My steering wheel finally started the dreaded brown death ooze this week. So it is time to replace it. I am looking for pics to help narrow the choice. What is the best size? If you have a "D": shaped wheel, how do you like it?
Input please. I am looking to buy before the week is over... BTW, I have not ruled out an aftermarket OEM style that the Fiero Store sells, but want to see what others have in their cars first.

I had Don Lu at Dallas Custom Steering Wheel recover my stock GT wheel with 1/4" thinker padding and it has been great! His turn around is 3 days. I would say his work is on the higher end of the scale but worth every penny. BTW, don't forget to mention your Fiero Club membership discount (10%)
Side by side with the factory wheel Here are the original wheel and my newly recovered wheel side by side
Here is the thickness compared (sorry for the poor image but I had to use my phone as my cameras were all packed away)
And an installed shot (partial view much?)
Do they do killer work or what?

Thanks for the link!

That's actually pretty amazing. That looks really good. I'm not going to even inquire as to the cost because I know it was a pretty penny That type of work isn't cheap.

Very nice. How much does that usually run for if you don't mind me asking?

The releathered wheel looks amazing. for the job well done.
My Grant wheel. I modified the horn button using the original GT emblem. It is one inch smaller in diameter than the stocker wheel. I also used the Fiero hub, and redrilled it to fit the Grant wheel. I really did not like the quality of the aftermarket adapter. Having a wheel mounted solidly onto the column was important. Just something to reference. The Grant adapters are rather flimsey, and bend under any stress.

I had to do a new wheel for the dash swap, so I just made a new air bag/horn buton cover. This one is from a 08 Malibu bolted to an 06 Monte Carlo columb.
I did not see you say it needs to bolt to the stock Fiero columb;

Tony I really like that Grant wheel, I just wish it wasn't so small. The stock wheel is already on the small side. I'm in the same boat as the OP, my stock GT wheel is starting to ooz in one spot so its only a matter of time before it becomes a mess.

BTW, I'll send my car to you so you can swap in a dash and steering column to match that wheel...
All kidding aside, your dash is sweet!. I only wish I had that sort of talent and time.

Your wheel looks pretty good... You'll have to show me how you made the horn button and the adapter plate...
Here is my wheel... Grant of course... Im still useing the adapter it came with, however it push's the wheel to far for it to be comfortable, maybe for someone alittle taller it would be fine...

I will be waiting for the pics, I really want to see how the two-tone looks. I'm working on a two-tone theme, white and black. I'm going to make all of the gray either black or white.
Buy the way, what colors did you go with?

The one thing i hate is steering hubs as they push the steering wheel too far back. The good news with a fiero is you do not need a hub with many steering wheels. In particular sparco as it has a larger center hole and you only need to drill a few holes to line it up. The stock horn can be mounted over the center to give a modern stock look.

I really dig when someone modifys a wheel to fit with stock hub and modify a fiero emblem to fit

Thank you.
A few more pics. I dremeled and exactoed the Grant center button to take the stock GT emblem. The horn button works off of the stock pieces. Sorry, no really detailed pics of that. The mounting was done by redrilling the Grant wheel center to accept the 6 bolts of the stocker. Measuring, measuring, measuring, then drilling. The adapter that came with the Grant wheel would actually flex when the wheel was turned. Only slightly noticeable, but there. Also, my wingspan is four inches longer than my body. Having the wheel so close to me was annoying, and within several drives, I knew it was not going to work. My back hurt after from the change in reach.
I wanted to add that my GT wheel was in excellent condition. Dogcreek redid his car with powersteering, and went with a tap shift in his LS4 modded 86 GT. The Grant wheel that he just bought wasn't going to work, and I acquired it for free. I like the smaller diameter very much. It fits my style of driving, and allows my long legs more breating room during spirited driving. My GT wheel went to Aaron Koch. We do that here in the Inland Northwest.

Ok, I'll bite. How much? That's exactly what I need. I have a spare GT wheel in desparate need of recovering and the one in my car has just started leaking chocolate this summer, so it's not going to last much longer.

For those asking how much, the best bet is to contact him for an estimate, because your price might vary depending on what you want. I sent mine off this afternoon and the price quoted for me is just north of 250.00. Is it cheap? - nope, but I am getting just what I want in a stock looking wheel.

Grant makes a Billet aluminum adapter in polished or black powder coated that is about 1.25" shorter than thier standard steel adapter. I have used them on 3 Fiero's and my Monte Carlo They work great and are plenty tough enough.
