Its a f150 with different badging basically. The interior is a little nicer thats about it. And I dont think you can really use it to tow anything but I dont know if there was a option for a tow package or not.
I pass one daily on the way to work, it's a Ford F150 with weird lights as far as I am concerned. You are paying extra for a name, not worth it to me, but to each their own.

There nice looking ill give them that... the one were looking at is a black 2002.. only thing i dont like is no 4WD.
Take a base suspension crew cab F150... Add a bunch of gadgets and some squishy leather and call it the Navigator of pickups. A nice ride, but they're not really designed for working with anything heavy.
The factory bed topper is nice, though.

Word. I will also add that a truck is a tool. Meant to be used. Scratches and dents add value character to a truck. Mall queen trucks have inferiority complexes. I see all these four door trucks, which have smaller beds, and think .

Not only what the others have said but the bed is useless because on the wood inlay. I would not buy one because the 5.4l V8 in those things are crap. 230hp out of a 5.4l. and crappy reliability. I had a 01 F150 crew cab Lariet. The same truck but different Leather interior and lights. It was total crap. sold it after 1 year because It was in the shop 6 times all for different things so the lemon laws did not apply.

I am a big F150 fan. I love my Ford trucks. (even when they eat coil packs)
I worked on the team that did NVH for the Blackwood. (noise, vehicle, harshness) We heat and cold soaked vehicles, tested them on a four post hydraulic road simulator, then data logged. The Blackwood is a pretty light duty F150, with too much weight piled on in luxury items, and gadgetry. They ride softer, but only because of the overload in accesories. We had real issues with keeping the suspension underneath them. Shocks were murdered in the process, drivelines wound up, and beds were twisted. It feels kind of nice knowing that I was paid to destroy vehicles.
INHO Rick, look for a nice Lariat. Those were designed from the get go to carry the weight of luxury. The Blackwood is a niche vehicle, with no real following. It is useless for anything other than a few bags of topsoil, and even then, hope they don't break on the way home from the store. All of that nice wood looking dingey.
Other than the Blackwood "look", parts are cheap, and easily available. Just don't get rear ended, or mess up that grill. $$$$$$
Good luck,
Tony

If he wants a car but likes the look of a truck, this is the the one for him. I found most people will never carry a load of gravel of roofing tile in their truck so light duty truck works well for them.

True. I know a gal that insisted on buying an S10 for a daily driver because shed look cool. She had a flat bed cover installed. In 12 years shes owned it, i'll make a bet shes ever had anything in the bed. I took the cover off to fix a scraped bedside. Inside didnt have a mark or scratch except for water spots.
I also know people that buy 4x4s and rarely ever get off the freeway and never drive in the snow.
I guess you just buy what you think looks good.

The Blackwood did not have the "Crap" motor that you Speak of. It had a 32 valve Intech 300 HP 5.4
If you want a truck get a real truck. If you want a status symbol get the Lincoln.
Your right! Ive seen the dealer sales presentation for the Lincoln sales people. The Lincoln brand manager says..."The Blackwood is not a work horse" "Its a life style statement" At one point he refers to the Blackwood as more of a sporty luxury cruiser.

Well a salesman said it was good, that should settle that.
Do you have any pictures of your Lincoln Blackwood?

The Lincoln Blackwood may have been status symbol when new. The Neiman Marcus Edition was 58K. Not a status symbol today though and anyone can afford them. I would say its more of a curiosity vehicle these days. I often get asked about the Blackwood and It will probably turn more heads than any other 2002 pick up on the road just because its different and unusual. People usually either love or hate it.
Thanks for the pic help. Last new car I bought was a 2007 Mercedes E with AMG package. That car was more of a status car. It was nice but still get asked more about the Blackwood than the Mercedes. I don't think Lincoln will have much status for many years to come. I simply have a fondness for the Blackwood.
Also, looks like you picked one of the worst pics of the Blackwood and the best Mark LT. Mark LT has very little uniqueness. It is a rebadged Ford F150. At least the Blackwood has its own unique custom bed with stainless steal inside and several other different features separating it from the F150. Mark LTs are everywhere. Nothing unique about them.

Honestly having a luxury truck makes about as much sense to me as taking a Hummer H2, putting giant chrome rims on it, and driving it through the 'hood.

I like the Blackwood. Not for me. If I am going luxury, I will take a King Ranch. I would own one if my current F250 didn't take such a beating. The next truck in our fleet with probably be either an F250/350 King Ranch. Actually I misspoke a bit, we need to get another one just like my current driver, then the King Ranch, but it will only be for bed loads and the gooseneck. No rack system of any type.
I am plenty happy with our F-150 Lariat, for what it is...

Hello, Ive always liked the looks of the Blackwood and its trim, plus the rear tailgate is pretty cool too. Though Id never own one myself as I beat on my trucks too much. Still if I only wanted a nice ride with once in while some CLEAN stuff in the back then yes I would get it.

I disagree with your assessment of 4-door short bed trucks. I drive a 2002 Chevy 2500HD in this configuration. It's 2wd, full 4 doors, and has a short bed. It is also extremely useful. I've driven hundreds of miles with multiple skids of bricks, blocks, bags of cement, et cetera. These are heavy items that don't require an 8 foot bed. A 95 Caprice Wagon will haul a sheet of plywood or a bunch of 2x4s, but it wouldn't be able to drive from Chicago to Bay City with 4,000 pounds in the back, plus 3 passengers riding in comfort with plenty of leg and headroom and space left over for basic tools and food and drinks.
Our "mall crawler" truck also hauled a 31 foot camper, fully loaded with gear and motorcycle equipment, a husband and wife and 4 kids ages 8-17 from Chicago to Sturgis, SD and to the northern tip of Wisconsin in relative comfort. These trucks can be VERY useful. Some of us have no use for a full 8 foot bed, but we need carrying capacity, seating, and towing capacity.
On the Blackwood... Bad idea.....

That is the towing capacity. If you put anywhere near that in the bed it would destroy the truck. The payload is 1200lbs for that vehicle.

I would feel rather unsafe riding around with 2 tons in the bed of my truck. I sell stainless steel for a living if it helps gauge how overloaded I have had my truck.

If you move it forward in the bed, strap it so there is no movement or weight transfer, and drive with some sense, it does fine. The suspension never bottomed out, and the brakes can stop 15,000 pound trailers, so 4,000 pounds didn't bother them. Of course, the camper had electric brakes, but the utility traillers I've used never do. The truck felt just fine. I'm sure there are revenue raisers who would love to nail me for some kind of GVWR violation or somehting, but I think this is different from hauling a horse trailer down the highway with a Fiero or driving a haz mat truck with no license.

I have a couple questions. Was it 2 pallets of bricks? I ask because without the tailgate down a standard pallet is 4x4 and 2 wouldn't fit. Did you have the 2nd pallet loaded on the tailgate, isn't that a lot of weight for the tailgate? Also, a pallet of bricks is typically 2400lbs. 2 pallets would be close to 4800lbs.
I am not saying a double cab truck is a waste, as I certainly love having one. I personally need the long bed. I am looking for a double cab long bed, but they aren't easily found with my requirements.

That's because they are all stuck in parking lots somewhere, 'cause the owners couldn't turn them around. They have a turning radius of about two miles. My brother has a 2500hd 4x4 crew cab long box and it doesn't turn worth a darn.

8700lbs is kind of crap for towing. A regular 1/2 ton truck is about 12,000lbs. Also, good luck towing 12,000lbs in a 1500/150 truck. YUCK.
I torture my trucks. A Mazda B2000 extra cab loaded with oak above the cab, another time, fully loaded with dirt, turned mud by rain. Ranger 4X4 off road, towing a yard of cement in a powered bucket. Ya gotta drive carefully. I pull out trees with them. I sold the Mazda for more than I paid for it after 10 years of use, I do not expect that with the Ranger.

Hello, well not after you get through with the Ranger (kidding). On another note, arent the Mazda and the Ranger the same.

Whenever I deal with bricks they are strapped as "cubes" of brick. That is, depending on manufacturer, brick style, et cetera, 300-500 bricks, stacked and banded together without a pallet. They have openings built in for forks. These can range from ~2000 to ~4000 pounds (assuming 500 at 8 pounds each), but I usually had 2 cubes at ~2,000-2,200/cube. Though, really, I most often would be carrying mostly bagged cement without bricks, at about 3,800 pounds (94/bag, 40 bags, plus pallet). I never had the bed open while hauling the heavier masonry supplies, only with certain lumber, and always properly tied down. The truck now has about 140,000 hard miles, is about through its second set of tires, halfway through its second set of brakes, still has original plugs and coils, replaced the started a couple months ago, an alternator a couple years ago, and a rear wheel bearing a coupole months ago. Other than oil changes every ~5k miles, a car wash every year or two, and wiper blades/fluid, I think that covers it. Oh, the stock battery lasted about 9 years, too. This is a good work truck, driven year 'round in Chicagoland. It is reliable, tough, comfortable, and surprisingly quick. I've timed it via my buddy's g-tech thingy at about 7.2 to 60.
The downsides: It IS comfortable, overall, for a work truck, BUT it rides harsh once you get to the bumps. I only average about 11-12 MPG(I do have a lead foot, and even though the exhaust is stock, the V8 growl is intoxicating). It is starting to show signs of rust in the passenger rocker (this is due to the horrible washing schedule, though). The turning radius is about 58 feet. I park with my nose just about touching the wood retaining wall where I live, and the rear bumper sticks out about 2 feet into the driveway. There is no way to turn the stupid bright red LED on the brake controller off.
Overall, I love the 4-door short bed layout. If I needed to be able to fully house sheets of drywall or plywood, I would be all over a full length bed, but for me I usually move heavy things, not long things, so it is perfect. It's like an SUV where the UTILITY actually exists...
We bought it and were taking delivery tomorrow.,... Damn is it a nice truck...
Congrats! Now take that Blackwood to your local car show. It will turn more heads than any Lincoln Mark LT, King Ranch or any of the other factory truck because its rare and unique.
