Wish I could!! Talked to the deputy again last evening a learned that they were never able to locate the cow. Said they tracked it back up the side of the road but the tracks faded out. The adjacent land owner was supposed to go out and check his cows yesterday but was never heard from. I imagine that cow might be in his freezer now considering the possible liabilities. I also found out that there was a gentleman that hit one in same area last year while riding his motorcycle. Gonna take a break now. Hard to see with one eye swollen mostly closed and my head hurts. I am now officially retired from my current job.....Look out Wal-Mart here I come (part-time)
Thank y'all again

Glad you are ok, I know from being in several accidents your body takes over. You probably just did what you would have normally done, pulled the handle then your body gave you what you needed to get out. Sorry about the car, if you were closer I would hook you up with a frame.

Wow... You are one lucky dude... Hope you make a full and speedy recovery...
Sorry to say, but that cow is long gone. The owner most likly has it all baged-up in his freezer... You will have to wait a few months till the hospital gets a report of a person eating windshield glass & silver plastic from there burger...

The roof substructure is crushed. Its totalled to an insurance co. I wouldnt try to fix it. Looks like a great parts car or kit car start to me. By the way the drivers door fits, it looks like the whole car is bent down in the middle. The roof structure ordinarily gives most of the support.

I agree. It's beyond my capabilities. The passenger door is pulled away from the B pillar at the top also so either the B pillar is pushed back or the frame is damaged. Just got back from looking at the accident scene and it appears that I carried the cow on the car for nearly an 1/8 mile to where I went off the road and stopped....just short of a deep creek culvert. I don't remember any part of that.

Can the owner of the cow be considered negligent for having the beast out at night?... might that person/ranch not be responsible for your medical expenses and replacement car?
in some cases you are liable for the cattle and have to pay for the cow, (loss of revenue)
But since the cow left the scene of the accident, you should be allright on that
WOW! amazing. Glad to see you are still with us! I had a almost simmular incident about 5yrs ago with my 91 Trans Am GTA with a cow as well. I was doing 70mph but was daylight and seen it so I never hit it. just drove around it and to the owners place !/4 mile away and told him his cattle are loose. But for sure glad to hear your ok. Get well soon and hope you plan on getting another Fiero.

besides it should "buff right out"
Since it was on a state hwy and not a FM (farm/Market) road I'm not liable for the cow. But proving negligence on the cow's owner it tough. Especially with no dead cow. When I was back there yesterday there was a small dozer working the pasture next to where it happened. They were pushing trees into a large burning pile. Now I'm wondering what was in that burning pile.
Had to go try to get my glasses replaced yesterday and that is costing $200+, the tow charges were $356, today I have to go back to the Dr. because I'm getting small pieces of glass out of my left ear, losing 3 to 4 days of work, and I can barely see out of my left eye this morning.
By the way... can I borrow your buffer...

Glad to read you're okay and that you had a sun roof top.
That's the money question? Wish I knew. Had to go to 2 docs yesterday to get several slivers of glass "vacuumed"/extracted out of my left ear. Only one piece was imbedded, but it was way down in there. This morning the black eye and the rest of my facial swelling seem to be fading a little, the cuts are healing nicely. Still have head and neck aches when I wake up in the morning. The deductibles and co-pays are getting expensive though

wow..... just saw the post. Glad you are doing well. Hope to see you at the next meeting. What a story to tell.
Thanks. I should be there. Won't be much story though.. I can't remember most of it. I remember seeing the cow and then the next thing is off the wrong shoulder of the road standing-leaning on the car. Based on when I left home and the time of the 911 call I was there about 15 minutes before anyone (the 2 angels) came by. That's all a blank

Was the accident covered by the local news stations? You should sell the story to T.V. shows like "Amazing Crashes" or something along those lines. Who knows you might be able to recovers some funds along the way? If your insurance is "AllState or "State Farm" you might be able to get them to air your case in a commercial? Also, if there's a local business in town that hates anything that isn't American made you might be able to sell the wrecked Fiero to them? I'm just thinking outside the box here, but you get the idea.

No news coverage. Not even the local weekly paper that is usually begging for news. I did take out an ad in it to thank the responders and to get the "angels" to call so I can thank them. I live 20miles from the nearest radio station and even further from TV so no interest there. Never heard of "Amazing Crashes"! Will have to see what's out there. Insurance is USAA and they don't have much in the line of fancy commercials. lol A nearby Fiero connoisseur is going to purchase the remains of the Fiero. Right now I just want it out of the driveway. lol

Several types of shows regarding "crashes” air on the Speed Channel and other cable networks. Too bad that the local radio station is too lazy enough to broadcast the incident. If you owned a different car they'd be all over the story I bet. LOL. If anything, your story demonstrates that a Fiero can hold it's own in a crash. You should hold on to the pictures and have them laminated if somebody should ever speak the words, "Fieros aren't safe."

Wow, glad you made it out alive! A long time ago my Grandad took out a big old Black Angus on a dark, country road with a '64 Chrysler uber-station wagon and damn near totaled it.
Looking at the damage makes me glad I sold my T-Top. All I did with that car is to think about how to make the roof safe from a windshield frame coming in. I doubt the sunroof helped the integrity, but as sexy as t-top cars are, I'd suggest the outcome would have been in a slower mode of transportation.

Dave, how ya feeling? nothing lingering or new I hope?
A lot better now. Still have a sore spot above my left temple but the large black eye finally faded away yesterday. The ENT specialist yesterday said my nose is healing good and the lacerations in my left ear canal have healed. (had to go get several pieces of glass vacuumed/flushed out). My left eye is a little slow yet, but hopefully it will fully recover now that I have new specs. \Waiting on Wal-Mart (McKinney) to call me for orientation. Gonna become a tuck unload-er part time in the evenings.
Got the chopper bill $22,259.00. Haven't heard from the ER or the local ambulance yet. Gonna need a lot of part time work

I thank the good lord that you're ok. Car's are replaceable, but you are not. Hopefully your insurance company will give you a fair settlement.
I doubt the good lord had much to do with you surviving... Otherwise he would also be there 'intervening' when hundreds of other equally innocent people die in car crashes every day.
It just left for it's new home: Stephen got in and I guess it was the same way that I must have got out of it. I still don't remember. Here he is driving it up onto the trailer. edit: Little hard to steer since the steering wheel was bent and hitting the broken dash.

There will be no restoring the car as it took one hell of a hit....I just happen to have a twin 86 SE but in red that needs an engine and trans so this will be the donor. Then the interior will be used in an 84 that I picked up from MaryJane that will be my oldest sons car.....For now I am going to cut the crushed in top off and clean it out so I can interior out with ease...

Wow don't know how I missed this. Glad your ok... Hows the cow? I have family in Rowlett and will be there after the HRPT in June.
Anyway glad your ok.
The cow was "never found"!. It managed to walk away and couldn't be located in the night (black cow at 2-3AM). All that was found on the road was a patch of skin and the hair, small chunks of skin, and cow sh.... Crap on the car. Don't imagine that the nearby rancher wanted to have to pay for the air ambulance, ground ambulance, ER and my car. Let us know when you are down in this area. We should have some club events going on in June.
