yeah, I'm giving up a six figure income to spend time with my family. I sold my Mercedes and I'm going to have to humble some things down, but the freedom will be so worth the trade. Joey and the kids are really looking forward to it. Dave

Hey Dave, I hope you're feeling better. Any updates?
Oh, as I explained before, I think your move is a very wise one. Stress from a hateful area can take you out early. You deserve a break, and even retirement sounds deserved at this point. You've worked very hard non-stop to make a lot of customers happy (I'm one).

Yeah I second ace5514's thoughts on this. I was hoping Dave would be able to do a 4.9L + F40 trans swap in one of my '88 Fieros. Oh well, maybe I'll just have to drive down to see him once he sets up his new shop down south.

I guess the point is no matter where you go your gonna have fiero nuts that would love to work with ya. Time with the family is definitely important. As Aaron said "i may never be wealthy but my kid(s) Will have a dad around".
I have a job i like (not love) that pays the bills (barely) but my son gets at least a few hours with me every day. Now if i did what i really wanted to do with my life i wouldn't see my family nearly as much. it's a trade off really. Maybe when my son gets older i'll open up another custom shop... we shall see.
Good luck to you Dave. Hope it works out.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm feeling 100% again and the work is getting cranked out again as usual. Steven, I'll send you an email later to touch base with you. Dave

Here we are at the last day of the month. Three swaps at the same time and all are on target for completion by their due dates.
Here are a few pics from Dave's 1988 GT wiring harness. This is how we do all of our wiring harness jobs. Since this is a series III setup running series II electronics, we had to convert the fuel injector connectors to the newer style. No cutting and soldering on that, we purchased new plug kits with terminals to build the new plugs. Pics to come of that.
Here is Joey starting the initial process of eliminating the wires that are not needed.
Final step before it is installed into the car for the test fit and repin the connectors.
I pay her in kisses....
Here we are working on repinning Vince's series II swap. This is the fun part as you can see Joey is always smiling.
More pics to come this week. We are also working on Alltrbo's "project Midtrbo". In addition, the 1988 Formula that I purchased for my kids engine crapped out. I do plan to do a really cool swap in the future, but the car needs to get ready for the move, so I purchased Dave's engine from his 1988 GT and plan on swapping that in one afternoon next week.
I set aside all five days next week to work only on the Fiero swaps, so we should have some good progress pics posted up next week. Until then....

Dave, did you catch Joey on a break from her cross country travels (doing the wiring in the pics), or is she going to give up the road and work on the swaps with you when you relocate? Congrats to you...I envy you being able to go do what it is you truly want to do!

I don't see any reason why to charge for a disposal fee. The local scrap yard will give me $25 per transmission and $30 per engine. The downside is that I have to load and unload it myself. Dave's engine has 50,000ish on it and it runs excellent. I'm in need of a running 2.8 setup. No reason why I wouldn't purchase it from him.
As for Joey being home. She quit her job a few weeks ago. 28+ days away from home at a time is really no way to be a family. The stress from being apart was getting to our family....the kids really missed her (even though I was ordering pizza three times a week lol) She plans on helping me finish the swaps and close up and relocate the shop. Once we get setup in our new home, we are kicking the idea of doing "mail order" wiring harnesses for the 3800 swaps. We are still putting the details together but it most likely will happen. We are trying to figure out a way to keep the quality up to my standards while fabricating it without the car on site. Our favorite part of the swap is the wiring and we do it to a higher standard. I wouldn't want solder near the exhaust or supercharger....it doesn't take a lot of heat to weaken the solder and within a few years have a crappy harness. I just applied the way I repair the Mercedes and BMW's to my swaps. A few years ago, a customer spilled a drink on their window switches and fried out the harness by the switches. Since Mercedes doesn't sell plug ends like GM does, I got paid by the insurance company around $6500 to replace the entire body harness in the car. That is the way the manufacturer wanted it done.

Dave, I can understand the reasons for you departing New Jersey. Just know that you will be missed. The GSFC won't be the same without you but hopefully Ed, Abe, myself and the gang can keep the club strong. Good luck on life in Kentucky. Been there many times. Its a pretty state, the weather is warmer, cost of living has got to be more reasonable, the pace is slower and I'm sure that they've got their share of broken cars there that need to be fixed. .

Hey, I'm cool with that. ^^^ Make sure I get a Mrs. Guru ECU signature too!
Coming from a NASA electronics/wiring/cable tech by trade and a general gearhead by sheer insanity, I can say that wiring can be one helluva PITB! Props to both of your loves for wiring! I have a feeling that you're really going to love my wiring job, this ain't no proven 3800 swap!
BTW Dave, my remaining parts research and ordering is hot on the list, and happening. I'll keep you updated.
SIGNATURES ALL AROUND!! Any idea on aproximate date of finish, Dave? I'm in the begining stages of planning my time off to come get it, unfortunately, we are so busy that I need to give about 10 years notice! I'm thinking of flying out on a Thursday or Friday night and driving back. Hopefully a Thursday so I can spend some quality time at the Haus. I'm also working on a little surprise for you when I come out. Nothing big, but should be a nice compliment to the swaps that you do and the time you put in. And I see nothing wrong with Kentucky. Hell, I sent one to New Jersey, what would stop me from sending one to Kentucky! Looking great, by the way. Can't wait to get in it again! Vince

Hey, Dave and Joey!!!! I've got an idea for you two. Along with Joeys' autograph on the ECU's, get a stamp made of this pic as part of her signiture and stamp each computer. Watcha think?

When I get back and learn how to paint the ride (still figuring out a name), I have a LS2 just collecting dust and spiderwebs that needs to go somewhere. I'll be sure to keep you in mind!

Vince, We should have your car up and running this week. Then it is on to the testing time to ensure it will make the trip home without issues. My biggest problem is that I am a perfectionist. I'll have the swap just about done and I'll look at it and think that something doesn't look right or needs to be relocated and I'll spend three days taking the swap back apart and redoing it to make it meet my standards. The three of us have been working 10 hours a day for the past three days on the final portion of your swap (that's 90 man hours). I'm sure Ryan was ready to tell me off after he fabricated three throttle cable brackets that anyone else would have used the first one, but they just weren't right. Joey repinned the wiring harness twice because a few of the wires were about an inch or two two long and it didn't look perfect inside. The current cold air intake that is on your car won't be the one leaving with it.....even though it is the same setup that is on my GT, I think I can make it nicer. Dave

Luckly I am a perfectionist of sorts as well so I didnt completly want to kill dave that day
Just remember that there are innocent Fiero's in there too! If your gonna kill each other, just go outside! I know that I have thanked Dave and Joey and told them what I think of there work, but as long as your onj here, Ryan, let me say thanks to you as well. I'm sure that it will be worth it, and I look forward to meeting you as well when I come out.

The one with the white 88 GT would be me I think, and after seeing the welding job Ryan did on my exhaust system he has my undying gratitude and respect. I am a product of the gob school of welding myself and any time I see someone who can really weld I'm awestruck. Ryan, you da man.

Oh right, all I had to do was look at the pics of his silver GT closer, heh.
Yeah, that's gotta be your white '88 GT in his shop, it's the only one there. I understand you haven't even seen it yet! It's a nice car. I told Dave to move my engine/suspension/wheel/brake setup over to your car so I could take it instead of mine, then tell you that you got screwed over by getting an ugly faded red '88 GT. For some reason he didn't go for it.
