he he he.....I have an idea....A buddy of mine has a go-kart frame, and we are going to put my 5hp briggs & straton (sp) "lawn mower" engine on it. Now, to the point, is it ok to rig a leaf-blower motor the the engine? I thought it would be pretty sweet!! A "turbocharged" go-kart......think it will be ok to do? Think ill blow the motor with a leaf-blower hooked up to the intake?

Or you could just buy an 18hp lawn mower engine.

A leaf blower may be too much.
Seriously, don't do it.
If you're gonna do it anyway, jet the carb as rich as you can get it. You shouldn't need more than high idle on the leaf blower.
Check to see if the gas tank is vented at the carb, if it isn't, you may have to pressurize the gas tank with the blower.
I doubt that you're gonna set up an air/fuel gauge on it, so if the mower doesn't black smoke a little, assume it's too lean. Try to find a cooler heat range spark plug for it.

Contents under extreme pressure,
Aim away from face.
Keep out of reach of childen.
Do not turn upside down.
If irritation persists, discontinue use immediatly.
Do not try this at home.
Or any place else.
Really.

man, i should have thought of that when i still had my go-kart. exactly how do you plan on using a lawn mower engine with a verticle crakshaft to drive the wheels on the horizontal axle?

there is/was an outfit in calif. that took gm smog ;air pumps, and belt drove them off of crank pulleys on 4 stroke motorcycles, making small blowers,or superchargers.thats something you could work on. the bottom end of a briggs is weak.you should use a raptor block, etc.

I've seen a few ways to drive a horizontal shaft with a vertical motor. None of which look appealing to me. On is actually just twisting the belt.. Second is a "Differential" of sorts.. (You can grab that at Princess auto or the equivalent)..

Correct Johnnyk. Lawn mower engines are not for go karts. They require something like a Lawn tractor transmission to work properly. Get a horiz. shaft for liek 300 bucks. Save time and brain cells.
