Well I survived...and now I have a 4 day weekend! Hurray! Most of my classes seem like good kids...there are a few that I think will drive me nutz but otherwise fine.

The most interesting thing that happened all week was a junior that cat-whistled at me down the hall because he thought I was a student. Duh.

This is my 8th year in elementary education, 2 years as a Kindergarten teacher and 6 in second grade. Other than the paperwork, the assessments, the paperwork and more assessments, the hours we are required to spend before/after school without pay and the extra crap that gets thrown at us 2 days before school started, I like my job
Glad you survived the first week. Have you read Harry Wong's book "The First Days of School"?

That sounds like fun! Did you grab the little man by the ear and haul him down to the principal's office?

Yeah if they had to pay me for overtime they'd go broke! I did stay the other night until 9:15 but 2 hours of that right after school was spent teaching alternative ed. However, I do get paid for that. I also read that book. It was pretty good, however that guy is certainly full of himself!

The next time such a thing happens, get a quarter and trace the outline of it on the chalkboard, about 5 ft. up. Make the offending student put his nose in the circle for a few minutes.

I made this up, honestly...It never happened to me or anything...

First Fiero,

Too late, naah. Started college at 48, and I now teach at that university. Us non-traditional students may not finish in four years, but we do finish and most often do quite well.

I hated school.

Cant stand hearing the same trife more than once. And really cant stand being taught to at the level of the lowest common demoninator. (ie a class is only as smart as its dumbest student)

How many times do you have to do the same math problem before you figure out how to do it? You either get it or you dont...

I finally got sent to a school that let me do 2 years in 6 months. All tests. The option was to get a diploma from a local HS or get a high school diploma from a local college, for 4 less credits and an extra 120$.

So I always claim that I bought my way out of high school..

Give me a break. I have gone to school for a total of nine years and earned three degrees - only have three more years of classes and research/dissertation. Age and family have nothing to do with it. I've had class with and teach people who are doing both - it can be done, but you have to want it. IMO, when it is all done, it is well worth the journey.

Plus, what could be better than teaching?

I hate teachers...they always on strike asking for more money. WTF, you are a freaking teacher not a doctor. Frankly I am smarter then half my teachers. All you do is read from the freaking book. Here in BC a teacher can make upwards of $69,500 Canadian PLUS FULL BENIFITS. ThATS A crap load of money. An average doctor gets $300,000 without benifits. After he pays receptionist, office, insurance and everything else he ends up with $105,000 on average with no benifits, Benifits for a teacher run around 20k average a year. so teacher makes $90,000, Doctor makess $105,000.....so thats basically the situtation here. The doctors finally did get pissed off and went on strike. How the hell can you compare a socials teacher, who gives us packages and talks about things that in the exact way they are in the book. Has no clue about anyhing outside what we are learning, WTF. My Freaking grade 10 socials teacher didn't even know what the BIZMArk was....stupid.

thats a funny one....listen. grade 12 and under is not education, it is called screwing around. Doctors educated themselves through serious study...A 3rd year university professor deserves good money, but a grade 10,11,12 geography or socials teachers wtf do they deserve? I know more about history then they do. BUT THey have a magical piece of paper that says they are capable of teaching.....I've never really learned anything about history or anything in class. If I want to learn somethign I go down to the public library, take out a book on Normandy or the Russian Front, or Louie XIV or whatever I want to know. A dumbass who is telling me what is written in the book he gives to everyone on the first day, thats not teaching. Then when I ask him/her to explain the levels of theocracy they tell me I am changing the subject even though it is related to what they are talking about, wtf.

A doctor will most likely be a doctor no matter who his teachers are. and not everyone can be a doctor, some people are just born plain stupid. just like some people are tall and some people are short..well I am off course, but don't tell me how you are EDUCATING future doctors....people can educate themselves if they wish too.

It is so obvious from your statements that you should be out in the world making money and not waisting your time in school. Please do all the teachers in Canada a favor, quit school because you are already a genius and quite knowlegable in the world as a whole or should that be a$$hole.

don't get me wrong man, I need the piece of papers, thats the only reason I am in school. obviously we need school in society and crap, but teacher should really stop complaining about pay, according to 99% of them, THEY TEACH FOR THE "LOVE" of TEACHING.....not only are most IDIOTS, a LOT ARE hypocrates as well. teach for free if you love it soo much......gezzezzz.

Education facilities are important in society providee some kind of structure...but you cannot make someone thats born dumb a doctor. you can't make someone thats 5 feet tall 6 feet tall.

Not to say all students are bad, but it is obvious that you are not one of the brilliant ones. Sounds like someone packed your tiny brain with a bunch of bull. Talk to me after you had four years of college and a few years of graduate school, loser. Do you actually think the teachers of the subject you dislike had less education then the teachers you liked. I love most of my students and teach them all the same even the losers like you. I bet since you are so smart you could do education a favor and quit school to prove how smart you are and let the teachers provide education to those that want to learn.

OK, are you bipolar or on drugs? There is something seriously wrong with you... I am not talking just about how you piss everyone off.. there are fundamental indicators here that you are straight crazy.

I think that you are lying about a couple of things.. just not sure of which ones yet. 4th langage? Yeah right.. the verbage and structure you use is as poor as anyone elses, and lacks indicators that you are anything more than an uneducated Hill Billy American. Like the sentance, "...we need education in society and crap..."
and crap? What?
So.. shut up.. and crap.

All this talk of intelligence and you cant even type a message without pissing all over everyone's legs.

Talk of education and you how you are smarter than eveyone else.. and you work at Pizza Hut.

And that last statement about being croatian forever. What are you clinging to there? Are you happy to have your culture and heritage? Or are you so mad at everyone that you desire to be different?

Ya got issues kid. Go see a shrink.

Congrats Jen,
Some of the people that have had the greatest significance in my life aside from my parents were a couple of high school teachers. You have a tough job ahead of you. Good luck
Onviously you have seen in this thread how ignorant much of the youth are today. So you have your work cut out for you.

Holy crap, you're teaching at a high school!!! So, you're like that TV teacher who all the guys in the class have a crush on...I didn't think that ever really happened!

It must be nice to actually start being a real teacher after working towards it for so long. I've only got a year and a half left of school...still haven't decided if I want to dive right into a masters or wait a bit and see if I can get my employer to pay for it.

Hope you enjoy it as time goes on, it seems like teachers get burnt out too quickly...at least in my pre-college schools it seemed that way.

Dude....
I am sick and tired of you hi-jacking EVERYONE'S thread's with your smart-as$ remark's.... I have PM'ed you and even told you in your own thread's that IF you reply nicely that you would start getting respect! But, Now I see that you can't help it... You just have to be rude and make comment's that don't need to be heard!

This was a thread about Miss Jen's first week of school and it has turned into a pissing match between you and everyone else!

Why???

Do you like seeing all this that you start??

I will be starting a thread as soon as I get through with this asking to ban you and see how many reply's we get asking the same thing!!! You are one of the worst that we have had for the last almost 3 year's that I have been here! You do your best TO START TROUBLE!

Miss Jennifer...
Congrat's on the first week of survival! LOL
I'm sure that you will get alot more whisles through out the year. I know I have even whisled at you through my monitor..
Sorry for the b!tching that I did above... Have a good year!!

Smooth
