Need to get some new pics up, still have some finishing touches to do but it is serviceable at this point. Plan an extended hunting trip this fall.

The wife and I are talking about trying something like this eventually, since we want to travel but hotels for the 5 of us are getting expensive. It would be nice to be able to travel and not have to worry about having a dry place to sleep at night...

I'll try to round upmy camera to get a few pics. Been sitting in the driveway all winter and the only use it got was when my gal kicks back in it to make calls to clients and associates. My brothers little girls were here last night and just had to hang out in it. Guess it makes a good hideaway when you want to escape the world. LOL Single size air matress, lots of pillows and blankets.
Still have not done a good stress test on the power supply to see how long it will run but with just the window fan, lights , and radio running for up to 8 hours there is negligible battery drain and the next sunny day it;s all back to full capacity.
Am now looking for a piece of land near or bordering the river or a WMA to park it on. Would like to use it as a base for strting construction on a small self sufficient cabin.

Really, really, really cool. And ugly. REALLY UGLY. Looks like a hunting blind on wheels.
Hopefully ugly enough to be left alone!

Where is it? All I see is a bunch of leaves on trees.
Seriously how are you supposed to find it in the woods?
Nice box you got there, can you standup in it?
Steve
No standing room! Crawl in, kick back, turn on the fan, open the roof vent, and tune in to TV/DVD, Radio/CD, read a book, or just take a nap! Includes CB, FRS/GRMS, weather band, and an outlet in the back hatch for 120 volt outlets, and access to the wiring/fuses, inverter, charge controller, and 4 deep cycle battery's. All inside wiring and outlets are 12 volt.
I think I'll name it "The Last Resort!".

Man, just realized I never came back to this. Awesome! I even like the paint. I'm still debating something like this. We're thinking now though that a large "Sidewall" tent and a Chuckwagon towed behind the Astro Van would work well for us.

Heh, and I was forum searching for it today cause I remember it as well.. How spooky is that?
Now that I have a new receiver hitch in the Fiero, I am looking at Teardrop style campers and how to build one.
I can get a util trailer for less than 100 bucks right now, and want to be able to haul some small stuff... I have access to 6061 aluminum square tube and sheeting, and could easily put together a teardrop with the stuff... Decisions, decisions!

Why not just buy a used minivan. I bought a nice Astro with hi top, power couch/bed, tv, vcr, electric cooler, propane heater for $1500. When I first got divorced, I lived in a VW camper van for 2 years parked behind my business. I just used the shop or a gas station bathroom, but you can buy a cheap chemical toilet that can double as a chair.

The box can be removed from the trailer freeing it up for other duties, it will fit in the bed of a full size pickup. Had a full size 3/4 ton van, but using it for this purpose would have meant turning it into a mission specific vehicle limiting its use. Would rather not pay registration on a vehicle to sit idle.

I use my Astro for hauling lumber, car parts, firewood and hay. Sometimes for dates , and camping at speedways. I picked up my compressor and refrigerator in it too.
' multi use ' lol.

1979 Jayco popup.. gonna mount a couple soalr panels on the roof, gotta add a water heater, a small fresh water tank and pump, new countertop, new sink, fridge (already have), 5 gal Camping potty ($59 on Amazon), and redo some of the drawers, carpeting, a couple propane tanks, roof AC unit and reseal some of the seams. I also want to re-veneer all the paneling and cabinets with oak and replace all the drawers and cabinet doors with oak. Still, for free, I just could not say no. I got some work to do, but it should be on the road within a month or two.
DRA- how did you set up your solar? Did you buy a kit? I am looking at the camping kits at Mr.Solar dot com so we can boondock for 4-5 days without any civilization.

Lots of people buy those pop ups. There pretty handy to tow and store. It surprised me how really heavy they are though. I bought a damaged one just to get the frame and axle for.
