It had to be a man and an engineer, ahhh.

Anyone ever had a refrigerator door shelf that doesn’t throw the contents all over the floor when you open the door?

No woman would have ever designed the door shelves the way they are.

They all have no bottom on the front of the selves so any small items put on them fall threw the crack.

Or the entire front of the shelf falls off and every item on the shelf falls off.

Posted for Melanie as she was venting to me this morning about the selves on the door of our refrigerators.

Yes refrigerators, we have 2 in the kitchen and both have similar door shelves that allow things to fall off. Or out of the bottom. And one is Canadian made, so it is not just American made ones.

One for the house and one for her goats milk and Amanda’s eggs.

So here you go Melanie a thread just for you about refrigerator shelves.

She has 2 different brands in the kitchen right now and we have had several different brands over the years and they are all designed similarly. They all have an open front on the door shelves.

But I should let her answer this.

You need to get yourself a Kenmore. Thats what we have. They said the 'bins' on the door are actually spill proof. They are big enough to hold a 1/2 gallon milk container or a 2 liter bottle.
The only problem with it is that its a side by side.

Every door is designed to exacting specification. To wit:
"No door shall be manufactored in such a way that would allow any 12 oz can of Beer to fall out."

OK I have to go for blood work this morning and I have to drive right by a Sears store so I will stop and critic the doors.

Here are the ones we have.

That one things fall out the bottom. And the shelf containment thingy, frt can be removed so that sucks.

This one does live up to the Don design criteria of not allowing a beer can to fall out. But also is removeable.

Even the bin type is removable but how well does it hold.

Yup, my new Whirlpool has enclosed bins in the door. The OLD kenmore had openings in the door shelves.

No complaints about the new fridge... except for the price

I'm with Melanie on this. Our fridge door shelves seem to be made to let stuff fall. And they wanted us to put eggs in there.

Were not sadistic, we had to stop using the bottom shelf of the fridge, and the freezer only large items can go in the door, wasted space IMHO.

Don't slam. Open and close the doors slower.

Well I stopped at Sears and looked at every fridge on the floor. The bin type door shelves are better except,

Some have drain slots that would allow some of the things Melanie puts in the door to fall threw.

These for example would fall threw.

And the little vaccine bottles she has to keep refrigerated as well.

Not to mention those door bins are moveable and could drop down. They have on our fridge, the moveable shelf frts.

I don't like that some have their adjustable shelves set up so that the top shelf either on the top notch) is positioned too high to fit milk/juice cartons/2 liter bottles or (the other notches) which make the lower shelves almost unusable. Also, plastic shelves stink- they should be able to support 2 gallons of milk without cracking...
High end fridges are nice, but pricey...

Huh, I must have spent enough money on mine. 2 X 1 gallon per bin on the door, spill proof, no cracks, and no complaints. Biggest side by side that Sears sold when we bought it.

$2500 for a fridge is a little out of our price range.

$1200-$1400... on sale, and my fridge has sealed door shelves. They are basically buckets attached to the door. This is a whirlpool, side-by-side.
