Thanks for the ratio comparison. I hadn't been thinking in those terms. That gives me another way to look at it.

Although I don't see a forum there right away...
He also said that there's a performance oriented C2 forum he knows about that is basically about building tube-frame race cars with C6 suspension under stock C2 bodies. He didn't remember right away what it was, but he said he'd try to dig it up.

http://www.hotrodders.com is not as user intuitive as Pennocks, but I have been looking around for ideas and concepts. Some interesting thinks going on with peoples hot rods...

Will:
Thanks for the Link. And thanks for the PM. I think I have most of my mechanical questions answered by everyone from here, but I haven't even started the body work yet...

Newbfiero:
Thanks. Can't wait to drive it again.

Indeed. A W-I-D-E variety too! Look in the Journals section, and check out Twisted Minis journal (the biggest one there). He's 20 (IIRC) and a star on the rise...

I have a '65 roadster I am doing some of the same kinds of things with.

Engine is a 400 block, destroked with 350 forged crank, ForgedTrue Pistons (Now Bill Miller), "H" beam rods, aluminum heads, aluminum water pump, roller cam, dual idler gear drive, MSD-7 programmable, Holley 800 CFM spreadbore, Holley 300-1 manifold, MSD coil & distributor, oil cooler, 3.08 gears (stock; the original trans was a BW 3-speed!), 11" clutch [McLeod], competition plus shifter [MUCH Better than stock!]. It is getting lots of goodies like speakers in kick panels, anti theft, radar detection, stereo, GPS w/moving map - am considering putting in the dash above the radio & heater controls, about where the A/C controls would go. (Whaddya need A/C for in the desert wiht a convertible? hehehehe)

Then, new upholstery including dash pads and door panels, electric windows, electric locks, 67 427 hood, flares, ansen sprint wheels (well, I like 'em, don't care if anyone else does), extra gages ( Autometer comp. oil temp, MAP, mixture, voltmeter) under the glove box.. Hooker sidemount exh. I have both tops, and it hauls ass. I just finished installing all new suspension cushions & body mounts; adding/updating sway bars, repairing small cracks in the 43 year old glass, and adding the '67 style backup lights. I am also re-doing a bunch of repairs badly done over the years.

One of the repairs was done by a bonehead named Chuck somebody in Honolulu. I guess he is probably out of business by now. I had heard from some guy (a parts supplier) at the Long Beach Grand Prix about 33 years ago that he was a deadbeat, and they were cutting him off. Doesn't surprise me - the car looked like he painted it with a broom, for all the sand scratches. I guess his view is that too much bondo isn't enough. Anyway, that's finally all coming out, along with the bogus repairs done on behalf of the second owner (the one before me).

Next, it will get done in Goldwood Yellow with a hint of gold pearl.

I bought the car in Nov 69, and have put nearly 400k on it since.

I want to put in once of the Richmond 5-speeds that has 1-1 final, lots of lower gears. No sense (to me anyway) in having overdive just beause of a high (numerically) rear gearset. Too many ups and down, too many mechanical losses from friction.

I also just got an 88 formula, which is slicker than owl sh*t.

I also have noticed that the typical 'vett person really knows (or thinks they know) the minutiae of restoring a 'vette to factory. And, of course, that they ignore you or criticize if you change anything at all. That's fine if they like that, but I am not thrilled with it, don't really have time for it. I am basically a hot rodder at heart.....You don't want to alter yours, that's fine. It's mine, and if I want to butcher it, well, that's what happens when it is MINE - I can.

Hope you have as much fun with your projects as I am with mine!

Lee Phillips:
I like the stingrays as roadsters. I like what you have done. I was planning on some of the mods you describe (speakers, anti theft, etc.). I am planning on A/C due to mine being a coupe.
I also was going to do the 67 tail light mod, and the side pipes. Yah, the body has some cracks, so I am going to Soda blast it and start repairs.

I have modded the suspension so far. Front upper and lower A-arms are tubular. The front coil springs are now an adjustable mono-spring. the rear is mono-spring as well. The rear trailing arms are the offset ones to allow 2 inch wider tires and wheels. front and rear sway bars are upgraded. the steering gear box has been replaced with power rack and pinion.

I haven't decided on wheels yet.

Color will be blue. I just haven't settled on a shade yet.

I thought about the Richmond transmission. After doing some more research on the transmissions, the TKO-500 seems to suite the application and my driving style.

"Hope you have as much fun with your projects as I am with mine!" - so far, I am happy with what I have done. Can't wait to drive it and be forced to get a grinectamy.

Jake_Dragon:
What color is your vette? It looks like the color blue I was thinking about going with.

I have ordered the TKO-500.

I don't know, I think its electric blue but its a 10 foot paint job.. It has some small amount of metal flake in it but it was a rushed job and will have to come back off to fix some of the body work and runs.

That forum is www.digitalcorvettes.com
They have a C2 section that has a lot of guys who are not afraid to modify their cars.

Thanks to everyone who offered opinions, testimonials, and critiques.
I thought I would give an update.
I have gone with the TKO-500.
After receiving the transmission kit, I found out it has provisions for a mechanical speedometer and an electronic speedometer (via a standard GM style pick up). So I am now going to add cruise control to the Vette.
