Kris, I know a guy who works drywall professionally, AND smokes,AND has emphesyma he has been doing all the above for like thirty years and he's not dead yet. If you are sanding it, you should wear a good mask tho'. Bondo and fiberglass is more dangerous then drywall so I've been told....Frank

Some spackling paste used to be made with asbestos. Don't know if that's still the case, though. I suspect not. Still not the best idea to be breathing any kind of dust, but I'm sure that you'll be okay. You'll probably cough and sniffle for a day or two.

Anything in your lungs is bad. It may not kill you, but it's not supposed to be there. Go back to where you bought it and request an MSDS sheet on the product. If there is one available, they have to supply you with it. It will tell you all about the dangers of the product.
Virtually every kind of panel goods has a warning of some kind on it. It's a CYA type thing for the manufactorer. Even regular particle board has a warning about fomaldehyde, which is somehow used in making the stuff. I've breathed enuf of it in the last 5 yrs that the funeral home probably won't have to embalm me when I die.

I think the formaldehyde is naturally present in some woods, so they may be warning you about the natural stuff.
Formaldehyde is a byproduct of the curing process for the urea-based adhesives commonly used to manufacture processed wood products such as plywood and panelling.
You can look up the MSDS for allot of products thru the SIRI link at the bottom of Bad Chemicals in my cave. The only ones I found right off are drywall adhesives and spakles.
Even if the dust is technically non toxic, it still isn't good for you. The congestion that dust causes can result in various problems. The coughing fits trying to get the crap out can really wear you down. Even more so if you have any sort of sensitivity due to alergies or asthma.
