My beloved dog, Lassie, died today, she was a shetland sheep dog, or sheltie for short. She was 13. She lived a good long life of chasing cars, airplanes, bugs, etc. She was a sweet dog, other than being annoying with barking, but we all loved her, it was like a child to my mom. If animals goto heaven, I hope she's having fun right now.

Sorry about your loss. To some people (myself included) loosing a pet is like loosing a family member. I went through the same thing a few months ago. Your dog is in a happy place right now though.

I lost my Tea cup miniture poodle a little over 3 years ago when she was 9 years of age. She passed away in my arms and to this day I still cry or get depressed about it.
Her half-sister, Baby, is now 12 years old, and I know her time will be coming soon and I'm already having a difficult time dealing with that thought. She does and/or goes everyplace with us and even sleeps with us at night. I even take her in the shower with me once a week so she gets a bath.
After her, we have 6 more dogs. 6 more times of heartache for me because to me, they are like my children.
So sad; I had my first dog killed by a Great Dane...mine was a yorkie mix and tiny, only 4 months old..now have her sister and her son, 10 and 7 years old. I know what you mean about the thought of them no longer being here.I think I prefer animals to most humans(excluding the Fiero fraternity!!);they are loyal, loving, and if treated well, the most reliable friend you could ever wish for..if only Humans were a little more like animals, we wouldn't have wars, terrorists or all the other terrible things we Humans inflict on our beautiful world, and each other. God Bless!!
ps: if you get the chance, listen to Big Jim Stafford's version of "Mr.Bojangles"....one verse says it all. If you are curious but can't find the track, I will send you the lyrics

Friends of mine owned a fish farm years ago up the coast in a very remote area with no road access. The fish farm went bankrupt, but they retained their home and property. Two dogs, a male and a female from the same litter lived on this property all their lives. Over the years I often had the opportunity to spend one or two weeks a year at this location. Sometimes I’d be up there just on my own, but always with the two dogs. When I’d go hiking in the woods, they’d always be by my side, ready to protect me against bears or cougars. When I’d go canoeing, they’d always want to come along. On the rare occasion if I didn’t take them in the canoe, they’d swim along behind me. Every time I’d walk out the front door, they’d both run up to greet me, all excited about our next adventure. Definitely my best friends in the whole world while I was up there. I loved those dogs and I cried when they died. I still get choked up thinking about them...
Lassie had a hyper active adrino gland, she was always hyper, adrenaline burned her out. Same thing happened to JFK, he had advance stages of it my dad said before he had his head blown off. In humans to stay alive they gotta keep pumping you full of adrenaline or you die.
Damn, I always hate to hear of somebody's pet dying. Any animal for that matter. Sorry for your loss brother. I lost my best friend 6 years ago and I will never forget him. It kinda turns you mental for a while. I took it real hard and still think about him every day. I bought a new puppy of the same breed (cockapoo) and he turned out to be a great dog as well...

Sorry to hear it. They add so much to our lives. The time that I spent with my two previous dogs far outweighed the pain that I felt when they were gone. I now have a third dog and savor every minute that I get to spend with her.
There are more dogs out there that could use a good owner like you.
...And they do go to heaven. I have no doubt. I have two there already waiting for me to get home.

You have my very deepest sympathy. I know how hard it is to loose a pet that is very close to you. In 1989, the dog that I had had since I was a child passed away. Her name was Genie. I named her after the "I dream of Genie" television show, which was my favorite television show as as child. She and I grew up together. It still saddens me even today to think of her passing. The cat that came after her in 1989, "Rafferty" is now in his twilight years, and I know that he, one day soon, will be making the trip to Heaven. I know that they go there, and that they are will be waiting for me when I am called home.
I have a picture of her with this poem on the wall of my home. It reminds me so much of how she would be. It saddens me to read, but gives me inspiration at the same time that I will see her again:
The Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called The Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to The Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross The Rainbow Bridge together....

May you find peace in your time of greif. I'm sure all of our animals that have passed are waiting for us at the Rainbow Bridge.

I had another dog that passed in 1998, his name was Rhett, he was another sheltie, another sweet dog, we had to put him to sleep, because we think his stomach twisted (he was gonna die anyways, instead of letting him suffer), he was a rather large sheltie, I hope lassie is with him, if animals do goto heaven. She missed him terrible after we had to put him down. Lassie did die a rather horrible death, we were hoping it would pass, but it didn't, and she died. The day before she died, she was sleeping a lot in odd places she never does, and puking up a lot. Then the day I drove to the vets with her, she was just in a blank unresponsive stare, and not moving. Then at the vets, she started rapid breathing, she was put on iv's and stuff. I left to goto my cousins house in frankenmuth, after checking on her around noon, and she was still alive then. went to my cousins, and around 1:30 we went to Birch run to look at a fiero, and when we got back at 2, my other cousin told me she died. I knew in the morning she wasn't gonna make it, I hope she did, but she's been in pain and suffering the past 3-4 years from arthritis, the adrino problems, etc. I do remeber she liked chasing the squirels. I'd tell her to go chase the squirellys, and she'd get all happy and barking, and run off to find some. She also use to chase cars, and went after airplanes, and chase them on the ground, while they were in the sky. I do have an akita though too, we got her 2 years ago, her name is Wooley Bear.

*hugs* I am so sorry to hear about your pet. I know that it hurts but Lassie is in a better place chasing all the planes cars and bugs she can stand plus I bet she has a hyper playmate in my old dog Teddy
I totally understand your loss. It looks like one of our two english bulldogs has cancer. She's lost a tremendous amount of weight in the last month. Sigh... this is gonna be hard.
