I'm pretty sure dezie36 also has a V8 in his fiero. A 2.8 on the other hand is no match for a v8 trans am.
In twisty back roads/ autocross courses with lots of tight switchbacks and the like, Fiero's hold their own against much faster cars due to their handling abilities and low center of gravity.

Whilst fiero's are quick little cars, they are by no means (in stock form) fast by today's standards. Most family sedans with 6cyl engines these days have more power than the fiero's 2.8

I have a Camaro Z28 (2000) with the LS1, there is no way you could come close to touching it with a 2.8 Fiero. It is the same as a Trans Am without the Ram Air option, 350 hp vs. 140 hp in the Fiero. The Trans Ams are mid-13 second cars stock, a V6 Fiero would be lucky to get a mid 15 stock. You should have no trouble beating 3.4 F-Bodys, or V6 Mustangs, with the V6 Fiero. If you want to race a Trans Am get a 3800 SC or a V8.

If you really want to walk a Trans Am you will need to toss that Boat Anchor 2.8 overboard and grab a v8, 3.4 DOHC, or 3800SC... THEN youll be in TA spankin bliss!!

Just drop a 350 in your fiero and forget about it... there isnt a stock poney car that can touch you.
Im runing Low 13's and with a simple cam and lifters upgrade high 12's for sure...
And theres no feeling like beating a camero or mustang or trans am... or ricer when they think all you gots is a 2.8.

Watch out for the old model (early 80's and back) TA's!! You could still through a big block off in them. One of those "built" could spank some of the best stuff Archie has put out. I threw 455cu. in. in an 82 and on wet pavement at 55mph it would break traction with both rear tires when kicked. Just had to see so's I wouldn't go to pass someone and wind up swappin ends.

Good thing I got rid of it. At 8 miles to the gallon sure would have been hard to afford nowadays.

How can you hate these things - They are just a thing of beauty IMO. Now, I agree with Dezie36 -My fiero will walk all over my TA

Seriously though, I don't know about the v6 TA's but I know my LS1 runs really well .

Personally I'd take a Camaro.. The firebird (especially last gen) looks like a plastic factory threw up all over them.

The only TA ever to have a V6 was the '89 Turbo Trans Am. It was a verson of the Grand National engine. A stock Fiero doesn't stand a chance against one of those. Not many V8 TAs stand a chance against one, either.

The Ram Air TA is especially bad about that. That's why I want to get a Formula Firebird. Much cleaner lines than the TA, with or without Ram Air, IMO.

I agree there is a lot more plastic and crap on the TA's but try telling your wife that, who is a readhed . Those redheads are stubborn and you cannot convince them of anything else !!!! I like the ram air but I am not really into all the other aero dynamics that go along with it, but she just had to have it I would have been fine with the v8, t-tops, and 6-spd.

I agree with the T/A looking a bit over the top, but I think one of the most beautiful cars I have ever seen in person was a Firebird Formula with a carbon fiber "Raptor" Stule Hood. Kind of a funny story but we struck up a conversation with this FBody owner right by Razoos and got him to start it up and pop the hood. It had a stroked LS1 and the idle was so irratic I thought it was about to die and the thing was LOUD. It was just drop dead gorgeous with nice paint and chrome wheels - VERY sharp looking car and I bet it would run 12s all day long, 11s with the nitrous. We were just standing there talking to this guy and a police officer walks right up in between us and starts writting him a ticket bacause his car is too loud, and it was WAY loud. All the sudden this guy says, well if you think that was loud, watch this. He gets into the car and pulls our real slow like he is just going to lope off, and then floors it. OMG smoke poured off of the back tires as he did a burnout at least a block long and hauled ass without ever even letting the cop finish writing the ticket.

We were all awestruck and I turned around to see that the cop's face is BRIGHT RED he is so mad and HE IS LOOKING STRAIGHT AT ME like I am this guys friend or something. He said, "Where is he going?" I said, "Man, I have no idea, but I bet he is almost there by now." The cop never flinched and was REALLY pissed now. "Do you know him?" No. "You don't know him?" "No, we just walked up and said nice car."

Then the kicker - The cop says, "Well I wrote him a ticket for the same thing last weekend, and he was in such a hurry to get away that he forgot his license, I guess if he wants it, he will show up in court." Then he shook his head, turned, and calmly walked away. THE GUY LEFT HIS FREAKING LICENSE!!! I was in shock. The cop did not even call it in or anything, just walked across the street like nothing ever happened. If I would have pulled anything like that, they would have issued an APB and put one of those OJ Police pursuits on my ass. WTF Anyway, was quite a show and I have tried to find out who that guy was just to tell him he has balls of steel, cause I would never have done that.

--Will

P.S. Nah, you need to put in a bigger engine to run a TA.
