Just wanted to keep this out of the archives and post a little update. I'm going to start working on this project again now that the weather is getting nice and that I have received a vital part to my build. Some of you know Mark Penny and the radio mounts that he has made for the Fiero community. I have contracted his services to make me a one off radio mount for my Cavi and have to say that his work is top notch. The font and color match the Cavi emblem perfectly. The fit is exact. Can't wait to see it in the car...

Radio mounted...

Mark did an awsome job. I'm debating if I want to keep the white illumination above the radio or if I should block it out.

It would help in changing CD's. Guess I'll see how bright it is at night.

Opinions?

Thanks.

For those of you that have asked about the vinyl wrap, I finally got a chance to try it last night. One thing that I discovered was that the base color of the item your wrapping needs to be white or a bright color before you do the wrap or it really darkens the red. So I did a little practicing with what I had cut out to see how it would conform. As long as your easy with the heat it will conform to any shape. I had to spray the pieces that I'm going wrapping with a light grey paint and it will take it a week to cure totally so I'll attempt the wrap again next weekend.

Well heres an update to anyone that was following this thread. Car is about done the way I want it. I had to install hijacker air shocks in the back because of the stereo equipment - LOL.

Replaced the Sony head unit with a JVC Arsenal KD-A95BT head unit. Its friggen sweet. Recommend it to anyone looking for a full featured receiver for a decent price. Car also got a 7 inch Galaxy TAB for the JVC control apps and Pandora streaming. 64GB of usb thumb drive storge holds the music collection...

I was told that you cannot get good back masaging bass out of a convertable...not true LOL. I dynomated the trunk area and took care of all of the rattles except for one under the car. I think its the baffels in the muffler LMAO...

The Hiphonics Zeus 5 channel runs the polk momo 6x9 components in the rear, 4 inch polk components in the dash and the built in 1000W monoblock drives 2 RF T1 10" subs in the trunk. This combinations sounds fantastic. 20 Farad digital stiffening cap adds a little extra juice when needed.

15% tint was a must as this car did not have UV glass! Talk about hot in the sun with the top up. Now the A/C keeps it nice and cool inside when the temps outside get unbearable and the top goes up...

Last things left are to install a 2 guage pod on the driver piller that will hold an autometer air/fuel mixure guage and a airlift air shock pressure guage and controller. Also need to install the on board compressor. That will finish her up for this year.

I forsee a maroon canvas top on it in the future....

On to the pics.

Good stuff Chester! Those T1's look right at home in that car.

I had a similar setup in my 86 Cimarron:

https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum6/HTML/083429.html

But we gave that car to my aunt and I had to pull all my work out of it. Now my subs and amp just sit, waiting for a new vehicle to call home.

Sharp car.

Why not integrate the radar detector into the car while you were doing all that work?

I'm not into the stereo thing, but other than that it's a car I'd love driving.

Thanks,

The detector is a Valentine One that I picked up at an Atlanta pawn shop for $100 so I use it in all my vehicles.

Tunes have always been a requirement on my to do list. And yeah, they call me boomer at work... LOL

I've always had obnoxious systems in all my cars. I love bass, always have..

The car does turn a lot of heads. You just don't see them anymore...

Looks really nice except for the altitude. You can get your entire music collection on a 64gb drive? I have (2) 32gb microSD cards (with a USB adapter) that I keep on my bike. That's just day trip bike music. I have a 1TB hdd filled (890+gb) with music.

Altitude as in needs to be lowered? Yeah I agree. Its going to get a 2" drop in the near future. I had to put air shocks in the back to lift it as the weight of the audio equipment was causing the rear tires to rub on hard turns and bumps. LOL Going to get some lower but stiffer springs for the back and some lowering springs for the front as well.

And as far as putting my ENTIRE music collection on that 64GB drive its probably an exageration on my part. I should have said "What I listen too" LOL. You use 2 32GB cards for a day trip? What are you encoding your music with? I have over 8000 songs on this 64GB thumbdrive and still have 10GB of space left to go. It just takes the radio about a minute to start playing cause it has to read through the whole drive. Theres no way I could listen to all the songs on this thumb drive in a week much less a day trip... Thats over 22 days worth of music playing 24 hours a day, 7 days a week...LOL

It looks good but will definitely look better a bit lower. Almost everything I have is lossless (FLAC). I love all kinds of music so I have lots of everything. I also have pretty much everything ever recorded in the '70s, '80s and most of the '90s. Country, classical, piano, jazz, you name it, I've probably got it. I have a lot of FLAC (lossless) although some of the stuff is 320 and 192kb/s. I listen to a lot of music.

Took the car on a trip to Atlanta for training and low and behold, it failed on me!

We broke down on the side of 75 south. Called a tow truck and was told 75 minutes. I was determined to get off the highway as we were on a shoulder close to the road and of course truckers dont see the need to get over...

Car would not stay running, would spit and sputter and as soon as you tapped the gas it would die. So I put it in neutal, started it and slammed into drive and got her rolling about 5 miles an hour. Mind you were 200 miles into the trip with all three dogs and a loaded car. So we roll about 1/4 mile like this where out of the blue that car picks up and runs like nothing ever happened. Hmmm... So my first guess is the in tank fuel pump starting to go. I was low on gas and figured maybe it was starting to warm up and cut out...So I stop on an exit and fill up. Car gets me the rest of the way to Atlanta with a few spits and sputters along the way...

So, lets see if we can figure out what is wrong. What do you think is the problem?

Guess not.

Well, for those who may have some interest it ended up being a fuel injector. SFI sucks. One goes bad, the computer shuts them all off. Car would start then die after 4 seconds. Did this working on it from 10-6 in the walmart parking lot, got it towed to pep boys and had them tell me they coudn't get to it till Monday. Bought a multi meter and ohmed the injector harness...Hmmm, back bank was 1.5ohms lower then the front. Bought the part at auto zone cause pep boys didn't have it. Changed it in the parking lot and wola... She even gave me a kiss to show the love. I have a heart shaped 2nd degree burn on my hand from the exhaust. LOL

Still love the car. LOL

See ya...

Lowering springs came in. Though it dropped it lower than I was expecting. Think part of it is because the struts are shot. I put it all together and low and behold, one of the strut mounts broke. Damn rust...LOL

Car got:

ball joints
wheel hubs
springs
brake pads
caliper hardware
tranny filter
cv axles

A set of KYB GR2 struts along with new strut mounts and coil spring insulators are on the way. Will be here tuesday.

The NOW look... LOL
