wow i remember my dad having one of those! back in like 93 that brings back memories.
I was only 3 in 93, but I whenever my dad was on call (Roto-Rooter) I remember his Motorola pager just like that one. It was probably more around 95-97 though.

I believe the Bravo pager actually came out in the 80's. Be sure to pimp it with the gold chain
Here is one of the service providers who can probably activate the pager.
My wife is an administrative lead at Mayo Clinic in IT and has one at work...hasn't ever gone off the entire time she has had it, but it's still there. Still not sure why they hand them out and don't just call people's cell...I'm sure there is a good reason...maybe.

I had one of these for a number of years. looked like a normal pager when folded. Allowed two way paging. Had my regular email sent to it so I could monitor my messages, and respond as needed.
Motorola T900
I lost it in Daytona 2002, set it on the rear bumper of the truck to hook up the trailer. I remembered at the first fuel stop, it was gone.
I had a Motorola Bravo in the later mid-90s. It was a hand-me down. I actually had it until around 1998 when I first started driving. At the time, I really couldn't afford a cellular telephone ( ) and the pager was a nice alternative when someone needed to contact me....... although finding a payphone was a bit easier then as more were around.

The reason they are still used is that you can't (or aren't supposed to) have a phone (or a 2 way pager for that matter) switched on in certain environments like in hospitals etc.

And IT guys.. Monitoring tools set to page when systems go down. Its not like you need to call it back.
Actually, we do. We have to acknowlege the page so they know it's being worked on and don't escalate it to the next level. Some of our high priority pages only wait 5 minutes before going to the next contact on the list.

I had 2 of those way back when. One I replaced the cover with a clear orange case, the other a few years later I replaced with a clear purple case. I also had a smaller Motorolla pager, although I don't recall the model, that came with a clear cranberry case after those 2. We went and got it when my wife was pregnant, so if something happened she could get in touch with me fast. Cellphones at the time were still pretty large and rather expensive.

I used to carry two Bravos all the time. One was a Nationwide Skypager for work. The other was a local unit for personal use. My friends all hated my Skypager, because you had to call an 800 number, then dial my 7 digit pin, then dial your message. If only I had an iPhone back then!!!

If i have ever had an automated page from monitoring systems i have never had to call anyone back. Of cousre 90% of the time i was the only IT guy in the company.. thus the automated monitoring systems
