Going 60 or 90 ? No, I did not forget that you said you had cop training. I remember you saying it when your neighbors kid bothered your caged wild animal (rabbit). You stated you knew the parent was drunk, something about being nosey and looking inside there house and seeing a reflection in a mirror, (what no wife to supervise the other parent?). We do not need no cops like you. You could go your stated 5mph over the speed limit in a stock Fiero. Why do you need a V8 ? Why does someone need an SUV ? Why does someone want to hunt ? CAUSE THEY WANT TO !

first off, it wasn’t a Nun... not sure where you got that...
I defend my self when I’m attacked... if you don’t want me to insult you don’t insult me.
my white trash thread was about people I work with... yet people here took it personally and started attacking me... SO I say **** you and attack back.
And this thread isn’t about any one here its about a ****ing car... yet it all turns against me... there are people here who despise me and that’s fine... but my next thread will be about how I like bunnies and it’ll turn into how I’m a commie pinko lib... just ask Strickler he’s already thinking of how to link bunnies to my dislike of white trash... or suvs... or the ever favorite of you guys... me throwing a cup of soda at a guy who laughed at the fact that the base in his car made my dog piss all over the car.
You guys want an adult conversation… you can start by acting like one first… I have excuse I’m only 21… what’s your excuse?

I’m going to ignore the rest as you obviously don’t know what your talking about... but a rabbit being a wild animal? You might as well call a dog, cat, horse, donkey, cow a wild animal... dumb ass they’ve been domesticated for a millennia... hell longer... that’s no longer wild... yes there are wild rabbits... but a Dutch bunny is not a wild animal in any stretch of the imagination.

dezie i agree with you on a lot of your opinions. i also think you should be allowed to express those views on this forum. however you can't come out with a "rednecks suck" or "suv's suck" post and not get criticized over it. nobody's out to get you. if you think that's the case then you need to step away from you keyboard for awhile.

Okay, let's talk about that "little beauty". It's an overpriced, ugly little car.
There's plenty of them here in Vancouver. They were interesting for a short while, a novelty item on wheels. Now that they've been around long enough to be getting dinged and dirty, they're even uglier.
I wouldn't want one if it was given to me, and I'm being 100% serious.

I am gonna get to your white trash thread but let me ask you a question. How do you know they were doin 90 ? I do know you do not see Chevetes in any kind of races. Why, they are not designed for races. SUVs on the other hand (Jeeps like you say), are designed for adverse terrain. Going 90, gee Dezie. Why don't you put some credibility in your opinions ? You are hard to take serious and when you are not, you hurl attacks. White trash....yeah, we believe you. That is not whiskey you smell but it does stink.
Guns may not kill people, but tell me, what would you rather have an incompetent fool armed with? A gun or a knife? The gun can inflict greater damage and is more dangerous, just like a SUV is compared to a car.
A Chevy Tracker/Suzuki Sidekick weighs roughly 3000-3500 lbs. That is as much as a sedan. Yukon's, etc, big SUV's (the point of the argument) are 5000 or even more. Mass * Velocity = momentum. The more momentum an object has, the more damage it does. If a 3200 lb Chevrolet Tracker and a 5000 lb Yukon hit the same object at the same speed, the Yukon will do much more damage.
And, using your own statement against you, Guns do not kill people. Correct? It is not the SUV that makes the person drive well in adverse conditions, it is the person! If someone knows how to handle a car correctly in snow/ice/rain/etc they can take a smaller, safer FWD car out into the conditions and prevail. Giving a fool a SUV does not change the fact that they don't know wtf they're doing, they'll stand a good chance of screwing up anyways. Just look at people in the Atlanta area during an ice storm or a snow storm. SUV's are in the ditches along with other cars. If anything the SUV just gives the person a false sense of security and makes them more susceptible (sp?) to failure.
I owned one of the very 1st SUVs. 84 Cherokee. (check the archives-I've talked about it numerous times) It weighed 3100lbs. 2.5 litre automatic with 4wd. I put over 260,000 accident free--virtually breakdown free miles on it, and when I sold it last November, I was still getting around 25 mpg hiway mileage. I used it off highway nearly weekly. Never came even close to rolling it, running over anyone, or into anyone.
My wife's Fiero. 1984. 2.5 auto. 2860lbs. Gets about 27 mpg highway. My Fiero. 1984 2.5 4spd. Weighs a little less than the auto. Gets around 34 mpg.
But now, I can't get over the rough roads to the local lakes to fish, have to lug my tools out of the house, getting groceries is a chore, and travelling with enough luggage for 2 people to go on a week long vacation in a Fiero is problematic.

Beauty being in the eye of the beholder, I have to say that thing is anything but. And yes, I've had many people say the same about my Fiero. It's an 84-the unwanted stepchild of Fierodom. I'm used to it.

What SUV's do you see getting pimped out and enjoying their place as a status symbol? 3200 lb "mini-suvs" like the Cherokee and Tracker, or 5000-6000 behemoths like Yukons, Hummers, etc? Cherokees and Trackers aren't popular cars keeping the Smart out of the US, its the behemoths that would get stuck in the mud the first time going offroad. Hell, most of them don't even have 4WD anymore!

I’m going to break my silence yet again...
The Cherokee is one of the safest SUVs on the road (as far as roll overs are considered) this is due to the fact that in the 80s Jeep had gotten thousands of lawsuits because people died in roll over accidents, so the Cherokee was designed not to roll over so easily which is why they don’t.
So the solution is for you to buy another SUV? What about a wagon or a van? These vehicles hold just as much stuff and aren’t built on the ridged ladder frame, which causes most of the damage to other vehicles.
And here’s a little bit of info, roll over’s account for only around 10% of accidents on the road yet account for over 40% of deaths... mull that one over your head for a bit.

OK I read this at first not knowing what it was about, now that I have read it I think I need to read it again. If it is about this little peace of **** I got to say it sucks. Sorry it does, it is the ugliest thing I have seen in a long time. Reminds me of the Pacer, that was ugly too. I think most of you know I really hate the term SUV, Sport Utility Vehicle. Thats just a phrase the auto companies made to discribe any 4 wheel, all wheel drive, multi purpose vehicle. To get yuppies to buy trucks. I have 2 Suburbans, an 86, and a 94. I need them. The 86 has 2 wheel drive, when we bought this one it was 90 and we were moveing to tenn. so 4 wheel drive wasn't a real got to have. Now we live in Maine with a 1/4 mile long driveway. So if I don't get the driveway plowed and someone gets hurt we need to the hospital, or we are hauling our 4 horse stock trailer threw a muddy barn yard, or down a discontiued road, (for those of you unfamiliar, that is a road the town and state no longer takes care of, doesn't plow, or maintain in any way) we can do it. Ever try to haul 20 sheets of 4X8 plywood in one of those little beauties? I don't think so, and you know what I can even close the tailgate and still fit 3 adults in comfort. I'm not saying there isn't a place for these little beauties, there is, and its under the wheels of my burb. That is the most useless thing I have ever seen, sorry just my opinion. Yes I own a Fiero, 2. One for parts now and the 86 SE. That by the way my wife won't even drive on the highway, she feels unsafe on the highway with it, and not because of the SUV's, because of the big rigs. We are adults, she is 43, I am 50. We don't drive like kids anymore, when its snowing and the Suburban starts to slide around at 30 mph in 2 wheel drive we put it in 4 wheel and turn around and go home. The average person with the Jeep Cheroke thinks because its 4 wheel drive they can do 70 in a blizzard because thats what the advertiser say you can do. You see it every day with the Suberu's they love to show them running up the side of a mountain with snow on the ground. Chevy is just as bad and so is Jeep, and all the others. People seem to think because they have 4 wheel drive or all wheel drive they are safer, they sad so on tv. All 4 wheel drive mean is when you get stuck, you are fu,ked, you need a winch or tow truck to get you out. If you are stuck in a SUV chances are you have all season tires, not mud and snow, they make to much noise for the yuppy that just wants the status and safety of there size, but don't understand how to drive one of these monsters. It is not a car and if you drive it like a car it will get you in trouble. They are safer in an accident because they are ussually bigger than the other guy, but the guy driveing the smaller SUV is going to loose to the larger one. Just like we are all going to loose to the 18 wheeler if we get in an accident with one, no matter what we are driveing. Americans feel safer in a larger car or truck with good reason, they are as long as they drive resonably and responsibly. I love the Fiero and drive it until the snow flys, but they just weren't made for Maine winters, hell I don't think anything is. a couple of years ago my wife took our little girl to Disney land in Fl. the day after she left we got over 40" of snow overnight. They said 20" to 24" on the late news, so I didnt plow and went to bed. When I got up the next morning there was 4' of snow with drifts over 6'. It took me 2 Days to plow our drive and barnyard. Don't think the Fiero would have been much good. We drive what we drive because we need to, others drive what they drive because they want to. Last time I looked this was American and we are allowed to drive whatever we want.

Beauty being in the eye of the beholder, I'd have to say its a nice little car. Reminds me of a Mini Cooper.
This monstrosity, on the other hand, looks to me like a failed attempt to prove the size of your manhood by showing off how you can afford a $60,000 vehicle that gets 8 mpg and how you can drive it to work every day.
Actually, I have no intention of ever buying anything other than Fieros. There are only 2 of us here, and we each have one. Some things are problematic, but not impossible. I'll adapt, overcome, improvise.

***** that’s not what this thread is about... but fine you want to bring it there... I don’t hate SUV'S for their poor gas mileage, many get better then my v8 Fiero... I hate them because in an accident they will kill the occupants of other vehicles... they are on ridged ladder frames that don’t collapse or bend so the driver of a car hit by a SUV will feel all of the impact energy!
And people who own SUVs love them because they (and their children) stand a far better chance of survival with minimal or no injuries in an accident.
It sounds like you believe in "automotive socialism".
quote
I have a V8 Fiero because I’m a speed demon.
And maybe the owners (and their children) of SUVs will be safer when reckless, irresponsible, self-absorbed "speed demon" punks like you cause an accident involving them.
quote
just shows how immature you are.

What the hell is your problem?
We were asked to give our opinion of a particular vehicle. I complied. If you don't agree, so what?
And for the record, yes, two of my three Fieros are dinged and dirty. Now you know. Big deal.
Americans feel safer in their behemoths at the expense of greater risk to people in smaller cars. That is selfish. To me, a suburban is the most useless automobile on the planet. Maybe because they close everything down here for 1/4" of snow? Or maybe because I don't haul anything large, and most of what I do is commuting, and a 12 mpg truck isn't practical. If I need to haul anything large, I take my Dad's Sidekick, pull the roof off if need be and stick whatever I need in it. While getting 20 mpg. Its a 4WD too, very fun offroad because of the short wheelbase and light weight. Very hard to get it stuck.

Mini-vans are not "cool" people refuse to buy them because they are not stylish. But like Roger said earlier, then why do people buy these large, tircked out farm vehicles and they are "cool?"
I own a mini-van. It is a box on wheels. But it fits many needs, number being safety. With 3 kids, it also hauls a lot of stuff, like hockey bags or luggage. Other families on our teams own large SUV's and they hold less than our mini-vans. The mini-van also get way better gas milage than any SUV I could buy.

Most people say the same **** about the Fiero... I live in a major city... A car like this that gets 60mpg in the city is ideal for me... if I lived in rural main ya I could see owing a suburban... but not here in the major cities of MI where they pave everything.
Personally I find it refreshing to find someone who uses his or her truck the way it was intended not as a daily commuter… I have no need to haul all that plywood… or horses… nor do I need to carry more people then my self and Sara (IE the 2 seater I already have and would want in this car).
Here we never get more then 12 in of snow in one day… and its always plowed… on the few occasions it has snowed more or hasn’t been plowed… I’ve never had an issue, I do know how to handle the vehicle I’m driving.
Now personally I love the lines this car has… and how its got a futuristic look to it… truly the car of the future.
Nah, I just have a low tolerance for hypocrisy and stupidity. I rarely bother to respond to you in political threads anymore, James, because to be blunt you're not even rational anymore in them. I wasn't talking to you in this one, but just who had to jump in and add their 2 cents worth? Pot, meet Kettle, you're black.
John Stricker
Edited to add............
Thanks for the insults, James. At least you're consistent in your poor behavior.
"...not rational...", "...consistent in your poor behavior."
Two more examples of primes, small off-hand comments designed to foster a specific impression in the minds of less-than-attentive readers.
You can call me irrational and behaving poorly all the time, but in fact those are incorrect assessments on your part. Since you are well-read and articulate, I can only assume that these primes are deliberate and premeditated. Given my observations of your behavior over the last year or so I can easily say that this behavior on your part is typical and expected.

You need to talk to a few people who know first hand. Roll overs only kill people who aren't wearing seatbelts, unless of course the vehicle that rolled is struck by another vehicle or some other kind of outside event takes place (foreign objects enter the vehicle, passengers had preexisting conditions, etc). Roll overs are scary looking, but if you're buckled up, you're going to be more dizzy than anything. Mull this over a bit: The world record holder (involuntarily) rolled his race car 27 consecutive times and was no worse for wear. This was amatuer racing too, not NASCAR.

May I ask have you ever been in an accident when 2 SUVs hit? I have and I had whiplash and my neck hurt for months... plus I hit my head on the window... and I had a bruise for 3 weeks. When I was in an accident with a geo prizm I walked away with no injuries not even whiplash and the car I was in was destroyed... yet the occupants of the s10 that hit us left in the ambulance... we left in a ride that we called.
Speed demon doesn’t mean I speed or drive recklessly... I accelerate fast to the speed limit... you should drive with me some time you’d be quite surprised. Ive also avoided many accidents that only the Fiero could have avoided. I also only had one speeding ticket… and crazy as it sounds it was really for only 5 over and that’s what I was doing… I was new to Lansing and didn’t know that 496 was 55mph and thought it was 60 and the cop wrote me the ticket any way… I’ve also never been in a car accident that I was at fault for.
You should know better about making fun of the size of someone’s car... you do own a Fiero don’t you?
I’m not one of those people who compensate for the size of their manhood by driving a big ass SUV… my car is just like me… small quick and only makes me happy

ya and 90% of SUV drivers don’t wear their seat belts... again this was in the book and was written long before the click it or ticket laws were passed... I highly suggest you read High and Mighty... its a very good book... you may learn something.

Liveing in Georga you would. Do they even have plows there? I lived in Tenn. for 5 years and found people don't have a clue how to drive in the snow, its a good thing they close the roads down if you get a 1/4" of snow or half the state would be in accidents. To me your dad's Sidekick is the most useless thing on the face of the planet. It wont haul anything bigger than your Fiero, and by the way my 94 Burb get 18 to 20 miles to the gallon in 4 wheel drive. So now how do I get my 3' tall 4' wide 2" deep tool box plus people and steel in your dads Sidekick. I need my Burbs, I drive my Burbs when needed, and you know what I don't care about going off road, lets see your dads Sidekick go threw 4' of snow or down a discontinued road in mud season. '

You're probably too young to remember it, but that is exactly what they said about the American Motors Pacer. Copy/Paste the next line into Goggle and you will find some of the ads.
"Car of the future"Pacer
Now copy paste this line into Google:
"Ugliest American Car"
And I believe you will find the Pacer is considered the ugliest car ever-hands down--until the Aztec came along to dethrone it.
