I know back in the 70's they tried one ski snowmobiles, but looks like someone is trying them again. Interesting, I would think somewhat difficult in uneven snow? I saw this locally and took a few pics.

That thing does look like it would be abit of a handful to ride. I'll stick with two ski's please! Just curious, what was everyones first sled? My first was a Massey Ferguson Ski Whiz, and then I moved up to a Johnson Golden Ghost (with reverse!). Both of them were just a blast to ride, and and absolute tanks as far as reliability went. They do look kind of funny now compared to todays sleds though.

I remember these thing running around when I was younger. I always thought they were cool but they had a tendency to roll pretty easily. I would have liked to see what would have happened if they had made the tracks and skis little wider. I was a good idea but needed a few changes to be a great working idea.

Awesome! I love old sleds - they had so much character! Never heard of the Rader before. Is that the manufacturers name?

Leisure Vehicles, Inc. was the company. I think they only made them for a few years in the late 70's. Roll over issues along with poor reliability I believe was the demise of them.
I should have specified in my post above that I used to see them, but most of the time they we on the side of the trail or middle of the lake with someone working on it trying to get it going

Rode those back in the day and yes they were fun, but compared to todays machines its like night and day. Since you sat down inside the Rader it would beat you to death going over any kind of bumps and really not much power, but when youre a kid it was still fun! Thanks

...they have been making them for at least the last 5-6 years (when I first noticed them again). Probably handle just like a bike (but on snow).
First sled I had back in the 70's was a 1968 Model 158 SCM Snow Cruiser - looked exactly like this one:

I was thinking the same, maybe if there is too skags, one on each side of the ski it would keep it from sliding out to the side like a bike would on slippery surface?
