Nick has inspired me to post on my convertible build/restoration, so here it goes.
WOW! That car really came out looking good! You did a really good job on a shoe-string budget making that car look awesome again. It's amazing how people can totally beat up a car. My Fiero, which I've owned for 13 years... other than slightly fading paint still looks as good today as it did then.
Anyway, it looks better than the day you sold it!!!
O, yeah, sure, that's going to scare the crap out of the Camaro and Mitsu 3000 drivers you come up next to at a light
Hey, I said "looks aggressive" not "is aggressive". Besides, scaring the Camaro and import guys is the Fiero's job......when the new powerplant is installed.

There was an '87 Z coupe five speed in your town that I was tempted to drive the eight hours to see. He was wanting $1350 and it looked to be in great shape.

Yeah, having no serious money to spend can make you find other means at your disposal to get the job done. I was into billet when I had my Sonoma and I've found a large billet grill at a yard thanks to the C4C. I should be able to get it for near nothing. Thinking about making a set of billet grills for it.

Been hanging on this for a while. I don't think this idea would work too good for this car. I'd think it would fit a black coupe better. Wanting to fab a phantom grill in it like my friends Sonoma..... It wouldn't take much, just a little cutting/trimming/shortening and some brackets.

Believe me, I wish you were closer. You did a great job on that car. I had a quote to do a color change if I so choose to. $2500 for bodywork and color change, but thats me dismantling the car and bringing it to him in pieces and me putting it back together. I'll probably leave it white so it'll be cheaper to repaint. My coupe WILL be black, even if I have to spray paint it flat.

Getting back to the wheels, I do like the clean look of the white. How about a compromise? White wheels with the polished lip, and a black center cap with a red/orange bow tie in the middle? that might look pretty sharp, and pull all the colors of the car together.

How about just the "star" painted? I'm thinking white, but either color will work. Leave the lip, the rim, and the inside of the pockets on the rim silver/polished.
Does that make sense? Without seeing the wheels up close, i'm not sure that the design would lend itself to that. Just a thought.

Yup, I know what your talking about. I looked for a Beretta on cardomain today and couldn't find the one I've seen before. He did exactly what your talking about.
Here is a close up of the white wheel. You can't really see the silver lip when they're mounted on the car. Don't mind the filth. For the pic I just pulled them out of the shed and hosed them off.

kyunderdawg, have I understood correctly that you have the black wheels on the car? Then leave them and get on with the rest of this project. Spending all the time to paint the white with Raydar's suggestion? Forget that and spend more time with that young'un. ( No offense, Raydar. )

Yes, the black ones are on the car now. Believe me, my daughter and I take it every chance we get. I even let her steer it on the straight stretch (1/8 mile) to the house doing between 10-15 mph and she does pretty darn good too.
Edit to add: heybjorn, she has helped with the build since we started, so maximum time is spent with her......this is our project car.
Edit to add again: Wheels can make or break a car as well as any other small details.

A big thanks to 85SEnotchie for shopin' this car for me. I am thinking of another different style of hood to do as well, so 85SEnotchie....when I find another I'll be requiring your assistance again.
Also I will be aquiring a '86 Z24 coupe four speed in the Spring. It's a straight bodied car, but needs some attention.
Can't wait!!! If anyone is wondering about my Fiero......I am saving up for the harness.
