As a Papa John's employee, I can vouch for the Better Ingredients. Here in Martinsville we haven't had a Domino's for at least 10 years, and I don't expect them to attempt to try it here again for a while. Papa John's ran them out of business and we are running The Hut out of business as well.

/shrug, I don't like the sauce on Papa John's pizza. The rest of it is good though.

I've worked at enough pizza joints to know that, for the most part, the toppings are of fairly equal quality. It's the sauce, crust & cheese that makes the real difference (in that order). That is why Domino's is tweaking those 3 things......it's all about keeping yourself relevant in an ever changing (and tough) market and adjusting to the tastes of the consumer.

papa johns is worst pizza I've ever had. I'd rather have a tony's frozen pizza. Sauce is terrible and so is the crust. I used to manage domino's pizza's and I never really cared for our sauce either. I can tell you that our domino's pizzas have always kicked the papas butt in sales. We didn't even really consider them competitors.

I am not impressed with Papa Johns. Especially when comparing it to Papa Murphy's, who in my opinion has some of the best pizza and prices of any chain I have ever visited.

Any chain store pizza tastes like crap, although ome Pizza Hut pizzas aren't too bad. Find and try all the local mom and pop pizzerias, and figure out who makes the best in town, they're usually better by a WIDE margin.

Yeah the chain store stuff is garbage. It's only good for when you're drunk and need that late night pick me up. Here in Windsor there is a large Italian community, and they've turned pizza into an art form. If you ever get the chance to have "Windsor style" pizza, don't do it. It will ruin you for all other pizza. It's all about the shredded pepperoni.

We have so many terrific corner pizzerias around here that all those chains are basically non existent. About the only one that seems to stick is Pizza Hut, and I am convinced it is because their marketing gets children to demand to go there.

"Windsor-style is usually a heavy dough crust, baked in a wood-burning stove (or at the very least on a stone tablet). The crust need not be "thick", but it's more substantial than your typical thin-crust pizzas. Although it rises a little and the bottom chars from the heat, it is not generally crisp. Instead, it's quite chewy and stays that way, even after refrigeration. The sauce is tangy, so generally it's applied modestly. The cheeses, if only I knew what cheeses they use... my guess is that it's a blend of mozzarella, asiago and parmesan.
What makes it truly great is the liberal application of cheese and toppings. Not quite deep dish style stacked toppings, but just a healthy layer of cheese and toppings, all mixed together. The pepperoni isn't in round slices, rather it's in small strips. The cheese diffuses through everything. Every bite is a juicy flavour explosion."

Between Silverado trail pizza in Napa Ca. (don't know if it's still there) and Gino's east in Tinly Park Il. I'm so spoiled that any of the big three are just fast food!!!
Seems we are having a similar discussion in the Glock world.. Companies changing time honored recipes that work is either for the free publicity they get as they change back, or management breathed in too much dumbgas at the last board meeting..
EDIT: not saying their recipe is good or bad, i only eat Chicago pizza.. don't care for that wimpy stuff most places sell.

I have yet to have a Pizza Hut Pizza that I would consider "good". They usually taste just a a step above crap to me.
About two nights ago we had Pizza Hut at a friends house, and between the 7 of us (9 including the 2 kids) nobody liked it. It was greasy, had a minimum of ingredients, and cheese. The meat was really bland, and the sauce tasted like it came from a can.
We had 3 different kinds, Pepperoni, Meat Lovers, and Canadian Bacon/Mushroom.
I understand different people like different things, but I cannot understand how the places stay open anywhere other than inthese small towns where there is no competition. The service is terrible, and the food is marginal. Usually the inside is underlit so you cannot see the filth, because the kids working there don't know how to clean.

Dominos, Pizza Hut, Little Ceaser's, Red Barron, Tombstone, ... all good enough for a pizza fix. The independent pizzeria can be good, very good, bad, or very bad. Some last and some close up. It can be a hit or miss pizza experience. The franchise places do allow you to build your own but not many people know to ask to tweak their sauce. That said, I had the new Dominos last night. Canadian bacon and hamburger, thin crust. I had forgot about this thread till I saw the very topic boldly proclaimed on the box. It was good. Skimped on the sauce a little but I can ask for more. My opinion of the taste ? It was good. I did not notice a Ka-Boom of difference though. I like it though.

well you didn't get the full effect getting thin crust. They are just boxed crusts and nothing has changed about them. The regular dough is supposed to be the big change,

I have a part time job delivering for Jet's Pizza. It's good stuff and I don't eat much pizza. I remember Round Table in Cali was great stuff.
I would have to say that Jet's ranks as my favorite. But Hungry Howies is only about a mile from me and they are great for the occational pizza jones (I like it better than Little Caeser which is just as close to me). One look at this thread and you'll see that pizza like many other personal preferences is all over the map. An example is some people above love Pizza Hut and to me Pizza Hut is absolute garbage. But what ever floats your boat. Im glad that Dominos is trying to upgrade as they were on the bottom of my list. I haven't eaten a Dominos Pizza since 1995 so I may just have to try one in the near future.
