Jonathon, I owe you an apology. When I saw your name, I went back and looked at my pm's and looked for who I bought the gas tank from. You and I had an pm exchange about parts, and your pm was right below the one I got from the guy I bought the tank from. I looked at the title and didn't follow over to the name correctly, and mistakenly saw your name on his pm. My sincerest apologies to you and everyone else for the misrepresentation. The person that sold me a "88" tank's info is below.
----- Message Forwarded from 88 Racer ----- I have an 88 gas tank in excellent shape, including fuel pump and float for sale.

My sincerest apologies to you and everyone else for the misrepresentation.
You may want to put this in your original post too... in case the reader never makes it to page 2.
as for the badges... if 1 of 4 was not as described, it seems like a credit issued for the 1 would be a satisfactory resolution. I would never infer that 'badges' or 'them' meant a backing plate only.
Too bad such a small thing caused so much angst. I totally understand though... it would bug me to no end also...

Actually i disagree. If a deal is made and the end result is one of the participants is clearly unhappy, then the error being corrected speaks volumes for the character of the person who fixes it and what can be expected with future deals. This also works in just the opposite way if that person simply dismisses the problem with an oh well attitude. I know I would think twice about buying from that person. Also the OP is somewhat at fault if pictures were offered but refused, would have avoided this whole thing. At the least this sounds like a lesson learned for the buyer, ask lots of questions and always ask for pictures. Be clear on what you want and are getting before sending payment. At the most the seller could show he’s a stand up guy and throw the buyer a couple bucks, end it all and move on. again, just my opinion. Also if it helps i think i have a crappy GT badge somewhere and if the OP were to say...share his secret project with me in a PM i might just send it to him ...assuming i can find it.

always get pictures then there is no question. No unexpected suprises.
At work I deal with this all the time. You sent me what I asked for not what you normally do or not what I wanted. If someone is asking for 4 badges and they don't care what the condition is as long as the mounting plate is there, one could make the assumption that all you really care about is the mounting base.
Next time get pics, solves all communication issues.

I really had no need for the pics. I requested badges. He offered badges. He sent three badges. He knows what badges are. I wasn't concerned with the condition of the badges. In fact, my actual PM to him about the pictures and quality of the pieces was that "any color any script" was fine. Notice I told him "any script" instead of "any or no script". The fourth one obviously didn't have any script on it. If the word "badges" all over my Mall thread and within our PMs wasn't a big enough clue, the reference to script should have wiped out any doubt about what I expected.
Like someone said, he knew and chose to be a rip-off artist.
He sent me another PM. Nothing about resolving this issue. He just wanted to rub it in my face that he was still making sales here. What a guy!

I agree Dennis but unlike Lloyde this is not my life. I know what is right and wrong. That is good enough for me. What will it solve if I spend countless hours proving I am right? Is that going to win over the people that have already posted and made up there mind. Probably not.
Probably wouldn't take any more time than your kicking the bucket down the road is taking.

...Cold day in hell before I buy anything from him.

Honestly, it's pretty hard to say what shining a little light on what really happened would do but, I can also honestly say that taking the approach of doing nothing doesn't represent you well to potential buyers of the future. Do what you will but, based on what I've read in this thread so far, I'm not likely to be one of those potential buyers of anything from you.
I'm not saying you're guilty of anything but, it does appear to be a pretty clear request (to me) and had I received three badges and the backing plate when I wanted four badges, I'd also be a less than satisfied customer. I've got no dog in this fight nor, do I want to but, taking the path you're on does not help your case.

I wasn't going to post anything else after I screwed up like I did, BUT here is one thing to consider...
I got a pm from John316 saying he never sold me a gas tank. After I realized I made a mistake, I pm'd him back apologizing and saying I made it right in the thread. He responded by telling me not to worry about it or go to the effort. I had apologized and he knew that he hadn't done anything to me, and that was enough for him. Some people are like that. Not taking sides, just saying it really looks like he's not the type to participate in something just to prove his side.

So what does that prove? It doesn't necessarily mean he's got nothing to hide.
It's becoming increasingly apparent that many PFF members will no longer trust this guy. If he doesn't care that people think less of him (for refusing to shed a little light on the situation), I suppose that's his choice. Seems to me to be a rather poor choice, but...

Not saying it absolves him, just saying he may just be the type that won't go out of his way to prove anything. I think he's making an error in judgment by not doing so, especially if he is still sending pm's about ability to sell parts on the forum. That won't last long if he doesn't try to save face.

Not to worry, I knew what you meant.
His actions (or lack of action) comes across to me as a certain smug arrogance. Combine that with his user name, and perhaps he believes he's too special to have to explain himself.

I'm disappointed that John isn't displaying his side here. After the great transactions I had with him, this doesn't sound like his kind of selling practices. But I still stand by my word that he is a great seller based off my experience with him.
