I have windows XP. Whenever I search for a video file it brings up 2 of them. If I delete 1 it deletes both. If i restore the file from the recycle bin only 1 copy reappears. When I restart the pc both copies are back again?? Any way to see whats happening and how to fix it?? If I right click on the file the size and everything is the same. So I think that means 1 movie is taking up double memory on my hard drive. Any ideas??

They are both folders. They are both the same size when I right click on the properties so I know its not a shortcut. They are for sure files and not folders. When I am in thumbnail view they have the same picture. The exact same filename.

Would I need another hard drive to do a backup?? How would I do the scan you guys talk about??
Or rewrite-able CDs. Or even online storage.
Properties on the drive gives you 'tools', thats where the scans are at.
And yes like the others said back it up FIRST ( and as soon as you can ), you may have nothing left after the scan ( or next reboot even ) if its too bad.

As everyone can tell I know nothing about computers. Its sad considering im 23 years old and should know more than how to hook them up and install basic hardware. I will borrow an external hard drive and make a copy of my c drive and then run all those checks. Other than the coping of files the pc runs great. No noise no freezing no lagging. Could it be software??
