I was at an auto auction this morning in Reno Nevada. This mint 300SD Turbo Diesel came through, it only has 134,000 on a 1983. This car is seriously the nicest 300SD I have seen in about 15 years. Everything is mint, leather is soft and perfect, paint is shinny and flawless, the dash is not cracked, only 134k and the odo rolls correctly, new top of the line yokohama tires, lots of new parts on it, and not a ding in the car. This car looks like it should be on the showroom floor. Anyone that knows the Turbo Diesel motor, will know these cars run for 500,000+ with no problems if they are taken care of.
Well, I was so taken by it I had to buy it. You just cant find them in this condition anymore. I bought it and jumped right in it and drove 200 miles home with no problems and got great gas milage.
Here are some crappy cell phone photos. They really don't do the car justice, I will get some better ones soon.
What do you think?

Good, old solid german engineering!! And obviously respected by previous owners. I don't find them to be appealing to ME, but that doesn't take anything away from the fact it LOOKS really nice, and obviously runs very well. A keeper, I am sure Well done, good score!! Nick

Yeah. It's weird. You'd think that turbo anything would just be more problems, but with a turbo diesel it's basically as long as you do required maintenance and take care of them they can last a really long time. I've frequently seen these old turbo Benzes with over 250k on them all the time and they most always run extremely well.
my inlaws had a 1985 300TD that had been in the extended family since day 1(i had an inch-thick stack of maintenance records). it had 164k on it when i sold it three years ago, and while it had some rust spots on the body it still ran perfectly. if it had working AC, i think i'd have kept it for myself.
i listed it for what i thought was a reasonable reasonable reserve price and a reasonable buy-it-now price. i ended up selling it for way more than both LOL.

You want to buy another mercedes? There is a 2005 slk230 for 1500 in colfax. Needs front end fixed and some body work but it can be done cheaply. If I had the cash I would pick it up in a heart beat.

Nice looking car, and definitely a steal at $1900. There must not have been anyone else bidding against you. How long did it take for you to figure out you were raising your own bid? You could easily turn that for a profit if you wanted to. What kind of MPG do those diesels get?

You don't have to wait that long, we're cutting grain sorghum and sunflowers in October. And if you'll sell it to me for that and it's in that nice of shape, I'd seriously consider it.

I will sell it you for your wife to drive, but it will have to be during harvest time so I can drive it out there and run wheat with you!

John,
I am unsure what I want to do with it yet. But if it does come up for sale I will let you know!

Nice looking Mercedes. My own personal take on it, you may not like. I hate diesels and it seems to me that car needs a 427SBC
Arn
Well a 427 would be sweet. But this diesel is widely viewed as one of the best motors ever produced. Many people have gotten 500,000-1,000,000 miles out of these. Just insane when you think how old it is.
