This will be a good build to watch. I have wanted to do a replica for a long time now. I have looked at the Countach and the Diablo kits both stretched and stock length. Because I am also interested in building a muscle car of some sort I have almost decided to go a simpler route. A donor that already has a V-8 and a 6-speed tranny. But, depending on your build, I may change my mind again. I realize the front is more "bulky" if you will but that`s the price to pay for a front engine. This one uses a 93-02 Camaro or Firebird donor.
Wow, just wow!!!
I just threw up in my mouth.

I think there is a lot of work there and frankly I like it. I wont say that if I did it I would have choosen the stretched version to match the factory length but I would drive the wheels off of that car. Nice job.

Gadjet, that kit is not on a stretched frame. It goes on a stock Firebird or Camaro chassis. Thus, the only part I`m not particuarly fond of, is the way the front has to come up further than a stock Mercie to clear the engine. You can see videos and other views of the car here. http://www.carkitinc.com/carkit2.php?id=12
Sorry, Randye, for getting off of the subject of your build. Mike

Yes I know. That is what I am saying. If I choose to build one I would stretch it. This however looks good but in my opinion the stretched mercy looks better. But this would be fine.
I have looked at this same kit at www.carkitinc.com multiple times. But the stretched verson looks better to me. (I applaude anyone that does any of these stretched or not) I could never afford to do either.

Ok, it's soo badly distorted that it's worst than the short Countach's. To me, if your going to put out the amount of effort to build one, why build one that isn't going to fool anybody??? When you get down to it, a replica is about image. Hell, the engine isn't even in the right place!!! Never mind the fact that it's on a fourth gen f-body, as if they couldn't get any fuglyier.
Cheers Beers n Gearz. Joe

I respect your opnion and as I said in my above post I don`t like the front either, but as I always tell people when I get into the replica discussion, I`m not looking to fool anyone into thinking a replica is the real thing, all I care about is driving something that is unusual and gets attention. I like something that someone said who builds the non-stretch Countach. If you see a Countach on the road it`s probably a replica because the people who own them either don`t drive them or have them in a museum or something. And that he always attracts a crowd, especially when he stops to get gas. Mission accomplished.

Mind telling me where this photo was taken?

Not too much progress to report right now. The 3800SC motor is coming along nicely and Andrew sent me this cell phone pic to post here for him. (STILL need to get him to register here and post his own stuff, but he does read this thread and others regularly)
The roof and front end has been sawed off the donor chassis and more parts are still arriving on a regular basis, (hinges, latches, etc., etc.). No start on lengthing the chassis yet, but I'll be certain to get lots of photos of that as it proceeds.
Dratts, thanks for the vote of confidence! This build WILL be finished, and possibly in record time once the motor swap and chassis work is completed. It would be great to correspond with you if we have questions later on...

randye, I`m not sure where that photo was taken. It is on a kitcar site that is in Alabama. They also make the Dee Low kit which is supposedly one of the best Diablo kits ever produced. Mike

Thanks. I only ask because the car trailer in the background belongs to a good friend of ours and is one that I frequently use. It's unmistakable. I was actually wondering if a certain individual that borrowed the trailer recently actually dragged it all the way to Texas and back... That trailer is a heavy monstrosity of a beast and normally just hauls a stock car racer around locally. I can't possibly imagine anyone dragging that thing from Tampa to Texas and back!
Edit to add: The guy using the trailer in that picture is actually the one that sold the Merci kit to my son, (and someone that's a PFF member and has posted in this thread already...) He was supposed to be picking up his new Reventon kit. I'll let him identify himself if he chooses, but there could possibly be yet another Lambo build thread starting here soon.

Hey guys I finally decided to join pennocks. My name is Drew I'm Randye son there has been a lot of work going on with the build the stretch is almost complete I will post pics and more info soon....
Seems as though my son doesn't like to show his progress....
The chassis is bare, the roof is cut off, the cradle is dropped and the old engine and trans has been sold. The 3800sc is still on the stand but is almost finished with it's rebuild.
The next big step is cutting and stretching the cradle and the rear of the donor chassis. It will be gaining about 10 inches. After that the process of fiting and mounting the bodywork should be able to start.

My son got the chassis stretched and ready to install the 3800SC and begin mounting the bodywork
and THEN........ he proposed to *HER* and they set a wedding date...(June 2012)
The kit, chassis and engine and trans are sold and gone to help pay for the wedding. I think he made a wise decision. Cars come and go, but our soon to be daughter in law is a real gem. Also proud of my son for making a tough decision and putting off his plans for a new toy in order to help make a dream come true for his bride. ------------------

Awesome for him, shame for PFF. LOL
I commend him for making the wise decision. I am sure he will have much more love from her than his money pit. Tell him congrats from the forum.
