I do not agree with alot of Mr. Mencken's ideas, or his obvious "Objectivist" leanings....but he was a brilliant man nevertheless, who did have some keen insights and a scathing way of expressing them.

1.) Question: Senator Kerry, who is your favorite current Red Sox player?
Kerry: "Manny Ortiz"
<confused> Uh yea ok buddy, maybe Manny Ortiz plays at Lambert field!
2.) "Tonight in America, something very important in the fabric of our life took place. Very, very important. The Red Sox pulled to two-and-a-half games out of the Yankees. Now, I think that's important!" Except that the Red Sox had not pulled to within 2.5 games of the hated Yankees – they remained 3.5 games behind them.
3.)July 2003: Kerry on Iraq "The obligation of the United States government is to rapidly internationalize the effort in Iraq, get the target off of American troops, bring other people, particularly Muslim-speaking and Arab-speaking Muslim troops, into the region." I failed Muslim in H.S., lol
4.) At the DNC, Kerry said under his administration "We will double our special forces to conduct terrorist operations"
5.)Kerry on the war on terror, stated he would lead a "more sensitive war on terror"

Yes, I rather like this God fellow. He's very theatrical, you know, a pestilence here, a plague there. Omnipotence. Gotta get me some of that. -Stewie Griffin of The Family Guy

"A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty." --Albert Einstein

This is fitting for what is going on now in Iraq.

This is the Start of a New Day This day is mine to do with as I wish with it. What I do with it is important because I am exchanging it for a day of my life. I want success not failure, love not hate, good not evil, in order that I shall not regret the price that I have paid for it.

Water is fluid, soft, and yielding. But water will wear away rock, which is rigid and cannot yield. As a rule, whatever is fluid, soft, and yielding will overcome whatever is rigid and hard. This is another paradox: what is soft is strong. -Lao-Tzu (600 B.C.)

"So we went to Atari and said, 'Hey, we've got this amazing thing, even built with some of your parts, and what do you think about funding us? Or we'll give it to you. We just want to do it. Pay our salary, we'll come work for you.' And they said, 'No.' So then we went to Hewlett-Packard, and they said, 'Hey, we don't need you. You haven't got through college yet." -- Steve Jobs on attempts to get Atari and H-P interested in his and Steve Wozniak's personal computer.
