Ever sit and stare at a progress bar and pray, white-knuckled, to your diety of choice? (it's like that foxhole quote...)
Don't ya hate:
-Ones that stay at 98-99% FOREVER -Ones that start...then stop...then go a little more, then stop...(Oh look, it's almost done, oh, wait... hmmm. oh there it goes... just a few more...oh...errrr) -Ones that you KNOW take 2 minutes, and the customer is RAVING (longest 2 minutes EVER)* -Ones that get to the end, and then start over (ARGHHH) -Ones that advance for awhile, then go back down to 0 because the thing it was trying to do Failed (install, upgrade, file copy, etc) -Ones that are FAKE (animated .gif or whatever) -Ones that have no other details in the dialog box, so you have NO idea what it's doing, how much it has progresses, how much time is left, etc... -Ones that finish too quickly and then quit before you can read the "IMPORTANT: After installing this product you must also install..."
Got any of your own to add? (I'm waiting....)
*I no longer stress over this situation - the install will take as long as it takes, DEAL WITH IT!!!!
This song gets stuck in my head during long installs:
Upgraded a HP to Windows 7 a while back for my fathers friend.... Says it could take a while so I walk away. Next day it hasn't moved at all. Start doing some searching only to learn that there are different procedures to fix it stopping the upgrade according to what % got done... This was teh one I used but there are others for different freeze points. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/975253/en-us

I transferred a 5 gig file 2 days ago. It took 11 seconds. I thought the file was "fake" but then realised I was using usb 3.0 and got really happy. Then I transferred said file to a flash drive......Took well over 5 minutes.
I have secretly always been in love with the progress bar. A sign that something great is about to happen, I stare excitedly as each little increment pushes it'self ever forward tword ultimate greatness. It is truely one of the greatest computer gifts bestowed directly upon us by all that is wholely binary.
I just splooged.
