I try to be as fair as possible. I do have overhead to pay for. My rates are based on $50.00 per real hour...not flat rate. Only for the Fiero projects. I make my money on my German cars....double that on flat rate. Dave

Dave: Your labor costs are very fair and you do excellent work, but you might want to mention that labor costs apply only for a series II installation. The series III that I completed took something like 80-100 hours to complete but we did add struts, cradle bushings, brakes, low mount alternator fab, 3.4 pulley, dog bone fab, full A/C retrofit and many other adaptations. Prospective customers should know that parts on one of these swaps could run the total cost up to $8-$10K .

Dennis, I agree with you, but if we add on suspension work or anything past the norm (ie camshaft upgrade), I charge the $50.00 per hour. Sabooo's was a special case and I didn't bill for about 20 of the extra hours that I spent on his car. I'm not a clock watcher. He also was a very good customer and letting me get it done around my German car schedule. One hand washes the other. One thing I want to mention, I don't mind fabricating wiring harness for the "do it yourselfers". I do require the car to be at my shop. For the quality I try to give with each harness, I can't imagine trying to do it without having the actual car in front of me....there are too many variables and I don't like to make the wires "extra long" to allow for that. I need about 4-5 days to do a wiring job. Dave

There was talk of a mazda rotory swap on the first page here. I've actually done some research in to that and discovered that if you wanted to used the turbo 20B rotory motor it is a direct bolt up to the 6 spd fwd trans that is used in the new mazda speed 3. No i'm not a mazda guru but alot of my friends here are and they've been trying to talk me into doing a rotory fiero for a couple of years now. I might just take on the challenge

rotary swap wouldn't be too hard to do IMO. If done right, I think it would be a easy low 9 second Fiero. The only thing holding be back is time. The shop across the street from mine does only rotary work. Their cars are in the 7's and 8's. Dave

I just wanted to say that I agree on the fair cost. For all of the custom work Dave and his team are doing for me, I think I'm getting a killer deal vs. anyone else who will (professionally) do this kind of design, fab, etc. I don't know how much other Fiero shops charge for work, but I think they'd be hard pressed to beat the professionalism, customer service, and quality of work Dave does for what he charges.
Of course the ultimate test will be upon getting my car back, but I'm very involved in what's being done so I have no doubt that I'll approve.
Visit the build thread in my sig. for more.

The projects page on my website has been uploaded. Most of the projects are uploaded as of today. I'll still update more as I go, but it is a time consuming process...be patient please. Dave

I received a few pm's about the projects on the projects page of the website. I am not done updating the projects. I have about 150 pics from each one loaded on my external hard drive. I need to finish going through the pics and I'll hopefully have a nice page made for each project. (looking at it, Sabooo's page looks more like an advertisement...I will change that to focus more on the project itself). Little by little, they will get done. More importantly are the actual swaps Dave

Thanks, Dave. I also wouldn't mind you advertising the work you're doing for me, a bit more on the custom side of things (Now that L67 swaps are 'standard' I guess, heh)
Okay, back to Camaro Emergency #1,437 (I'm renting a car to get to work. That gets 'spensive QUICK)

Had another series II complete engine, wiring, and pcm show up at the shop late yesterday. I purchased this without the supercharger because I buy them seperately, disassemble, port and reassemble with a new coupler. I keep a few in stock ready to go. Another project begins at the Haus.

Do you think you will ever do a 3.6 DI swap with either a 5 or 6-speed manual? That is my dream swap for my car.
Anything is possible. We'll have to wait and see.

Those pics are your engine. All parts have been ordered. I want to try something new and cool on this swap....I'll save the surprise for you at the end...I'm sure you'll like it. Other than that, I've been playing with some colors today to try to get the "hue" you are looking for. Dave

Ok, here is what is going on at the Haus.... The projects we are currently working on are:
Alltrbo's custom turbo TGP. Mostly waiting on parts to return from Jet-Hot at this time.
Vince's Series II 3800s/c 5 speed with a nice goodie list. We expct to see 315whp and a show quality setup with what we are doing.
Dave D's Series III 3800s/c with slight mods....and a show quality setup.
....and of course, my own projects that always seem to be on hold...lol. I'm planning on swapping out the SBC/Weber setup and install another eight cylinder setup with a 6 speed. This may not happen until next year, though. I also have a big announcement to make within the next two months. Anyway, here are the pics from the "kitchen" at my shop.
And Dave, your baby is at home here until this Spring with the rest of the Fiero gang......

Here are some pics of Vince's Series II setup that we are working on.....
I disassembled the engine down to the long block to inspect for wear or neglect. This also gives me the chance to put some fresh gaskets and seals on the engine. I don't believe a fresh swap that leaves my shop should leak anything. I hope the blue color is up to your spec Vince, I matched it as best as I could and mixed some interesting colors to get that mix. Six coats of a translucent blue with three coats of clear on top.
Here is some of the goodies from ZZP
New water pump.
oil pan thoroughly cleaned out and oil sump removed and cleaned as well.
Ryan making a (few) set(s) of custom powerlogs to keep the exhaust routed to the stock location and this will keep the KR and underhood temps down. I noticed on my personal car that in the summer I could "feel" the exhaust on my back. These will be coated by Jet-Hot and keep the temps at a more desirable range. These logs are also designed to flow better than the ZZP logs and won't have the cracking issues that they have had.
A set of the aluminum roller rockers installed.
Tomorrow, I plan on spending 15 hours at the Haus getting this one ready.....every part is in stock and I have my case of energy drinks to keep me going.
Dave

Oh shoot, I think I just messed myself! That is awsome, Dave. And I'm guessing that the pictures don't do the color justice. I wait in giddy, school-girl anticipation for what comes next!
By the way, when you get around to updating the Haus site, you can name the build Project Missing Piece.
[This message has been edited by vrossiter (edited 03-08-2010).]
Custom powerlogs are being fitted. They will be sent to Jet-Hot to be ceramic coated on the inside and out. They are just tacked with the TIG welder at this point. Also, this is my spare Getrag and not Vince's transmission in the pics. We needed to be sure of clearances.
Filled the coolant passages and the front heater hose fitting.
Ported the supercharger in Haus...Inlet to 75mm, raised the roof, and outlet just enlarged the triangle outlet.
The engine almost assembled.....returnless fuel logs, Northstar throttle body, 3.4 pulley (I have a 3.25 pulley in stock we may wind up using, but we'll see later). I do need to shorten the AN hose that ZZP provided....way too long, but better long than short.
I don't know if I can break out the drool smilie enough for this! Looks great and the pics don't do the color justice! It's perfect. I just got your message, I'll call 1st thing tomorrow. Vince

It is a Mera that I am doing some repair work. Although, I do work on Ferrari's as well. Dave
I own a Mera that I would like to do the 3.6 DI swap with a manual gearbox on. I like the way these engines push around a 1000 lb heavier Camaro. It would be great in a Fiero and the exhaust note would be right for a Mera. Also, the engine looks like it will fit well in the compartment.

Actually, we are running three sets right now. After that, I believe Ryan will be fabricating and selling them. Dave
Yes after these three sets are done I plan on offering them as a kit for sale...will also consider any other designs you can dream up! I always like a new challenge ( like the midtrbo set up)
