a plug and play swap - pretty easy too! They had to do some splicing as the 87 harness had a few connectors missing. Frizlefrak and Mrs. Frizlefrak came over about 5:00 pm in his new GT and we procedded to have a BBQ, drink Fat Tires and Blue Moon and told a million FIero stories! We had a great time and got a lot done.
3800SC looks nice and clean inside:

This is as close to a "new" Fiero that I have ever seen - Frizlefrak's 86 GT:

Rick came by with his Mera and we did a little suspension work and played with the timing. Also worked on the IAC and changed the MAP. Have not got a report back yet if we made a difference but I'll find out tomorrow. Als been working on an extractor hood vent in my V8 Coupe. It's coming along!

Had a little gathering at Fiero Fest headqurters today. Did some work on Jordan's swap, the V8 car and generally sat aroung and shot the breeze. There is a local guy advertising a T Top GT on local CL and on PFF. Jeff, Rick and I went to take a look at it today. He also has a big pile of Fiero parts that he is trying to get rid of. Rick found some nice door glass and I picked up some coolant tubes, a AC style rad fan, some stock Fiero "gray" floor mats in pretty good shape and a Notchie deck lid with a scoop already molded in and most of the "work" is done. The car looks pretty good - it needs some TLC but it would be a great project. None of us have the time or space to take on another one. Somebody needs to pick this car up and save it.
A few of the usual suspects:
Not a rebodied Fiero - but it's a pretty serious hot rod!
Some of my treasures:
And the deck lid:
More later!
