Well a few months ago, Tennessee finally legalized the distilling of Moonshine with a license. So a few days later, Smokey Mountain Shine started production.
Today I bought my first bottle of Legal Moonshine.
I have had GOOD shine and it tastes like water. This stuff tastes only like the pickled cherries they used.. but has the distinct burn of alcohol. I think my next bottle will be without cherries.. I'll add my own fruit. I only ate a single cherry and had just the smallest of sips, but I already have a buzz.

Let me know when you can ship some to me via UPS and how much it will cost me

Oh man!!! 190 proof!! That is like 95% alcohol or something!
You want me to ship you one? If UPS will do it, I can likely do it for you after New years The shine is 25 or so, then just whatever shipping would be
"Everclear" is 190. Been on the shelves for decades here in the midwest in drug stores ( back when they still sold alcohol ) and most liquor stores. I used to drink it a lot in college. "Clearspring" is 195, but a little harder to find.
What is different between those brands and 'shine?

Thats the thing.....You would have to box it up and ship it as a regular boxed item. If you actually tell them you are shipping booze, they may not send it.
Nurbs, I am not sure what the difference between shine and PGA is. But I do know there is a difference. We have PGA here too. Matter of fact, my first sip of this stuff made me think of PGA.
Like I said, the illegal shine, from the mountains.. Is much smoother. Well.. When you get the good stuff. I had have mountain shine that tasted exactly like this too. But I was hoping for the Water like shine.
There is another company making it too. Theirs looked good, but it was charcoal shine. Not a big fan of the Charcoal.
Ok well.. We are on Cherry #2. Now, keep in mind that I do not drink... Except on rare occasions. So I am a cheap drunk... But man oh man... 2 of these little buggers and I have a wicked buzz. But they taste like Cherry cough syrup. Definitely trying the NON pickled Cherries sometime.

I have always wanted to taste the difference but never knew of anyone here that made it themselves, and am not brave enough to do it myself even tho i don't think the government really has a constitutional right to restrict me making my own for my personal use ( i don't want to goto jail for something like that. )
Well the good stuff has no real flavor. Like I said, it is like water. And some brewers would flavor theirs with all kinds of stuff. Fruit, Nuts, Bark.. Whatever they wanted it to take on the flavor of.

I have a few jars of Popcorn Suttons moonshine.... After he killed himself they made moonshine legal.... Because of him.... He was the only one producing moonshine, They was going to put him in jail. after he killed him self, some big time country singer showed up and wanted to take over his still? I can't stand country music.. I sure as hell can't stand the city slickers that sing that crap, We don't play country music, We play HELLBILLY music... country is no different then pop, Its being played by pop stars.

If it's legal it's not moonshine. It's simply grain alcohol.
Yup. Fed/BATFE rule... alway been legal if distiller pay tax. Some state won't allow DIY still. Taxes, leech lead and other contaminate in product, etc...

That's why you only use copper pots and pipes. Not that i would know anything about that stuff. ( ok, i did some research, as someday I am going to make it for my car at the rate gas prices are going, which is still legal here the last i heard. But it wont be for drinking )

Right, but the word itself, Moonshine comes from being made in the moonlight illegally. If you make it legally it's not called moonshine.
I'm not sure how to explain how I see this better.
It's kinda like intercourse. one way (with permission) it's legal, and called sex. The other way (without permission) is called rape, the two are not interchangeable.
Alcohol made legally is called Whiskey . Alcohol made in a Still, not legally is called moonshine. The two are not interchangeable.
Yes, this is just semantics, but really. Everclear is technically a legal version of moonshine, and it sucks. I see manufacturers adding the "moonshine" moniker to bottles for sales, when actual moonshine is nothing like what they have.
I've always wondered about making my own still. Just always here the horror stories about it. How realistic is it to do at home? I've had some from my family in Tennesee and it's exactly like you say, you can't even tell ur drinking alcohol compared to something like everclear.
On one side of my family in those days.. We had a major Shiner.. And on the other side of my family, We had one of the most notorious shine busting cops in TN.
I have heard some stories. But all in all I believe it is butt simple to make shine. However, they say it takes years to perfect that flavorless point.

Some of the best is done by "old timers" that have been perfecting their craft for 60+ years and not told a soul their secrets.

No popcorn was not the only one still producing shine... there is still alot of it flowing out of his neck of the woods.... Hank Jr. came to the memorial and put on a little show but did not try to purchase the rights or "take over his stuff" He just liked the shine. As for making it legal that took over a decade it was not due to popcorn's death it was a matter of changing the wording in the law itself.

My favorite shine has pineapple in it! Makes me get crazy, more so when I'm drinking beer with it. Sometimes we have to put on the helmets so we don't get hurt!

Ok... We have a WINNER!!!! I went back to the liquor store today and bought a bottle of the OTHER shine they had. This stuff is Apple Pie Shine, made with Jr. Johnson's family recipe. OMG is it GOOOOOOOOOOD!!!! Tastes just like ... Well.. Apple Pie, with a very light burn. It has a stick of cinnamon in the mason jar to give it that cinnamon flavor and is made with apple juice.
This stuff is the REAL stuff!! IT is however, lower proof than the real mountain shine.. but that is probably for the best. The real stuff has blinded me temporarily before!
