Ahh, the days of the Buck Sgt is long past The AF got rid of the Buck sgt but many of the old timers wish it would come back. Wheres Ed (I'm Back) at? He was a former crew dawg on BUFFs

a good place for this. 1 1/2 pounds extra lean hamburger or ground chuck 2 tbsp. oleo or butter 1 cup chopped onion 3 tbsp. flour 2 tsp. granulated garlic 2 tbsp. soy sauce (or less to taste) 1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce 2 cups milk salt and pepper to taste sliced bread Brown the meat, then drain. Add oleo. Stir in the onions and cook until you can see through them. Add flour, stir and cook two to three minutes. Add garlic, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce and mix thoroughly. Add milk and stir until it thickens. Serve over bread.

California Kid, I'm pretty sure Subic Bay, and the rest of our bases in the PI, closed a while ago. I've done all my sea time from the Atlantic Fleet, so The Caribbean, Northern Europe and The Med were my play areas during my first go-around. My second boat was a boomer, so Kings Bay was the only liberty port I saw on that one. Guam is the place to be now in the Western Pacific... We even have a couple of subs and a tender home-ported there. I went there on a detailing trip back in October, and it seemed like a pretty wild place. Like Waikiki Beach, but on a Wal-mart budget... Thanks too bad, Olongapo was one heck of a party town as long as you stayed out of harms way!!! Experienced some of the best rock & roll bands, made up of local Phillipine residents, that I've ever come across. A lot of them sounded better than the original band that cut the track. The town was nothing but rows of Bars with cubby hole restaurants. Kinda miss those years in the service, during Viet Nam, and the above, it was like two very exciting opposite extremes. While Hawaii, Singapore, and Japan were great places for R&R, they didn't hold a candle to Subic. [This message has been edited by California Kid (edited 02-06-2004).]

Huh? They had bands in Olongapo? I remember the young girls diving for coins in Sheet River, and the jeepney taxis, but not any bands once I entered a bar. Maybe I wuz distracted by something?? Musta been the San Maguel. http://www.subicbaypi.com/ Subic City was a whole different world. The bars had such memorable names as Blow Heaven Angel Superhead Muff Diver's Ultimate Divers Calif Kid-ya ever ride the Cubi Cat? You're right. Ya know, unless a person actually went there in the Vietnam era or before, the human mind just can't fathom what it was like. Magsaysay was the stuff of legends. LOL Don!!! Yep rode the CAT, with enough of their home brew, you'd ride just about anything in town!!! I lined up a beautiful young gal in town who's Mom owned a couple of bars, treated her like a real lady, and it paid off big time!!! I always had a place to stay when in port, and breakfast every morning. Great gal, I probably should have married her thinking back on all of it. The Ole' San Maguel was a little tough on ya for the first day or two back in port, you had to make sure you weren't too far from a crapper!!!!!!! Had my first and only close encounter with a Tiger Shark while Skin Diving off Grande Island, scared the crap out me!! Thanks for the link!!! Stirred a few more memory cells! There MUST be someone on PFF that joined before I did. I know that we are all getting older but I don't want to lead the list as being the first to join. But if I am I enjoyed my 4 years including my 1 year in Takhli Thailand.
