Starting the New Year off with a bang! Refurb of The Joel Project 7 & 8 Jan 2012 at Whodeanie Customs!!!!!
I can't give up on this one. What it represents is too important to me. As you know I started a rebuild on a red 84 SE with grey interior and every option known to man on it. The car was being done for a local teen whose family has fallen on hard times. Well, their times have gotten worse and even though the parents are working now their house is being foreclosed. The bank agent suggested that I take the car back until the whole ordeal is over so that the bank can't touch it. We brought it back to my house and then up to Dean's. There were some problems that with the car that were above my skill level so Dean and crew are stepping in. The car is up at the shop along with a load of new items and some used stuff as well. Here are the former links that spell out some detail:
We are looking to see if anyone wants to head to the shop and assist in the resurrection. I know that some have volunteered so I am making one consolidated spot for info and contact. Dean and crew are putting in a 2.8 to give it a bit more pep. They may even have that done before we get there. I'll be up there teh 6th, 7th and 8th. I think with its current state and if we get a good crowd we should be able to complete it minus paint that weekend. So who is up for the rebuild????? Also, if you would like to donate parts and are coming up please bring what you have that can be used on an 84. Donated parts from non-attendees will need to be sent to Dean's shop. Dean should be posting a list of needed part shere soon.

John, Here's a bump for the cause. Hopefully, between Dean and his crew, yourself and any other volunteers, it'll get done. Sorry that I can't attend. Just visiting Dean's shop was an experience I really enjoyed. Good luck with the project and here's a bump back to the top.

Well the cheer schedule is clear... so I dont' see why I can't come to lend a hand. Everyone pray they don't call a mandatory Saturday practice. If so, I might be only able to do partial days.

I haven't seen a "parts needed" list, yet. The reason I mention that now, is that if anyone LOCAL (no long distance travel) wants to donate a needed part that is too big for them to get to Dean's, and have no other method, I can probably pick it up and get it there, since I have a truck. You'll need to help load and probably unload if it's heavy, or if there's a bunch of it.
Let me know anytime between now and then. We don't need to wait until that weekend.

I'm with Raydar on offering to haul. If you want to take the West side I'll take the East side. I mentioned this at our last meeting and I'll bring it up again Saturday at the Christmas Party. There were a number of our folks that said they'd participate. Hurry up with that need list.

we have looked over the car and started a list. most of what it needs we already have here in shop or came in with the car. I will be posting up the list by monday of the parts we still need. for now I could use an engine harness for a 6 cyl. for the swap ASAP! we plan on doing the swap prior to the weekend so Aaron can get it wired without 50 people in the way, he is funny like that
I do know it will need......
cradle mounts antifrezze oil filters motor and trans mounts calipers of rebuild kits roters would be good we have SS lines already the ebrake has issues be not sure what yet. the body and inside are in fair shape but will need a bit of work.
I will get it on the lift today to see what else it will need.
we have all the tools here that will be needed as well as a tone of parts I will donate to the car so the bigest thing will be extra hands and any goodies you might like to add to the car for a great cause. I am also working with a paint shop to see if we can get it painted here as well if we can do the prep I have a booth we can get and I can spray it. D.

I would love to come down but having recently joined the ranks of the unemployed, I probably won't be able. That said, I have a brand new, complete set of 2.8/auto mounts that I will be happy to donate. I'll see what else I can scrounge up from the garage......in the meantime, could someone send me the shipping address of Dean's shop?

I have a new solid motor mount that would not work for me due to the bolt holes not lining up... part cost less then the shipping so no sense returning... maybe it will work for this car? Have to get the part number for dean to check
Part number... AutoExtra 2472/Anchor 2472

I will be there the night prior to see what all I can get done. I will post up the address for a close hotel. I don't mind sharing a room with a few Fiero buds to keep costs down!
Unfortunately, I have drill that weekend, but I would love to donate any parts I may have for it. Please get a total list of things wanted or needed for the car and I would be glad to help.

Putting a gas preasure washer in the van to drop off at your house.
Your wife slipped me $5 last night. She said, "John needs more things to do around the house before the big move".
BTW i need a 20' by 40' garage built on my Milton property. then you can put your Fieros there for us to play with when we come home on leave. We could even run plumbing and A/C it could be our home away from family.

Would you be interested in an auto dimming rearview mirror with a compass? I have one from my old car that looks and works great. Two wires to hook up and done. If you would like it, PM me an address and it's yours. I think it would be a nice semi-modern touch for the car.

Speak to Gail (The manager)...she will give you a special rate of $62.10 plus tax and it includes complementary breakfast. My total for two nights was 141.60 so it should be $70.80 per night including tax.

By AC Hard lines, I assume you mean the ones that run under the car? If ones from a Formula will work, I have it covered. I have a used Fiero Store Poly dog bone I can bring. I have the interior carpet covered (it is gray, right?)
I will have to double check the following when I get home, but I should be able to cover: 6 cyl housing and cap (I assume you mean the thermostat housing). Trunk carpet Trunk seal

That will probably work well for the interior carpet that I am bringing too. How is the insulation under the carpet? I am hoping we don't need that also. If anyone has some, please pack it.
