So my brother has an 03 mustang gt and will be getting new cobra or saleen rims. What would anyone think of putting his stock rims on my 87 gt? I know that it might be considered unheard of by many because of putting ford rims on a gm car. But i personally think that they would look very good, has anyone ever done this? pictures of it? or even someone photoshop them on or something for me?
Thanks in advance for all of your responses and help. -Chandler.

Well the first issue you have to overcome is the fact that the Fiero bolt pattern is 5x100 vs the Mustang's bolt pattern of 5x114.3. The Mustangs wheels have pretty high offset so you could run an adapter like this: http://www.projectnissan.co...ory=57&idproduct=847 and they MIGHT fit, but I wouldn't recommend it at all.
If your car is an 84-87, you could switch to Pontiac 6000 uprights in the rear to give you a 5x114.3 bolt pattern, but I don't know what people do in the front to get the same thing.

I think the fact that the bolt pattern for those are probably 5x114.3 instead of the Fiero's 5x100 would cause a problem. But they would look cool, if they are the ones I'm thinking of. In fact I think I saw a build thread in The Construction Zone that was using some wheels of a Mustang. hmmmm, I'll look around.
edit: wow, that took me two minuts longer to type than Akursedx? fail.

ahhhh i did forget to take into consideration about the bolt pattern (stupid me!) that should have been the first thing i thought about haha but hose adapters dont look too bad, how do they work though? just bolt them onto the hubs? wouldnt that change the offset as well? that might prove to be a problem.

Did the Fiero use the same hubs front and rear? I read on another forum where an S-10 electric drive motor was installed in the front of a Fiero, that the hubs/wheel bearing assemblies were the same. They said the front hubs even had the splines for half-shafts. Anyone have input on this?

Wheel adapters are made to bolt onto the wheel pattern of whatever your car is, and then they have lug protrusions like a standard wheel. So for instance, the recessed holes in the adapter would be for 5x100. You would bolt that up like normal and torque it down, then place the wheel on and bolt it to the adapter.
There are apparent problems. One, you are adding unsprung weight to the car. Second, yes you will potentially change the offset but if anything you're just going to enlarge it and possibly the wheels are going to stick out from the sides of the car, thus looking silly. Finally, you can't just simply bolt the adapter and the wheel to the adapter and just run it. You have to take into account the hub bore of the Fiero and the bore of the Mustang wheels, and thus run the correct hubcentric rings to ensure the adapter sits flush on the Fiero hub. Failure to do this will see potential accelerated wear on the wheel components (particularly lugs).
I've ran 5x114 Mustang Cobra wheels on my Eclipse Spyder though and they looked good. You're best bet for your brother is to just sell them. There's a niche' market for Mustang wheels among their owners.

Theres dozens of aftermarket rims that ' look ' like Mustangs. Get some in the right bolt pattern. I NEVER recommend adapters on anything except old VWs that had a 'wide 5' pattern.

Just for clarification...Ford Mustang has 5x114.3mm pattern. Pontiac 6000 and other mid 80's GM intermediates have a 5x115mm pattern. This upright can be used with an S-10/S-15 front hub (2WD I believe) to give a 5x4.75" pattern.
The front on the 84-87 does not use a hub and will require fabrication/redrilling to change (not too difficult). 88 hub does not have a bolt in replacement but can be modified.
Right now on my 84, I have 88 Celebrity wagon uprights on the back using the 115mm bolt pattern. I can redrill these to 114.3mm if I choose. The front will be 88 Fiero using modified 88 hubs for the same pattern (modified similar to Bubbajoexxx).
