Need some help finding a 1.5 to 1 DIN adapter. For a 98 Tahoe. I'm car stereo deficient, so I have no idea where to search!

Crutchfield.com will be able to sell you the proper adapter for your vehicle, for any radio that they sell.

Iam a big fan of crutchfield.com but when it comes to their install equipment, I would look somewhere else. At least in my experience their equipment was cheaply made and over complicated. I would go to best buy first.

www.onlinecarstereo.com might have what you are looking for as well. Very good prices, fast shipping and a good selection.

Assuming you don't have OnStar, you'll need the following to properly install an aftermarket radio in your Tahoe:

A 1.5 din dash kit...

...a GM antenna adapter (to convert the small tip of a GM antenna to a standard sized tip used for most car stereos...

...and finally, you'll also need a wire harness adapter; to make the aftermarket radio plug and play, so that you don't need to chop up your factory radio harness.

Note: The links I provided take you to Crutchfield's website. Although you can purchase everything you need from Crutchfield, I recommend shopping locally or on Ebay, as you'll end up paying less for the same items. I only linked to Crutchfield as a reference, and to show you the exact parts that you're looking for.

Good info. I wasn't aware of that.

Every headunit that I've installed in the last 10 years has been "sized to fit" (1.5 DIN Pioneers in the Fiero, etc.)
I didn't realize what was going on with the adapters.

Thanks!

I haven't seen an difference in the Crutchfield install accessories as opposed to Best Buy, personally.

What I'd like is to be able to put a double din in my '99 Silverado so I could put a Kenwood unit in that has the Garmin GPS. With the Sirius Satellite kit, I could have everything mounted in dash and no more crap hanging off of it.

An easier solution: Metra makes Company specific adapters that are Plug and play.

Example:

Pioneer --> Universal Metra plug
Universal Metra plug --> Vehicle specific harness

Avoids splicing together wires, and takes a few seconds.
Circuit City used to sell these. Not sure, where one can get them now.

Made several stereo installs in the past a snap.
