I got the strap material in and sewed some hooks on it.
The first pic is with the seat all the way back.
The second I moved it up a bit and the third shows the straps and hooks.
On the front it has a flat aluminum bar that holds it down.
To install you would just take the ashtrays out, undo the two back screws, lift up the plate a little and slide the bar underneath.

Just an update.
I should be able to get most of these finished, all except the straps, which I have more ordered, this weekend.
I`m planning on making about 8 grey ones and 2 black ones.
I haven`t made any tan ones yet, but I should be able to get a color match this weekend.
I have to go get some more plastic cupholders maybe tomorrow.
Here are a few in various stages.

THese look niiice!

Hey idea, you could put a zipper on the back part where your elbow rests around where the seam runs, and make it storage for the car manual, or 2 cds or something. Good idea?

How comfortable (thick) is the padding on the arm rest portion of it? That is one of the biggest peaves with the Fiero interior, both arm rests are very uncomfortable on long drives. Other than that what a beautiful design. -Jason

The padding is about 1/2" thick.
I use 2 layers of 1/4" vinyl top foam, which is fairly dense so it`s not real cushiony but I would say it has more cushion than stock.

For those of you who don`t go into the Mall forum I am now selling a few of these.
This is the last that went out.
I am also looking into having the Fiero Pegasus emblem embroidered onto the pad.

That looks very tasty!
The upholstery in your photo looks to be not quite a "jet black", but more of a "charcoal black", (at least compared to the plastic cup holder inserts...).
If so, that's exactly what I would want.
I want to match the "Midnight" leather color of my Mr. Mikes seats which are *almost* black.

It`s hard to say.
The material looks pretty dark, and when the flash for the camera goes off it lightens up the color of the material but doesn`t have much effect on the cupholder.
I will compare them tonight when I get home.

Sorry, I sort of got caught up in the weekend.
It looks like the Black is a bit lighter than the cupholders.
If you like and you are not in a hurry and want to make sure that`s what color you can you use Pm me your adress and I will send you a sample of the black material.

Whew! I'm glad you finally made it back home!
After two days I was beginning to worry about you

I'll shoot you a PM and we can discuss details via message or email.
*Maybe* I could simply get some of the matching leather from Mr. Mike and send that to you for a *perfect match*.
I don't think it would be any harder to stitch than the stuff you're using.

Well, my design in the mall section didn`t twirl anyones beanie so I`m thinking about tweaking my original design a little.
When I was at the liner supplier yesterday I saw some liners that were not so deep.
I think I`m going to try a couple of those to make the holder not so tall, although I`m not sure how deep they need to be to keep a drink from taking a dive going around corners.
I should have the sample with the Fiero pegasus embroidery back today.

I'm pretty sure the reason you haven't gotten more response is they are waiting to see the design with the cups sitting on the side instead of both across the front... and maybe to see if you will have them with the Fiero embroidered on them, and what they will look like... I know I am..

I know you've lowered the price from the first one you quoted, which makes it a lot more tempting from my point of view because we have so many fieros although we have an adjustable working cup holder off to the side of the center console, functional, but not all that attractive, they do fold up out of the way though...

My main complaint is it won't hold anything larger than a pop can... (I have 2 cup holders that are that way, I love them because they are blue, but they really aren't much use for anything unless I want to throw my cell phone up there for easy access...lol, hence the other cup holders) although with the sonic cup in there, it looks like it would... will it hold the McDonald's sweet tea cups? If so, I think you'd have a lot more people lining up to purchase them.. Oh, plus if you could get a medium to darker grey than the light one which would go with more interiors, that would be a major plus in your favor!!

My son wasn't interested because he has a manual, and said it would get in the way of his shifting even though that has been addressed, so he's content with the cup holders on the side of the console...

I will check the Mall section to see if you've added any updates... this is a really neat product!!

I don`t think much of the cupholder with both on the side that I posted in the mall section.
If someone could come up with a better design I might try it.
I have obtained two shallower liners that I`m going to try to fit down further into where the lighter / connector goes so that
the actual cupholder will be lower than the armrest pad.
One of the plastic cups that you typically get from some restaurants will just sit kind of wedged in there.
I did get the Fiero stitched fabric back from the embroiderer and it looks great.
I will post pics when I get home tonight.
I also have plans in the works for a replacement console door with the Fiero emblem and it will be padded and stitched vinyl.

Here is the Fiero embroidery I had put on a piece of the Charcoal material.
I just loosely wrapped it around a pad to show the size.

looking at this a one-piece looking part could work too...maybe with some additional storage ( or aldl connector or buttons covered)

That`s a good idea that someone else suggested in another thread, but the more features I add the more expensive it would have to be.
I`m trying to keep it affordable and also to keep the armrest pad as low as possible.

Here`s another version using shallower liners.
These liners are about 1" shorter than the other ones.

How difficult would this be?

Perhaps even tapered down more toward the rear...
This is a style that I would really like personally.

I also think it might look better without the straps at the rear and just use self-adhesive velcro on the underside to secure to the console top.
(Just a thought)

Randye, I could do it the way that you have drawn, but I would have to make it from scratch because I have patterns for the way I have it made now.
I will look into it and see if there may be a way to do it, easily.
Also, I can just leave the straps off if anybody would rather use velcro underneath.
One member did order one without straps.
Just to reiterate, these are 85.00 plus 12.00 for the Fiero pegasus and that includes shipping up to 15.00.
If anyone has any questions, I will be out most of the day today but will answer tonight.
Thanks, Mike

TX..... Just thought I would pop in here and say that you have come up with a very elegant and stylish design here. I have been looking at getting some kind of cup holder in my car here and this is by far the best looking one I have seen yet. Nice work, I especially like the dark charcoal looking one on the lighter grey console pics.... clean looking design. Peace

if you can make the low profile version in a tan that comes anywhere close to the stock ones, I'd buy 2 today. I know Mr.Mike has found some faux leather that looks great next to the tan interiors, in case that helps with sourcing the covering.

Damn....I was about to PM you when I noticed it blocks the cigarette lighter. I've got my Escort & cellphone plugs there along with the controls for the power seat backs and the warning LED for the alarm system. I could relocate the lighter outlet but not the rest of the stuff. Have you considered one with an opening of some type to access the lighter panel?

I really like these. I think they are the nicest cup holder design I have seen yet. I am waiting for a "final" version for those with a Manual. Will need 88 grey, and 87 tan. When I have my car, I end up on the road at a McDonalds etc. I'd need a cup holder that would hold one of their "medium" cups. (I never have anything in a can). These really look great though. I prefer the straps to velcro. I don't want anything that would damage to original arm rests.
