Not so much the car as me! I am putting the 88 back together after swapping in a new tranny and now I've got flu so everything is on hold until I can walk without falling over or running out of breath after 5 minutes of activity.
stripped out a LIM bolt hole now on the other one that protrudes all the way through the mani. time to get a longer allen headed bolt from ace. hardend of course...

My left rear brake caliper did not survive being bottomed out last weekend for new pads. It's now leaking. A lot. So it's going to need another rear caliper.
These rear calipers on the 88's are terrible. Seems that I am always replacing them due to leaks. I've never caliper failure rates like this on any other car I have owned. If it isn't the design, then it is shoddy re-manufacture jobs.
Thinking of just putting the car away for the winter now too. I don't have much driving season left anyway, would have to order calipers (none locally) and hope the ones I get are ok.

Fierostore is your best bet. They're rebuilt the right way. Anywhere else is too expensive and not rebuilt right.
Blew an exhaust manifold gasket this morning on the way to bowling. Heard this ticking sound when I mash on the gas uphills. This happened at 78,103 miles. 86 / 2.8 4spd.
I currently have a pair of replacement manifolds already ported and they are being welded for reinforcement. Should have them back soon. So I'll get her up on ramps and start P=Blasting things. Hope nothing snaps.

drove the car last night to get the HO2 and the wideband HO2 nice and HOT. well i got a code 13 and code 51. HO2 is acting up. i think it could be a connection at the ECM when i had a narrow band hooked up. or one of the connectors in line is loose. or my HO2 is dead. troubleshooting time. and the ecm code was only when i plugged my APU1 in and ran it as an emulator. wtf is going on!?!?
Rebuilt my headlight motors about a month ago. Today the passenger side started doing the same thing it was before the rebuild, motor wont stop running. Should've used Rodney's gear I guess...trying to save a few $$.

Filled the tank up with gas this morning, and everything was fine... took her back out later today, and there's a gas leak somewhere near the water pump belt most likely. Not fun.
Looks like it's time to start shopping for that LS4 and F40 trans to swap in.

The D/S door needs new pins/bushings and I haven't bothered to replace them yet. With that said, I moved my GT out to cover it up so I can put the SE in the garage and the door didn't shut all of the way. Darn dome light stayed on since Thursday......battery's dead. Now I get to jump it. I'll be ordering the things I need very soon.
How hard are they to swap out?

Well, I think there might be a cracked head or blown gasket too. Had some overheating and water loss problems recently, but seemed to be running ok after I topped her off with water, until today. Didn't overheat, but now I've got the fuel leak too. The O2 sensor was white as a ghost when I changed it out, after having the ECM trip the sensor code. Ran a bit better with the new one, but then started the overheating act. Been wanting to do the swap for a while, and now that I have a garage, and a few excuses to get started on doing so, it seems like a good time to start.
Will have to pick up a few things and start tearing her down soon, and find out where exactly the gas leak is.

And the parts collection has begun. Just took delivery of the F40-MT2 trans. Got an LS2 intake last week. Need to find a good LS4 at a reasonable price, a throttle body, and electronics. This should be fun.
blew the FP fuse on the way to the bar sat night. i started troubleshooting and i over thought the situation. determined at the same time my FPR is **** . doesnt hold pressure that well. bought AAA Premium while getting hammered. was being anti social and pretty much blew off a girl my friend had set up for me to meet. determinied the next day tha tit was the freaking fuse the whole time. 3500 LX9 Fiero GT - 1, Mike - 0. my fiero out smarted me.

Car started missing badly last on Friday, the 5th of Feb. I limped it to work, checked for spark and found that the car ran the same only with number 3 spark plug disabled.
I pulled #3 plug and found the ground bent down to touch the electrode. I repoistioned, re-gapped, re-inserted and fired it up. She purred like a kitten.
I took off for home that evening, got 15 miles down the road and it started to miss again. Then it started to miss like never before and I immediately lost power. Car sputtered and gagged its way to the shoulder where it died as soon as I stopped.
I trailered it back home, pulled #3 plug again and found the plug mangled...again. I scoped the cylinder and in addition to the top of my piston looking like the pock-marked surface of the moon, it also resembled the below picture.
The dark spots represent nothing. I mean, there is nothing where the dark spots are. There should be piston there, but there isn't. I also saw that my oil dipstick was pushed out of the dipstuck tube about three inches.
I'll be posting in the mall in about 20 seconds, looking for a new 2.5L....

My 2.0 turbo swap is complete...... But everytime I check the coolant reservoir it's empty whether I've driven/started the car or not. Mysterious part is there are no puddles on the driveway. Hmmmmmmmm.

nothing to day, I drove it to work. It's on its 5th engine, 2.5, 3.0, 3.8, 5.7, 5.0 ( 305 ) and I am working on the 5.7 to go back in. I have a budy that has a fiero. His car has been hit buy lighting 2 times, a 18 wheeler ( that put him in to the center barreir, he has had it float out of this drive way 2 times, He has floated it while he was driving it 2 times, he has replaced the engine 3 times, the body entirely 2 times, 3 trans. I keep telling him that GOD just doesn't want him to drive that car! He was a PJ in the AF. He's tuff, keeps coming back for more.
My Fiero has been down for a couple weeks. Haven't had time to diagnose it till today,no start with no fuel pump turn on (a couple weeks after a fuel pump upgrade). Turns out the new pump wants more voltage than the old wiring wants to give it,so it melted the pin on the relay.
Thought this might happen, hoping it would be okay till I got the TGP engine/harness completed and just build a new pump circuit. Guess I'll be doing it now. Plan to keep all the wiring/relay's and fuses right there by the battery location (where my DIS and computer will be located with the TGP engine) for easier future diagnosis.
Will begin the new FP harness as soon as I finish my brother in laws fuel pump repair today.(heated shop) Been too cold here past few weeks to do anything outside.(car is in driveway.)
Well.....on Wednesday I crashed into a guardrail when I hit black ice on a downhill intersection attempting to turn left. Moved front subframe back ~4 inches, front of wheelwell ~1.5 inches closer to the tire. Front bumper and pass. fender are FUBAR. Working on turn signal and getting new marker trim, but I'll be darned if all the yard has is 2 '84's and an '86. Too OCD to have square trim mixed with roundy trim. Then it's frame time......
Our school district was the ONLY one in Mid-Michigan to not have a snow day on Wednesday. This is why we should have. Screw the Man.

Was this over by the Airport/Sturgeon intersection? I lived in Midland for a while, and that intersection (turning onto Airport heading west) is one of the slipperiest intersections I've ever been on.

the tuner told me it has some valve train noise. i thought it was normal but went to go see. it was not a normal valve train noise. he said sounds like a sticking lifter or something. maybe needs new fresh thicker oil.
had a bubble in it, hes gonna burp it.
has a vac leak. no way my cam can get 5" of vac. im guessing the UIM gasket. nothing else has been taken off. the lines all seem good.
gonna pay him to do the repairs since im not as experienced. never rebuilt an engine or pieced one together. i do electrical. thats all i understand.
well my carb on the 454 **** out on me an The starter started to bounce around when you try an start the car so I got to make a brakcet to brace it. an I just got a quadra junk carb today so all my holley carbs are going in the trash. Hopfully nothing else goes wrong cause its just killing me right now.
The snow on the roads, finally melted enough, to take it for a cruise on Sunday. Haven't driven the Fiero since the last week of November. I started it up once in January to charge the battery, on a nice warm Sunday, but never drove it in the snowy streets.
Drove it about 6 miles to one of our Wal-Marts, to buy some groceries, came out to start the car, and it just sputtered and coughed, and refused to start. Never has done that before in the 2 years I've owned it. Always starts on the first spin.
Called my best buddy, who lives about 13 blocks away, who happens to be the shop foreman mechanic at a local Pontiac dealership, he pokes his head under the decklid, as I turned it over. Fiddles with the EGR valve, and it started. It was stuck open, and sucking too many exaust fumes into the intake, and not letting it start. He says it's probably due to the half tank of fuel having too much condensation, and a fresh tank of gas should cure it.
Going to get a bottle of StaBil fuel additive tomorrow, on my day off, just to make sure things are good to go, if spring ever gets here. No more driving for a while, it rained / froze / snowed 2 inches again last night, so back to the 4 wheel drive for a while. The Fiero can wait for better weather, for now.

yesterday i put new shocks, the car sits higher. 87 gt and the front shocks where never changed.29, 570 miles on the car and the struts are next.garage kept car, rubber parts look good. my other problem is if i put it in gear the car just takes off without letting the clutch out. something is broke and all the parts are on order. i get to the red light, put it in neutral, stop at light. when it turns green and people move in front of me.push clutch in, put it in gear and go. pain in the butt for now but the parts come tomorow.i own another car to drive untill i get this car driveable.i went from a watch collector to driving a fiero gt/i hope not money pit. i love this car.
