Sorry to go off topic for a minute but, is a 10" really too much for the fiero? I JUST bought a slim 10" for a 0.6 cu/ft for sealed enclosure I am going to build for behind the seat. Just about to buy the materials and start building it but this has now got me worried.

You can turn down the gain on the amp, if the sub is too loud.

I used to have a pair of Blaupunkt 10" subs in low-profile boxes behind the seats in my Fiero. They were powered by a 2x75W RMS amp (with crossover and bass boost), with the gain turned down to about 50%. And even that was enough to blur your vision when the bass hit really hard. I ended up removing one of the subs, for my own sanity (with the same amp, still at 50% gain).

You don't need much Wattage to fill a Fiero cabin with sound. It's a relatively small area. So instead of quantity, focus in quality. If you can find a good-quality amplifier with about 50-75 Watts RMS, and with adjustable crossover and bass boost, you should be good to go.

Also, if you use a sealed box, you should always stuff it with fibrous material. This may sound funny, but the $5 pillows at WalMart will serve that purpose just fine.

Depends on the brand, but generally, I'd say yes. You're probably going to keep the gain on it turned down 99% of the time, and only turn it up every once in a while to show off.

Even an 8" sub is well more than enough to fill the Fiero cabin full of bass.

Ok so I picked up a sheet of 1/2" MDF today, so what kind of screws am I supposed to use? Also any more ideas on how I can make this box work with the sub I have? Also any specific brand glue?

I was thinking to stretch the 4x4 dimension to 4 3/4 and then use another layer of 1/2 MDF as a spacer over just the sub area. Any better ideas? Do you think adding another 3/4 inch to the box be a make a big difference leg room wise or should it still be ok?

I use drywall screws to hold the box together. They hold tight, and pull in flush.

It'll work but don't do to much depth.. 17 x 20 x 3 inside dimensions before cone displacement is .5999

I think you can go 18 wid but I may be mistaken. Going taller, maybe. I haven't measured it.

I like The gold wood screws myself. They have a little fatter diameter to them with the same thread. I worry on the 1/2 thickness screwing the screw into though. I think I read to pre-drill in this thread and is a must or you'll split the wood. Poly fill is great advise. It helps to absorb the pressure for the speaker and sound quality.

Well I started my sub enclosure today. How am I doing so far?

The only issue I have run into so far you can see in the second picture, with the 8" square the frame is just shy of 9" so I had to stretch the dimensions of the box a little bit. I am hoping that I can still somehow make this work. I am considering having a small bump out like Synthesis did when he was able to fit a 10" under the dash.

Or I was thinking that I could modify the air diverter box where the blue dingy thing mounts like shown in this picture, to hopefully gain the less then one inch that I need.

Being that this is my first time building a sub box or even hooking up a sub, I was hoping to just be able to build exactly what the diagram originally showed but with a square hole, I guess it is not going to be that simple. Any advice or thoughts? Thanks.
